법화·천태사상에서 바라본 불교문화재 인식과 활용 (A Study on Recognition and Utilization of Buddhist Cultural Assets from the View of Dharma-Flower and Tiantai Thoughts)

초록

이 글에서는 법화사상과 천태사상의 내용을 불교문화재의 인식과 활용에 적용해본다. Ⅱ장에서는 법화와 천태사상 가운데 불교문화재의 인식에 적용할 수 있는 내용에 대해 알아본다. 첫째, 『법화경』의 「약초유품」의 비유이다. 이 비유는 중생이 근기에 따라 일승의 가르침을 다르게 수용하고 있음을 말하는 것이다. 그런데 이 내용을 불교문화재의 인식에 적용할 수 있다. 여러 근기의 사람이 주변의 불교문화재를 보고 반응하는 태도도 각기 다르다는 것이다. 둘째, 「상불경보살품」의 내용이다. 여기서는 상불경보살이 모든 사람이 미래에 부처가 될 가능성이 있는 존재이므로 예배드린다고 한다. 이 내용도 불교문화재의 인식에 적용하면, 주변의 사물도 미래에 불교문화재가 될 가능성이 있으므로 어느 것 하나도 소홀하게 대하지 않는다는 입장이 된다. 셋째, 천태의 일념삼천설이다. 이는 사람의 한 마음은 무한한 가능성이 간직하고 있다는 말이다. 이것을 불교문화재의 인식에 적용하면, 주변의 사물도 미래에는 불교문화재로 인정받을 가능성이 있다는 입장이 될 것이다. 넷째, 천태의 일심삼관이다. 이는 공, 가유(假有), 중도(中道)를 말하는 것이다. 이것을 불교문화재 인식에 적용하면, 불교문화재를 균형잡힌 시각, 곧 중도의 맥락으로 보아야한다는 입장이 된다. Ⅲ장에서는 법화사상과 천태사상 가운데 불교문화재의 활용에 적용할 수 있는 내용에 대해 살펴본다. 첫째, 「법사품」의 내용이다. 여기서는 법사는 『법화경』을 널리 전하기 위해서 인욕의 마음을 포함한 4가지가 필요하다고 한다. 이것을 불교문화재의 활용에 적용하면, 불교문화재를 널리 알리고 전파하기 위해서는 주위의 무관심을 이겨낼 수 있는 인욕의 마음 등이 필요하다는 것이 된다. 둘째, 십경십승관법은 천태종의 구체적 수행방법이다. 십경은 지관의 대상이 되는 10가지 경계를 말하는 것이고, 십승관법은 지관 수행을 하는 10가지 방법을 말하는 것이다. 십경을 불교문화재의 활용에 적용하면, 불교문화재를 활용하고자 할 때 생길 수 있는 여러 가지 문제점을 미리 파악하고 준비하는 것이 될 것이다. 그리고 십승관법을 불교문화재의 활용에 적용하면, 수행을 하듯이 엄밀한 태도로 불교문화재를 활용해야 한다는 것이 된다.

영어초록

In this article, I will apply it to the recognition and utilization of buddhist cultural properties based on Dharma-flower and Tiantai thoughts. Chapter Ⅱ examines the contents applicable to the recognition of buddhist cultural assets among Dharma-flower and Tiantai thoughts. First, it is the metaphor of medicinal herbs in lotus sutra. This parable is to say that sentient beings accept the teachings of the single buddha-vehicle differently according to their religious capacity. And this can be applied to the recognition of buddhist cultural assets. It is said that people of various religious capacity have different attitudes to seeing and reacting to buddhist cultural assets around them. Second, it is the contents of never despising bodhisattva chapter. Here, it is said that never despising bodhisattva worships everyone because everyone has the potential to become a Buddha in the future. If this content is also applied to the recognition of buddhist cultural assets, it is a position that the surrounding objects are likely to become buddhist cultural assets in the future, so we do not neglect any of us. Third, it is three thousand thoughts in single thought(一念三千說). This means that the human heart holds infinite possibilities. If this is applied to the recognition of buddhist cultural assets, the position will be that there is a possibility that surrounding objects will also be recognized as buddhist cultural assets in the future. Fourth, it is three insight in one thought(一心三觀). This refers to emptiness, nominal existence(假有), and middle way. If this is applied to the recognition of buddhist cultural assets, it is a position to look buddhist cultural assets from a balanced point of view, that is, in the context of middle way. ChapterⅢ examines the contents applicable to the use of buddhist cultural assets among Dharma-flower and Tiantai thoughts. First, it is the contents of teacher of the dharma chapter. Here, it is said that in order to spread lotus sutra widely, the buddhist monk needs four things, including the spirit of patience. If this is applied to the utilization of buddhist cultural assets, it is necessary to have a spirit of patience that can overcome the indifference of those around us in order to widely publicize and disseminate buddhist cultural assets. Second, ten objects-ten vehicle meditation(十境十乘觀法) is a specific method of practice in Tiantai zong. Ten objects are the object of śamatha and vipaśyanā, and ten vehicle meditation refers to the ten methods of practicing śamatha and vipaśyanā. If ten objects is applied to the use of buddhist cultural assets, it will be to identify and prepare in advance various problems that may arise when trying to utilize buddhist cultural assets. And if ten vehicle meditation is applied to the use of buddhist cultural assets, it means that buddhist cultural assets must be used in the strict manner as if they were practicing.
