중앙아시아 고려인의 구전설화 연구 (A Study on Oral Narratives of Central Asian Koreans)

초록

중앙아시아 고려인의 구전설화를 조사한 결과 다음과 같은 사실이 밝혀졌다.첫째, 중앙아시아에 거주하는 고려인들도 구전설화를 전승하고 있었다. 수집한 자료는 모두 90편이다.둘째, 조동일 교수의 8분법에 따라, 중앙아시아 구전설화의 유형을 분류한 결과, 5번(움직이고 멈추기 : 자연물, 인공물과 사람의 관계에 관한 이야기)에 해당하는 자료가 전무하였다. 5번에 대부분의 지명전설이 속하여 있다는 사실을 고려할 때, 고향을 떠나 이방에 떨구어져 살아온, 부평초 같은 고려인들이 5번 유형의 설화를 구연하지 못하거나 않는 것은 어쩌면 자연스러운 일인지도 모른다. 24(모를 만해서 모르기)에 속하는 자료 가운데, 현대적 유머로서, 러시아어 환경에 놓인 고려인들이, 러시아를 잘 모르거나 고려말을 잘 몰라서 일어나는 일을 소재로 한 자료들이 보인다. 디아스포라 일반이 직면할 수 있는 언어불통 문제를 실감하게 하며, 그 상황을 기지로 극복하며 살아온 고려인의 삶을 이해하게 하거나, 디아스포라 2세의 모국어 구사능력 저하의 문제를 잘 보여준다. 가장 많은 분포를 보이는 유형이 4번(바르고 그르기), 선과 악, 윤리적인 주제를 담고 있는 유형으로서 무려 43.3%를 차지해 절반에 육박하고 있다. 이는 조동일 교수가 한국구비문학대계 소재 설화를 대상으로 유형분류한 결과와 비슷하여, 설화 전승에서, 우리 민족이 ‘바르고 그르기’를 따지는 선악 문제에 가장 관심이 많다는 사실을 다시 한 번 확인하게 해준다 하겠다.셋째, 새로운 각편들도 확인되었다. 국내에서는 발견할 수 없거나 드문 각편으로 여겨지는 것들이 있다. 애정에 눈이 멀어, 친아들 형제를 죽이려고 했던 어머니를 용서하는 아들 형제의 이야기가 그것이다. 국내에서는, 계모나 친아버지로 등장하는데, 친어머니로 묘사되고 있어 충격적이다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 만난을 이겨내고 잘 살게 된 아들 형제가 어머니를 용서하고 모셔다 잘 살게 되었다는 진행과정과 결말처리는 아름답고 눈물겹다. 이런 서사단락으로 된 이 자료의 원천이 구전설화인지 신소설인지의 여부는 좀더 연구해 보아야 할 일이다. <이순신을 태우고 다닌 말> 이야기도 새로운 각편으로 보인다. ‘운명’을 강조하는 각편들도 눈에 띈다.넷째, 기타 특징들로서, 한국어로만 구연하지 않고, 러시아와 고려말을 섞어서 구연하는 점, 김아나똘리가 전해준 우즈베키스탄 고려인 구전설화의 상당수 자료에서 주인공은 물론 주요 등장인물에 성과 이름이 부여되어 있는 점도 특이하다. 이 같은 성명 부여가 김아나똘리에 의한 것인지, 혹은 이들 설화의 원천으로 작용한 고소설이나 신소설의 영향에 의한 것인지는 더 자세히 살펴봐야 할 문제이다.구전설화를 기억하여 구연할 수 있는 고려인의 연령이 대부분 80대의 고령임을 고려할 때, 이번의 중앙아시아 고려인 구전설화의 채록과 보고는, 첫 시도이자 마지막 시도라고 해도 과언이 아니다. 신산한 삶을 살아온 고려인에게, 구전설화는 우리말, 우리 가치관, 우리 문화를 계승하게 하는 매개체로서 중요한 구실을 했다고 보인다.

영어초록

There has been no concern in studying the oral narratives of Goryeoins so far, which shows a significant contrast with those cases of Chinese or Japanese Korean expatriots. This study thus makes the first attempt at the oral narratives of Central Asian Kareiskys.

Collected narratives come to 90 pieces. There are 61 pieces that I have collected myself and 29 pieces that Anatoli Kim has published in Russian. As a result of classifying and analyzing these materials, I have found out the following characteristics:

1. Typological Characteristics : first, there is an apparent lack of type 5 story—the story of the relationship between a human being and a creature or an artifact, that is, a locality-based legend. It may be considered a natural phenomenon that these expatriots who have been living in a foreign land uprooted from their country are unable to relate a type 5 story.

Second, among the type 24 stories (being unaware because they have enough reason for that), there are language-related humors where newly settling Goryeoins are making blunders due to their insufficient linguistic knowledge.

Third, the most wide-spread is the type 4 story (being either right or wrong), in which goodness and evil, along with other ethical themes, are dealt with. The percentage falls on 43.3, almost half of the whole, which shows an interesting parallel to the typology established by Professor Dong-il Cho in his research on the narrative samples in the Great Anthology of Korean Oral Literature. All this confirms the fact that we Koreans have been much interested in things that are either ‘right or wrong,’ at least in the narrative tradition.

2. New Fragments : First, the story (‘Brothers Forgiving Their Mother’) that a love-blind, amorous mother tries to kill her children who nonetheless forgives their mother falls into this category. Second, the story of ‘A Horse General Yi Soon-sin rode’ also belongs here. The white horse which was ridden by General Yi becomes a plow-horse, then is laughed at by a donkey ridden by a gentleman ; however, he retorts upon the donkey, saying that it is better to live a short but worthwhile life. Third, there are also fragments emphasizing the way of fate, which might indicate that the Goryeoins tend to live their life interpreting it as their fate.

3. Other Characteristics : First, the narrators code-switch when they narrate going between Russian and Korean. Second, in the considerable number of cases the oral narratives of Uzbekistan Goryeoins delivered by Anatoli Kim include heroes and other major protagonists who carry both their given names and surnames.
Considering that most of the Goryeoins who are able to narrate oral stories are in their eighties, it is not exaggerating to say that the job of collecting and reporting on their oral narratives conducted during this sabbatical leave is and will be the last as well as the first attempt. For most Goryeoins who have lived a hard life, orally transmitted stories seems to have played a key role in ensuring the continuance of their home language, home values, and home culture. The findings available here will be hopefully consolidated with other achievements from other disciplines so that the life and inner consciousness of this group of expatriot Koreans may be understood and measured, which could contribute to the ideals of great national integration and to the ideals of coexistence by interaction and cooperation.
