미디어 노출, 미디어 신체이상 내면화 및 신체 불만족의 관계: 한·중 여대생 비교연구 (The Relationship Between Media Exposure, Internalization of Media Body Ideal and Body Dissatisfaction: A Comparative Study of Female College Students in Korea and China)

본 연구의 목적은 한국과 중국 여대생을 대상으로 미디어 노출, 신체이상 내면화(마른체형, 운동선수체형) 및 신체 불만족 간의 관계를 비교 분석하고자 하였다. 구체적으로 미디어 노출과 신체 불만족의 관계가 마른체형이상 내면화와 운동선수체형 내면화에 의해서유의하게 매개될 수 있는지 여부를 분석하고자 하였다. 연구의 대상자는 한국 여자대학생 275명과 중국 여자대학생 1549명을 유목적표집법을 이용하여 선정하였다. 미디어 노출, 신체이상 내면화 및 신체 불만족 척도에 대한 매개효과를 분석한 결과, 한국여대생의경우 인쇄매체와 방송매체는 모두 신체 불만족에 유의한 직접적인 영향을 미치지 못하였다. 마른체형 이상 내면화는 인쇄매체 노출과신체불만족 간의 관계를 완전매개하였다. 그러나 인쇄매체 노출은 운동선수체형 내면화에 유의한 영향을 미치지 못하였고 인쇄매체노출과 신체 불만족 간의 관계를 유의하게 매개하지 못하였다. 중국 여대생의 경우에는 인쇄매체와 신체 불만족, 방송매체와 신체 불만족의 관계가 마른체형 이상 내면화에 의해서 완전매개되었다. 또한 운동선수체형 내면화는 인쇄매체와 신체 불만족의 관계, 방송매체와 신체 불만족의 관계를 부분매개하였다. 특히, 중국 여대생들의 인쇄 및 방송매체 노출과 신체 불만족의 관계는 운동선수체형 내면화에 의해서 부분매개되었으나, 한국여대생의 인쇄매체 노출과 신체 불만족의 관계는 운동선수체형 내면화에 의해서 유의하게 매개되지 않았다. 이것은 두 나라 간의 문화적 차이를 반영한 결과로 해석하였다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the relationship between media exposure, internalization of media body ideal, and body dissatisfaction targeting Korean and Chinese female college students. Specifically, this study aimed to analyze whether the relationship between media exposure and body dissatisfaction could be significantly mediated by internalization of thin body shape and athletic body shape. The subjects of this study were 275 Korean female university students and 1549 Chinese female university students using the purposive sampling method. As a result of analyzing data on media exposure, internalization of media body ideal, and body dissatisfaction, both print media and broadcast media did not have a significant direct effect on body dissatisfaction in the case of Korean female college students.
Internalization of the thin body ideal completely mediates the relationship between exposure to print media and body dissatisfaction. However, exposure to print media did not have a significant effect on the internalization of athlete body shape and did not mediate the relationship between exposure to print media and body dissatisfaction. In the case of Chinese female college students, the relationship between print media and body dissatisfaction and between broadcast media and body dissatisfaction was completely mediated by the internalization of the thin body ideal. In addition, the internalization of athlete body shape partially mediates the relationship between print media and body dissatisfaction, and between broadcast media and body dissatisfaction. In particular, the relationship between exposure to print media and broadcast media and body dissatisfaction of Chinese female college students was partially mediated by internalization of athlete body shape, but in the case of Korean female university students, the mediating effect was not significant. This was interpreted as a result reflecting the cultural differences between the two countries.
