초등학생의 학업스트레스와 사회부과적 완벽주의가 학업소진에 미치는 영향: 대처반응의 매개효과를 중심으로 (The Effects of Academic Stress and Socially Prescribed perfectionism on Academic Burnout among Elementary Students : Mediating Effects of Coping Responses)

초록

이 연구는 학업스트레스, 사회부과적 완벽주의와 학업소진의 관계에서 대처반응의 매개효과를 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 경남과 부산 지역에 거주하는 초등학교 5~6학년 학생509명을 대상으로 자료를 수집하여 각 변인 간의 상관을 알아보고 구조방정식을 적용하여 매개모형을 검증하였다. 수집한 자료는 SPSS 21.0과 AMOS 20.0 프로그램을 사용하여 분석하였고그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학업스트레스, 사회부과적 완벽주의, 회피적 대처반응, 학업소진간에는 유의미한 정적 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 접근적 대처반응은 사회부과적 완벽주의와는 정적 상관, 학업소진과는 부적 상관이 있었으나 학업스트레스와의 상관은 유의미하지 않는것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 학업스트레스, 사회부과적 완벽주의와 학업소진의 관계에서 대처반응의매개효과를 검증한 결과 접근적 대처반응과 회피적 대처반응은 모두 매개효과를 가지는 것으로나타났다. 마지막으로 이 연구의 의미와 제한점에 대해 논의하였다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediating effect of coping responses in the relationship of academic stress and socially prescribed perfectionism with academic burnout. For this purpose, data were collected from a total of 509 5th or 6th grade elementary school students residing in Busan or Gyeongsangnam-do area. The correlations between variables were examined and the mediation model was verified using a structural equation. The data collected were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 20.0 programs. Analysis results were as follows. First, significant positive correlation was found in the relationships between variables such as academic stress, socially prescribed perfectionism, avoidance coping, and academic burnout. While approach coping response showed a positive correlation with socially prescribed perfectionism and a negative correlation with academic burnout, it did not show a significant correlation with academic stress. Second, examining the mediating effect of coping responses in the relationship of academic stress and socially prescribed perfectionism with academic burnout, it was found that both approach and avoidance coping responses serve as mediators. This study is meaningful in that the structural correlation among academic stress, socially prescribed perfectionism, coping responses, and academic burnout was determined by confirming the mediating function of coping responses in the pathway of academic stress and socially prescribed perfectionism leading to academic burnout among elementary school children. This study, however, is limited in that it relied entirely on children’s self-reports and that collection of data was confined to cross-sectional method. Lastly, it is necessary to develop and introduce early intervention programs for reducing various conflicts and problems that might arise from academic burnout, along with counseling programs that will reduce avoidance coping response and instead promote approach coping response.
