중국 좡족의 전통 혼례습속 연구 (Study of the Traditional Marriage Customs of the Chinese Zhuang People)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 중국의 소수민족 가운데 그 규모가 가장 큰 좡족(壯族)의 전통 혼례습속에 대하여 고찰하는 것이다. 혼인습속은 한 민족의 예속 가운데 빼놓을 수 없는 중요한 부분이기 때문에, 좡족의 혼례습속에 대한 연구는 결국 좡족 민속 문화의 근원과 변화를 이해하고자 하는 목적의 일환이다.
본문에서는 좡족의 혼례습속을 좡족의 전통 혼례 형식과 그 특징, 좡족의 전통 통혼범위 및 배우자 선택 방식, 그리고 좡족의 전통 혼례절차로 나누어 서술하였다.
좡족의 전통 혼례 형식에는 빙취혼(聘娶婚), 입췌혼(入贅婚), 권반혼(卷伴婚), 명혼(冥婚)이 있다. 이 4개의 혼례형식은 외형적으로는 다른 민족들이 행하는 형식과 비슷하다. 그러나 좀 더 들여다보면 모계사회적 성격이 대단히 강하며, 그 습속이 중화인민공화국 건립 후 까지도 유지되었다는 점이 주목되는 핵심이다. 좡족의 통혼 범위에서 가장 중요한 금기사항은 근친혼의 금지이고, 다음으로는 민족내혼이 원칙이며 민족외혼은 금지한다는 것이다. 역사적으로 좡족 청년남녀의 배우자 선택 방식은 부모가 정해 주는 ‘포판택우(包辦擇偶)’와 청년남녀가 스스로 자신의 배우자를 택하는 ‘자주택우(自主擇偶)’가 있는데, 점점 자주택우가 많아지고 있다.
이상과 같은 좡족의 전통 혼례습속의 형성에 미친 환경적 배경으로는, 첫째 생활환경과 역사전통의 영향, 둘째 원시종교와 도교의 영향, 셋째 중국 한문화의 영향을 들 수 있다. 특히 근친혼의 폐해를 경험적으로 인식하고 그것을 금지시켰던 것은, 비교적 후진적인 사회였던 좡족에게 있어서는 선진적인 자각이었다고 본다. 또한 데릴사위에게도 재산상속권을 주고, 신뢰를 얻고 능력이 인정되면 촌장으로 추대되기도 하여 그 씨족의 남자들과 동등한 대우를 받게 한 것은 대단히 담대하고 인간적인 면모인 것 같다.

영어초록

The aim of this study is to consider the marriage customs of the Chinese Zhuang People, which is the largest in size among ethnic minorities in China. Since marriage customs are an important part of a people's subjugation, the study of the Zhuang's marriage customs could eventually provide much help in understanding the continuation and change of the Zhuang’s ethnic folk culture.
This paper described the marriage customs of the Zhuang People dividing it into the traditional marriage forms and their characteristics, the range of the traditional marriage and the method of choosing spouses, and the traditional marriage procedures, etc.
The Zhuang’s traditional wedding forms include Betrothal Marriage(聘娶婚), Uxorilocal Marriage(入贅婚), Company Marriage(卷伴婚), and the Ghost Marriage(冥婚). On the surface, these four wedding ceremonies are little different from those that are commonly practiced by other ethnic minorities. However, if you take a deep look at the Zhuang’s marriage customs, the most notable feature of the practice is that the maternal clan social and female-centered convention is very strong and it was maintained until after the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
The most important principle in the scope of the Zhuang’s marriage is the prohibition of incest, and the next is the compliance of intermarriage of the people, and the prohibition of foreign marriage of the people. Historically, there are two ways of young men and women choosing their spouses; one, so called Arranged Mate Selection is to follow their parents’ decision, and the other, Autonomous Mate Selection is that young men and women choose their own spouses by themselves and the Autonomous Mate Selection is getting more and more.
The environmental backgrounds on the formation of such Zhuang’s traditional marriage customs of as the above include first, the influence of living environment and historical tradition, second, religion - the influence of primitive religion and Taoism, and third, the influence of Chinese Han culture. In particular, the fact that they had recognized and banned the evils of incest at a time when genetics did not develop was a very advanced awareness for the Zhuang, who lived relatively backward lives due to the strong trend of the maternal clan society. It also seems highly bold and humane of them to give the son-in-law the right to inherit property, and appoint him as a chief if he is trusted and his ability is acknowledged, and treat him on par with the men of the tribe.
