초록

최근들어 전통공예에 대한 관심과 중요성이 대두되면서 전통공예의 현대화에 관한 연구 및 사업이 많이 진행되어왔지만 그방향성에 있어서 현대 사회의 변화와 수요에 알맞은 방향으로서는 아쉬움이 많았다. 본 연구는 전통공예와 전통공예산업의전문가, 신진작가 및 공예장인들과 디자이너를 대상으로 하여 융합교육을 통해 전통공예의 국제적인 브랜드 상품을 개발하는데 목적을 두었다. 이것은 단순히 작품지원이나 전시 등의 기회를 제공하는 방법으로는 불가능하며, 상품개발을 수행할 인력의 양성과 상품개발 노하우 습득, 그리고 개발된 상품을 판매하기 위한 마케팅이 동시에 이루어져야 하고, 전통의 다양한분야와 디자이너 및 상품개발의 전문가들의 융합적 협업을 통해 가능하다. 노하우 축적을 통한 지속적인 상품 개발이 가능하도록 교육-개발-마케팅의 세 단계로 진행되었다. 첫째, 전통공예와 디자인의 융합교육을 통해 상품개발을 수행할 우수한 인력을 발굴 및 양성하였다. 둘째, 상품개발 전문가와의 협업을 통해 전통공예의 현대화, 산업화로 대중과 소통 할 수 있는 상품울 개발하였다. 셋째, 전통공예와 디자인 산업의 융합을 통한 세계적 수준의 브랜드를 개발하고 국제전시를 수행하였다. 이러한 전통문화융복합상품개발 과정을 통해 문화적 특성과 현대적 기능이 만나 전통공예의 세계적 수준으로 새로운 디자인 세계를 열기 위한 가능성을 확인하였다. 또한 국제적 수준의 디자인을 통해 세계 시장 개척을 위한 브랜드로 한국 고유의 전통가치를 발견하여 디자인의 정체성을 수립하는데 기여하였다. 점차 잊혀져가고 어렵게 느껴지는 전통이 현대에 새롭게 재해석되어 현대인의 삶에 반영됨으로써 다시금 한국의 미를 일깨우고자 하는데 의의가 있으며, 궁극적으로는 전통문화에서 공예의 산업화에 대한 가능성을 보여주고 대중화의 새로운 방향을 찾고자 한다. 본 사업을 통해 개발된 작품들을 바탕으로 상품화및 브랜드 개발이라는 구체적인 지원으로 현대화 산업을 활성화시켜 전통공예 상품의 지속적인 개발 및 세계시장 개척의 활성화를 기대해 본다.

영어초록

Recently, various research and projects have been conducted to modernize traditional crafts as it has been identified and draws much attention. However, they have been limited as a one-time event in terms of public attention and budget support, failing to show substantial results. This study aims at developing internationality-known brands by providing convergence education targeting experts, young artists, craftsmen and designers. With only supporting the budget, the goal of education will not be achieved. The workforce to develop products should be nurtured, the know-how for product development needs to be obtained, and the marketing to sell the developed products should be pursued simultaneously. In a nutshell, various traditional fields, designers, and product developers should realize converged cooperation. It is composed of three stages encompassing education, development and marketing to make possible sustainable product development as follows: first, it is designed to find and nurture potent human resources through converged education of traditional crafts and design; second, its goal is to develop products connected to consumers based on modernization and industrialization through cooperation with product development experts; and third, an intranational exhibition was held to develop internationally-renowned brands by converging traditional crafts and design industries. As such, the process to develop converged products has been proven its possibility to lead to a new design field by harmonizing traditional features and modern functions. In addition, designs of international standards helps identity of Korea's traditional value to be developed into the brands fitted to the international market. Recently, Korea's tradition is being forgotten or getting distant among many. The study is posied to interpret it to be reflected on the contemporary life and draw attention to its beauty. Ultimately, possibility of modernizing the traditional crafts of Korea and new direction is being tested. With the products developed, detailed supports to develop products and brands will promote development of more of its kind to continue the trend and advance to the foreign markets.
