초록

본고는 조선후기 빈곤에 대응한 선비의 면모를 검토하고자 작성되었다.
조선후기는 소수 권세가 및 부귀가에 권력이 집중되었다. 대다수 선비들은권력에서 소외되었으며 출사의 통로인 과거를 통과하기가 쉽지 않았다. 선비들에게는 과거를 준비할 수 있는 물적 토대가 부실하고 사회적으로 고립된 체제에 놓여 있어서 어려움이 따랐다.
無名子 尹愭는 한미한 선비의 전형으로 조선후기 빈곤에 대응한 선비의면모를 밝히기에 적절한 인물이라 할 수 있다. 무명자는 늦은 나이에 과거에 급제한 바, 고난과 인내의 세월을 보내는 동안의 감정과 세상에 대한 시선을 시문으로 솔직하게 표현하였다.
윤기가 곤궁한 이유는 거시적인 측면에서 보면 조선후기 사회경제적인 조건에 의해 기인한 것이다. 그렇지만 이런 이유에 더하여 윤기의 성품과 행동및 가문의 영향도 일정한 역할을 하였음을 주목하였다. 윤기의 사회적 고독과 고립은, 속화되고 있는 세상 속에서 정체성을 지키느라 발생한 부득이하면서도 필연적인 결과이다. 사회적 관계의 고립은 윤기가 일반 양반들에 비해 더욱 빈곤에서 벗어날 수 없게 한 요인의 하나로 작용하였던 것이다.
俗化된 삶을 지양한 윤기는 外物에 초탈하고자 하는 경향을 보이는 바이런 태도를 통해 스스로를 慰撫했던 것이다. 세계와의 모순을 선택할 수밖에 없었던 처지에서, 자조와 번민 속에서 갈등하면서도 지속적으로 자신을토닥이고 견뎌내었다. 自尊意識을 강화하여 자신을 지켜내었다. 내면적으로 성인에의 歸依, 俗化의 경계, 安分知足, 外物에 超脫하는 경향을 보이는 것은 나름의 생존전략이다. 그렇다고 그의 인식이 내면에 국한된 것은아니다. 자신을 빈곤에 빠뜨린 상황과 시대의 문제를 예의주시하였던 바, 권세가의 부정과 전횡에 대한 비판, 세태의 俗化 및 物化에 대한 비판과 경계, 약자에 대한 관심, 과거제도에 대한 비판과 개혁의식 등 변화하는 사회관계에 대한 예리하고 독창적인 시각을 드러내었다. 이 과정에서 빈한한 자신의 처지에 갇혀서 세상을 인식하는데 머물지 않고 객관성과 엄정함을 유지하며 세상을 인식하였다. 빈한한 처지를 뛰어넘어 스스로를 위무하며 객관적 시각을 유지하고 주체적으로 사고하며 당당히 세상과 맞섰다는 점에서, 윤기의 사유와 태도는 의미를 지닌다.

영어초록

This paper was written to review the aspect of a scholar who responded to poverty during the late Chosun Dynasty. In the late Chosun Dynasty, the power was concentrated on a handful of influential families and rich families. Many scholars were marginalized from power and it was not easy to pass the state examination, a passage for entering government service. Scholars had many difficulties because the physical foundation to prepare the state examination was insufficient and they were put in a socially isolated system.
As a stereotype of poor scholars, Moomyoungja Yoon-ki can be said to be a person suitable for revealing the aspect of a scholar who responded to poverty in the late Chosun Dynasty. Passing the state examination in late age, Moomyoungja frankly expressed emotions in the years of suffering and patience and view of the world in poetry and prose.
When viewed from the macroscopic perspective, Yoon-ki’s poverty is attributed to the social and economic conditions during the late Chosun Dynasty. In addition to this reason, however, it was noted that Yoon-ki’s personality and behavior and his family’s influence played a certain role.
Yoon-ki’s social isolation and loneliness is an inevitable and inescapable result that occurred to keep the identity in the secularized world. The isolation from social relationships acted as one of factors preventing him from escape from poverty more than general noblemen.
In the circumstances where he was forced to choose the contradictions with the world, he continued to comfort himself and endured while conflicting in self-deprecation and anguish. He protected himself by strengthening self-respect. The inner trends of conversion to saints, alert to secularization, Anbunjijok(Hapiness lies in contentment), transcendence to external objects are his own survival strategies. This does not mean that his perception is confined to the inner side. Paying sharp attention to the problems of times and situations that made him poor, he revealed the sharp and creative insight into changing social relations such as criticism of corruption and dictatorialness of the powerful, criticism and alert to secularization and reification of social conditions, interest in the weak, criticism and reform consciousness of the state examination system etc.
Without remaining recognizing the world trapped in his poor position in this process, he recognized the world while maintaining the objectivity and rigorousness.
Yoon-ki’s thinking and attitude have a meaning in terms of maintaining the objective perspective while comforting himself beyond his poor circumstances and proudly standing against the world while thinking independently.
