음적 형태 공간의 이용 실태 분석과 속성에 관한 연구 (A study on the Analysis to the Actual uses and Attributes on the Negative form spaces)

초록

(연구배경 및 목적) 공공공간에서 건축물과 시설물들이 설치되면서 생성되는 틈, 구석, 간격, 구멍과 같은 음적 형태 공간은 주로 쓰레기 폐기나 사유물의 적치 장소로 이용되며 보행을 방해하거나 미관을 해치는 부정적인 영향을 준다. 그 때문에 문제가 심각한 장소는 관계 기관이 단속과 계도를 하지만 그 효과는 크지 않으며, 이용자에게 바람직한 대응은 아니라고 보았다. 따라서 공간 구성과 인식의 관점으로 전환한 방법적 제시를 통해 대안을 찾아보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 음적 형태 공간의 형성 원리와 현장에서 발생되는 이용 실태를 분석하고 속성을 밝혀봄으로써, 향후 공공 환경의 기획과 디자인 과정에서 생겨날 수 있는 음적 형태 공간의 형성과 유발 행위를 사전에 예측하고 조절하여 긍정적인 기능으로 전환할 수 있는 기초 자료의 발굴에 목적을 두었다. (연구방법) 본 연구는 문헌 연구를 기반으로 현장 관찰 조사에서 수집한 자료를 대입 분석하는 방식으로 연구를 진행하었다. 관찰 조사는 보행 가로 공간에서 발견된 음적 형태 공간을 이용한 흔적들을 대상으로 하였고 이론적 고찰을 통해 음적 형태 공간의 개념과 4가지의 구조적 유형을 정의하고 물체 표상에 따른 행동 반응과 시각적 경험의 회상 처리 기제에 대한 지각 이론을 기반으로 하여 현장 관찰 조사에서 수집한 행위 흔적과 행동 자료들을 유형별로 분류하고 특성을 파악하였다. 그리고 분석 연구를 통해 음적 형태 공간의 구조적·행위적 유형과 속성을 도출하고 이를 종합하여 지각 과정에 따라 정리하였다. (결과) 음적 형태 공간은 6가지의 조합 구조와 폐쇄도에 따른 4단계의 구조적 유형으로 구분하였다. 그리고 이용 유형에 따라 폐기·수납의 2가지 행위적 유형과 숨김·고정·맞춤의 3가지 세부 특성을 추출하였고 폐쇄성·적합성·확산성의 3가지 활용 속성을 도출하였다. 도출된 내용을 종합해 지각 과정에 따라 정리한 결과, 행위자의 목적과 음적 형태 공간의 행위적 유형이 일치할 때 양 뱡향 지각이 이루어지며 4가지의 구조적 유형과 5가지의 활용 속성의 상호 관계에 따라 구체적인 행위가 선택되고 이로 인해 남은 흔적이 음적 형태 공간을 재생성하며 순환적으로 확산되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. (결론) 음적 형태 공간은 입체물이 배치되면서 필연적으로 형성되기 때문에 완전히 제거할 수는 없다. 그러나 폐쇄도가 낮은 열린 공간일수록, 이용되는 사물의 크기나 형태가 수용될 수 없거나 고정·맞춤의 목적에 적합하지 않은 구조일 때 활용 빈도가 떨어진다. 따라서 공간에 시설물을 구성할 때 음적 형태 공간의 활용이 억제될 수 있도록 배치하거나 반대로 특정한 영역에 의도적으로 음적 형태 공간을 조성하여 이용자의 활용은 유지하되 미관을 정리할 수 있다. 또한 시설물을 대신해 음적 형태 공간을 이용하도록 한다면 추가적인 시설물의 설치 없이도 공간을 활용할 수 있을 것이다. 따라서 본 연구의 결과가 공공환경의 기획과 디자인 과정에서 구조·시설물의 구성과 배치에 적용되어 불필요한 규제 없이도 깨끗하고 쾌적한 공간을 조성할 수 있는 기회가 되기를 기대한다.

영어초록

(Background and Purpose) Based on the perception theory of the behavioral response and the visual experience of the object’s representation, negative form space such as gaps, corners, and holes created by buildings and facilities in public space is used mainly to store garbage or private things. It blocks the way and gives a bad image. I tried to find alternatives by changing the perspective of space composition and cognition. The purpose of this study is to understand the formation principle of negative form space and its usage in the field and to identify basic data that can be predicted and adjusted to serve a positive function. (Method) The research was conducted by analyzing data collected through field observations. Observations were made on the traces using the negative form space found in the walking space. The concept of negative form space and the four structural types were defined through a theoretical study. I tried to find alternatives to using the facilities in public space for garbage and storage of private things by changing the perspective of space composition and cognition. (Results) The negative form space was divided into six types of combination structures and four structural types according to the degree of closure. Three behavioral characteristics of two behavioral types—hidden, fixed, and custom—were extracted and three utilization attributes—closure, conformity, and diffusion—were derived. The perception of the duality was made when the actor 's purpose and the behavioral type of the negative form space coincided, and a relationship was perceived between the four structural types and the five attributes. As a result, the remaining traces are reproduced and recurrently spread the negative form space. (Conclusions) The negative form space cannot be completely removed because it is inevitably formed when objects are placed. In an open space the utilization frequency is lowered when the frame or shape is unacceptable or is not suited to fixing and alignment purposes. When constructing the facilities in the space, it is possible to suppress the negative form space, or it can be intentionally created in a specific space, so that the users’ utilization of the space can be maintained. If one uses a negative form space instead of a facility, it will be possible to utilize the space without installing additional facilities. The result of this study will be applied to the construction and arrangement of structures and facilities in the public environment during the planning and design process; it will be an opportunity to create a clean and comfortable space without unnecessary regulation.
