‘은(恩)’으로 본 민족종교의 근대적 효(孝)개념－원불교를 중심으로－ (The Concept of Modern Filial Piety (孝) in Ethnical Religion Appearing in ‘Eun (恩)’ ‐－Focused on Won-Buddhism)

초록

본 연구는 은(恩)이라는 단어를 중심으로 민족종교에 나타난 근대적 효 개념을 살펴본다. 우선 동학과 증산교의 효 개념을 알아보고, 이를 토대로 원불교를 중심으로 근대적 효 문화의 양상을 고찰하였다.
동학의 효 개념은 유교적 효 개념을 종교적 측면으로 승화시켰다. 특히 혜월(海月)은 만물의 영장인 한울님의 은혜를 부모의 은혜와 같은 층위에서 논의하였고, 나아가 한울님에 대한 신앙 생활을 부모에 대한 효 실천과 동일하게 보았다.
증산교는 세상의 원한을 풀어 상극을 없애고 상생의 도를 이룬다는 해원상생(解冤相生)을 바탕으로 보은(報恩)을 설명한다. 즉 세상에 맺힌 원한을 해소하고 진정한 상생을 이루기 위해서는 은혜를 기반으로 한 상호관계가 성립되어야 한다. 따라서 효는 은혜를 기반으로 부모와 자식의 관계가 서로를 살리는 방향으로 나아간다.
원불교에서의 효는 은(恩)사상의 중심 사유인 감사(感謝)와 상생(相生)을 중심으로 논의된다.
원불교의 신앙에 입각한 현실생활에서의 효 실천은 감사생활로 구체화된다. 소태산이 말한 보은(報恩)의 실천방법 가운데 감사생활은 효 실천의 자발적인 동기와 의지를 이끌어내는 특성을 가지고 있다. 또한 원불교의 효는 상생을 토대로 한다. 소태산은 가족윤리에 상생의 원리를 적용하였다. 즉 가족 공간에서 부모와 자식의 상생은 곧 사회 영역으로 확장되며 나아가 우주만물의 상생으로 이어진다는 원불교의 가르침을 함의하고 있다. 이렇듯 상생의 효는 가족 간에 서로 긴밀하고 정신적 유대감을 가질 수 있는 공감의 관계를 지향한다.

영어초록

This study examines the concept of modern filial piety appearing in ethnical religion centering on the word, Eun (恩; grace). First, the concepts of the filial piety of Dong-hak and Jeungsangyo were examined, and the aspect of the culture of modern filial piety was examined based on Won-Buddhism.
Dong-hak's concept of filial piety sublimated the concept of Confucian filial piety into religious aspects. In particular, Hyewol discussed the grace of Hanulnim, the lord of all creatures, on the same level as the grace of the parents, and further observed the faith life of Hanulnim as the practice of filial piety for the parents.
Jeungsangyo explains Boeun (報恩; reward) based on Haewon- sangsaeng (解冤相生) by solving the world's grudge and eliminating incompatibility and forming a co‐prosperity intention. In other words, a grace‐based mutual relationship must be established to solve the grudge that is made in the world and to achieve true co‐prosperity. Therefore, the filial piety is based on the grace, and the relationship between the parents and the child proceeds in the direction of saving each other.
The filial piety in Won-Buddhism is discussed around the central reason of Eun (恩) thought, thanks and co‐prosperity (相生).
The practice of filial piety in the real life based on the faith of Won-Buddhism is embodied as a thankful life. In Sotaesan's way of practicing Bo‐eun (報恩; thankfulness), living a thanksgiving life has the characteristic of bringing voluntary motivation and will of practice of filial piety. The filial piety of Won-Buddhism is also based on co‐prosperity. Sotaesan applied the principle of co‐prosperity to family ethics. In other words, the co‐prosperity of parents and children in the family space implies the teaching of Won-Buddhism that it extends to the social realm and furthermore leads to co‐prosperity of the universe. Thus, the filial piety of co‐prosperity seeks to establish a sympathetic relationship that allows families to have close and spiritual bonds.
