1910년대 사형 순국한 의병 연구 -『조선총독부관보』 ‘사형집행’조를 중심으로- (A study on the anti-Japanese loyal soldiers who executed in the 1910s)

초록

이 글은 조선총독부관보 (1910~1917년)의 ‘사형집행’ 기사를 정리하여1910년대 항일의병에 대한 새로운 자료를 발굴, 제시한 것이다. 우선 이시기 의병관련 사형수를 약 225명으로 파악하였다. 이들의 사형집행 장소는대구감옥 114명(51%), 평양감옥 66명(29%), 경성감옥(서대문감옥) 45명(20%) 등의 순으로 나타났다. 이 시기 대구감옥에서 의병 사형수가 가장많았던 것은 1908년 이후 의병활동의 중심지가 전라도를 중심으로 한 삼남지방으로 이전하여, 이 지역의 의병이 전국적으로 가장 왕성했기 때문이다.
또한 이들의 출신 지역은 경상 53명, 전라 52명, 황해 29명, 평안 28명, 강원 19명 등의 순으로 나타났다. 의병 항쟁의 중심지와 이에 대한 일제의진압 작전 지역이 출신 지역과 거의 일치함을 알 수 있다.
의병관련 사형수 약 225명을 관련 자료와 공훈전자사료관의 <독립유공자공적조서> 등을 비교, 대조하여 3그룹으로 분류하였다. 즉 1) 정부로부터독립유공자로 포상되어 공인된 의병을 A그룹(51명), 2) 비독립유공자이지만확실한 자료가 있는 의병을 B그룹(34명), 3) 비독립유공자로 조선총독부관보 에만 있는 의병을 C그룹(140명)으로 구분하였다. 특히 B그룹의 경우는, 의병으로 판단한 관련 자료를 제시하여, 이들이 의병이었음을 입증하고자하였다. 이 가운데 평남 일대에서 활동했던 의병장 박운혁과 경남 일대를중심으로 전국적으로 활동했던 의병장 안범성을 찾아낸 것은 큰 수확이라고생각한다.
B그룹과 C그룹의 의병은 지금까지 제시된 바 없는 것으로, 추가 자료발굴과 검증 단계를 거친다면 기존의 의병 판결문 연구가 가졌던 수량적공간적 한계를 극복할 수 있을 것이다. 향후 이 시기의 의병사 연구에 주요자료로 활용되기를 기대한다.

영어초록

This thesis is to discover and present new data on the anti-Japanese loyal soldiers in the 1910s by organizing the execution articles of the Chosen Governor's Office Bulletin(1910~1917).
First, the number of loyal soldiers-related death sentences at that time is estimated to be about 225. The places where they were executed were 114(51%) in Daegu Prison, 66(29%) in Pyongyang Prison, and 45(20%) in Gyeongseong Prison(Seodaemun Prison).
The reason why the number of loyal soldiers death-row convict was the highest in Daegu prison was that the center of loyal soldiers since 1908 was in the Samnam[三南] region, including Jeolla-do, and the jurisdictional reexamination court was located in Daegu.
The areas of origin of loyal soldiers sentenced to death were 53 in Gyeongsang, 52 in Jeolla, 29 in the Hwanghae, 28 in Pyeongan, and 19 in Gangwon. It can be seen that the center of the loyal soldiers conflict and the area of the Japanese Empire's suppression operation are almost the same as the birthplace of the loyal soldiers.
The 225 loyal soldiers sentenced to deaths can be classified into three groups as follows by comparing and contrasting related data with the official records of independent meritors. Group A is loyal soldiers who has been praised by the government as an independent meritorious person, Group B is loyal soldiers who is not an independent meritorious person but has reliable activity materials, and Group C is not an independent meritorious person but is related to the Chosen Governor's Office Bulletin. In particular, in the case of group B, we tried to prove that they were loyal soldiers by presenting relevant data that were judged to be loyal soldiers.
Through this study, it was a great achievement to newly discover leader Park Woon-hyuk who was active in the Pyeongnam area, and leader Ahn Bum-seong who was active in the Gyeongnam area.
Group B and Group C loyal soldiers have not been studied so far, so a little more examination could overcome the quantitative and spatial problems that were the limits of existing loyal soldiers trial studies. In the future, it is expected that this paper will be used as a main data for loyal soldiers research at that time.
