초록

淸末은 유사 이래의 일대 변혁기였다. 전쟁은 청말 내내 역사의 전면에서 거대한 변혁을 추진하는 원동력이었다. 청말에 대변혁을 이끌던 전쟁은 결코 자기 자신의 개념변화에도 게으르지 않았다. 전쟁개념은 급변하고 다변하는 사회 전반에서 막 생성된 의미 맥락과 경험 연관을 축적하여 다양한 신조어를 창출하였다. 당시 대거 출현한 신조어는 전쟁의 무리 개념을 형성하였다. 당대인은 신조어로 이루어진 전쟁 槪念群의 의미망에다 눈앞의 현실을 개혁하고 역사의 변화를 가져올 시대의 목소리를 담아냈다. 청말에 전쟁개념의 정치·사회화가 새롭게 진행된 것이다. 사회주도계층은 새로 등장한 전쟁의 무리 개념을 실천하여 국가적 위기 국면을 통찰하고 나아가 그 해결책도 모색하였다. 전쟁개념의 혁명적인 변화가 일어난 청말은 중국의 ‘말안장시대’라고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

The late Qing China was a period of great transformation since the beginning of the history. War, which led a revolution at the end of the Qing Dynasty, served as a constant impetus propelling for profound change. The wars that led transformative changes in late Qing China also had brought changes in its own concept.
The concept of war underwent rapid transformation, generating a plethora of neologisms by accumulating meaning, context, and experiential associations newly created across the diverse societal aspects. The emergence of numerous neologisms during that period contributed to the formation of the collective concept of war. Individuals of that era encapsulated the voices of the times, reforming the immediate reality and urging historical changes within the semantic network of the conceptual cluster of war.
During the late Qing Dynasty, there was a novel progression in the politicization and socialization of the concept of war. The socio-dominant strata of the late Qing era actively engaged with the newly emerged collective concept of war, discerning national crises and, furthermore, exploring potential solutions by putting the conceptual framework into practice.
This paper put its significance on employing the methodology of conceptual history research and general linguistic theories to comprehend the dynamics of conceptual revolution and changes in the concept of war in late Qing China. First of all, it examined the deepening consciousness of crisis and the conceptual revolution during the period of excessive transition. Next, a comprehensive introduction to the newly emerged neologisms related to war was provided, followed by an analysis of the characteristics within the field of meaning. Finally, it discussed the trend of the politicization and socialization of the concept of war. This paper would contribute to unveil the unfamiliar aspects of the conceptualization of war in late Qing China.
