초록

This article is written to display the method of characterization utilizing the character of Lear (Lear in Reverse) as a model, aiming general at the creation method of characterization in plays. I searched the practical concept of characterization through my own personal experiences. I was a 30-year-old man, who had to act almost a 60-year-old 'Lear', that gave me some difficulties. I started this article with my exercises, which I devised to overcome the problems of age difference within the character at that point.
First, I observed men in their 60s, which I could combine for the physical features acceptable as a father figure. I tried to approach the character with the concept that characterization means proper physical expressions and movements.
In my judgement, Maximization of the typical personality which is inherent as one part of mine own. So, I focussed on transforming my inherent personality to Lear's main features, and harmonizing it with the rest of the elements and details of the character. Repeated hard training forced willingly by myself was followed to obtain my goal.
Actors are to create, analyse and search their roles through their own specific creative ways. That is true. But unfortunately, in Korea, the actors' creative methods have not been fully introduced enough. And that has caused the lack of discuss on this approach of character work. This article is meaningful at this point, so that it can be a path for the next wave of new actors and the further study on stage acting.
