초록

This study attempted to test the possibility of Dendropanax morbiferus leaf extract as a cosmetic ingredient.
The extracted was combined with ethanol and amount of polyphenol, flavonoid, DPPH radical scavenging activity, nitric oxide(NO) scavenging activity, superoxide dismutase(SOD)-like activity, cytotoxicity, and antimicrobial activity were measured, and the results found the followings: The total polyphenol and flavonoid contents were 48.77±1.52 mg/g and 31.86±1.44 mg/g respectively. The DPPH radical scavenging activity increased as the Dendropanax morbiferus leaf and ethanol extract became more concentrated. The NO scavenging activity inhibited NO generation according to the concentration and was highly dose-dependent according to the measurement of the SOD-like activity. In terms of cytotoxicity, survival rates decreased as the extract concentration increased. However, they rose at 0.1 and 0.5 mg/mL, confirming cell-protection effects. According to antimicrobial activity, a clear zone was not found on 1 mg/disc of S. aureus and S. epidermidis. However, such a zone was observed on 5 mg/disc with higher concentrations, confirming antimicrobial effects. The above results confirm that Dendropanax morbiferus leaf extract with ethanol has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects. Therefore, it is reasonable to conclude that the extract from the leaves of Dendropanax morbiferus has great potential as an ingredient for personal care cosmetics, such as skin and hair care products.
