다문화 이주여성의 배움경험으로서 改造에 관한 내러티브 탐구 (A Narrative Inquiry on the Reformatting as Erudition Experience of Multicultural Immigrant Women)

초록

본 연구는 다양한 이유로 이주하여 타(他)문화에 적응하며 삶을 사는 이주여성들을 대상으로 그들의 배움 경험을 탐구함으로써 이전과 환경이 다른 삶에서의 적응을 위한 배움의 본성, 배움 경험의 의미와 본질, 그리고 배움을 통한 각자 삶의 변화와 쓰임새에 대해 탐색하려는데 그 목적이 있다. 질적 탐구 중 내러티브 연구방법을 택했으며, 소수의 사람이 양질의 정보를 제시해야 하므로 비슷한 경험을 하고, 자신의 경험을 드러내 이야기할 수 있는 대상들로 의도적 표집을 했다. 먼저 참여자들이 이주민으로 살아가면서 적응하기 위해 어떠한 배움 경험을 했는지를 기술하고, 그 경험을 통해 어떻게 자신을 재구성하며 다시 살았는지 분석하여, 이주여성들에게 배움 경험과 개조의 의미를 해석하고자 했다. 이 탐구는 참여자들이 살아온 길을 연구자와 함께 되짚어 살아내며, 앞으로도 살아갈 날들에 관한 이야기다. 연구에 드러난 참여자들의 ‘살기’와 ‘다시 살기’를 종합하여 다음과 같이 결론을 내리고자 한다. 첫째, 이주여성들이 이주의 과정에서 대면하는 역경은 좌절이 아닌 인생이란 노정(路程)에서 또 다른 길을 가보는 전환이 됐다. 둘째, 이주여성들에게 ‘한국어 배우기’는 자신의 정체성을 표현하고, 욕구를 실현하며, 생존을 위한 과정이다. 셋째, 이주여성들이 배우는 과정에서 얻은 것은 함께한 동행들과 나누는 의식 소통을 통한 사회적 지지와 자아실현이다. 넷째, 이주여성들은 스스로 배움을 계획하고 실행해 보며 성취감을 느끼고 미래의 쓰임새를 찾게 됐다. 다섯째, 이주여성들의 배움은 개인적 만족감으로만 끝나는 것이 아니라 개인과 사회가 서로 연결망을 이루어 사회자본이 된다. 이 연구는 한국 사회의 이주여성을 이주민으로 보기보다는 함께 살아가는 공동체의 일원으로 인식하고, 서로의 약함을 보듬으며 배움의 여정을 같이 걸어가는 동행으로 전환하는 계기가 되는 데, 그 의의가 있다.

영어초록

This inquiry was conducted on immigrant women who have immigrated for various reasons and lived their lives adapting to different cultures. The purpose of this inquiry is to explore the nature of erudition in order to adapt to a new life, the meaning and essence of erudition experience itself, and the changes and uses of an individual’s life through learning by exploring their erudition experiences. Narrative inquiry was chosen as the primary research method. We used purposive sampling to pick a few individuals who have similar experiences and can talk about their lives in depth and to present high-quality information. First, we had the participants describe what kinds of erudition experiences they had in order to adapt and live as immigrants. Then, we analyzed how they lived their lives by reformatting themselves through those experiences. Lastly, we tried to analyze what erudition experience and reformatting means to immigrant women. This inquiry is about retracing the participants’ lives with the researcher and preparing for the future. The inquiry’s conclusion based on the “living” and “living again” of the participants is as follows. Firstly, difficulties these immigrant women faced during their immigration processes turned out to be a turning point for them to reflect on their lives and change their life values. Secondly, to these immigrant women, “Learning Korean” is a way to express who they are, actualize their desires, and survive. Thirdly, these immigrant women gained social support and self-realization through communication with their companions. Fourthly, these immigrant women felt a sense of achievement and found their future uses in the society by planning and implementing their erudition. Fifthly, immigrant women’s erudition doesn’t simply stop at personal satisfaction. Rather, it forms a network with each other and becomes a social overhead capital eventually. The inquiry recognizes immigrant women in Korean society as members of the community that live together rather than just immigrants. It is meaningful to view immigrant women as companions who walk together on the journey of erudition and to take care of each other’s weaknesses.
