초록

이 논문은 혈(穴)의 기원을 통해 혈의 본원적 의미를 파악하고 제고(提高)함을 목표로 한다. 혈은 어원을 통해 분석해가면 주거 양식인 ‘동굴형 집’이다. 이를 근거로 혈의 기원처를 추적하면 황하 문명의 중심지 황투고원(黃土高原, Loess Plateau)에 귀착한다. 기원상(起源上) 혈이 갖는 의미는 첫째, 혈은 중국인의 주거 양식에서 비롯되었다. 이는 풍수의 시발점이 된다. 둘째, 혈은 인간의 독특한 자연 적응 생존 본능의 산물이다. 이 의미는 이후 동아시아의 독특한 풍수 사상으로 발전해간다. 셋째, 혈과 함께 문화가 시작된다. 거주는 인간 삶을 구성하는 물리적이고 객관적인 환경과 주관적이고 사회 심리적인 환경의 영향을 받는다. 이에 혈은 고대 중국문화와 사상의 핵심 장소가 된다. 넷째, 혈은 세계(우주:시공)의 중심이 된다. 인간이 머무는 혈을 중심으로 세상을 인식하는 세계관을 갖게 된다. 다섯째, 혈은 이동하는 인간을 멈추게 하였다. 혈은 농사와 목축을 통해 인간이 정주하여 집단생활을 가능하게 하였다.
혈의 기원상 의미는 자연스럽게 풍수 사상과 연결된다. 풍수는 ‘인간이 머물기에 최선의 장소’인 혈의 본원적 의미를 본질로 계승하여 ‘혈’을 핵심으로 한다. 따라서 풍수는 혈과 함께 시작된 셈이다. 풍수 사상이 황투고원의 혈에서 기원하였다는 근거를 살펴보면 첫째, 풍수의 대표적인 자연 지리적 입지 원리인 배산임수는 황투고원 혈의 입지에서 기원하였다. 혈이 소재하는 산을 풍수의 혈이 기대는 주산(主山)으로, 혈 앞에 펼쳐진 들판[水]을 풍수의 명당으로 보았다는 것이다. 둘째, 오행(五行)에서 토(土)가 중앙에 자리한 것은 혈을 세계의 중심으로 하는 사상에 기인한다. 혈은 세계의 중심이며(穴=中), 혈은 황토(土)로 이루어져(穴=土), 곧 토(土)는 중(中)이 되는 공식이 성립된다(土=中). 또 오행의 중앙을 상징하는 색을 황(黃)으로 한 것도 혈의 기원처인 황투고원의 ‘황’에 연유한 것이다. 그리고 풍수에서 원용(援用)하는 토형산(土形山)의 모습도 황투고원의 산형과 일치한다. 사신사(四神砂)도 방위도 혈을 기준으로 한다. 셋째, 무덤의 횡혈식(橫穴式)과 수혈식(竪穴式)은 황투고원의 혈의 형태인 고애식(靠崖式)과 하침식(下沈式)에서 유래되었다. 또 토장(土葬)의 풍속도 거주 양식인 황투고원의 혈에서 유래되었으며, 광중(壙中) 토질인 혈토(穴土)도 황투고원의 토질을 전형으로 한다. 이밖에도 혈을 핵심으로 하며, 혈을 에워싸고 있는 산천을 황투고원의 특징인 사(砂:황토 모레)로 표현하는 등 황투고원의 혈과 풍수는 본질적 상관성을 가지고 있다.
혈의 기원에서 갖는 또 하나의 의미는 중(中)이다. 중국인은 혈에 거주하면서 세계를 의식하고 구조화한다. 혈은 그 세계의 중심 장소가 되면서 독특한 가치를 갖는다. 혈은 중국인에게 세계의 중심 장소로서 가치를 지니고 사상으로 의미화된다. 바로 중 사상이다. 이러한 중 사상은 앞에서 살펴본 오행의 중 관념과 함께 중국의 핵심 사상으로 발전해간다. 중국(中國)의 중(中)의 의미도 혈에서 기원한 중 사상에 그 근원을 두고 있음을 알 수 있다.

This study aims to understand and enhance the intrinsic meaning of hyeol(穴) through the origin of hyeol. Hyeol is a "cave-shaped house," a residential style, analyzed through etymology. Based on this, if you trace the origin of hyeol, you will arrive at the loess plateau, the center of the Yellow River civilization. Originally, The meaning of hyeol in origin, first, hyeol originated from the Chinese residential style. This is the starting point of fengshui. Second, hyeol is the product of human's unique natural adaptation survival instinct. This meaning later develops into a unique fengshui idea in East Asia. Third, the culture of settlement begins with hyeol. Residence is influenced by the physical and objective environment and the subjective and psychological environment that make up human life. As a result, hyeol becomes a key place in ancient Chinese culture. Fourth, the hyeol becomes the center of the world (universe: time and space). It has a worldview that recognizes the world around the hyeol that humans stay in. Fifth, hyeol stopped moving humans. The hyeol made it possible for humans to settle down and lead a collective life through farming and herding.
The meaning of the origin of hyeol is naturally connected with the idea of ​​fengshui. Fengshui essentially inherits the original meaning of hyeol, which is 'the best place for humans to stay', and uses 'hyeol' as its core. Therefore, fengshui started with hyeol. Looking at the evidence that the idea of ​​fengshui originated from the hyeol of the loess plateau, First, Baesan Imsu(背山 臨水), a representative natural geographical location principle of fengshui, originated from the location of the hyeol in the loess plateau. The Jung sasang(中 思想) develops into the core idea of ​​China along with the central concept(中 觀念) of the five elements discussed above. The meaning of the Chinese character(中 字) in China(中國) is also rooted in the Jung sasang(中 思想) originating from hyeol.

The Chinese are born at hyeol, live around the hyeol, and die at hyeol. Hyeol is the eternal hometown that transcends life and death for the Chinese, and it is the center of the Five Elements, the center of position, and the center of the world. China's economy, politics, and culture begin from the hyeol, and major ideas originate. The intrinsic meaning of hyeol is very special and meaningful.
