기독교 유아의 신앙생활에 관한 문화기술 연구 - 유아부 예배와 자모실을 중심으로 - (Ethnographic Research about Christian Young Children’s Faith life in Korea - Focusing on Mother’s Faith Life, Sunday school, and Nursery room -)

초록

본 연구는 실제 기독교 유아들이 경험하는 신앙생활의 현실적 모습과 그 의미를 문화기술 연구를 통해 드러내고자 하였다. 이를 위해 3명의 유아와 대상 유아 어머니의 신앙생활 및 주일 유아부 예배를 심층면접과 참여관찰을 통해 연구하였다. 수집된 자료의 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 먼저, 어머니의 신앙생활은 유아의 신앙생활을 가능케 하는 ‘가교’로서의 역할을 하고 있었다. 어머니의 신앙적 표현, 행위 등은 유아에게 모델이 되었으며, 기독교적 가치관은 양육태도를 통해 간접적으로 전달되고 있었다. 또한 어머니의 주중 교회 참석은 유아의 자모실 참여로 이어져 유아가 신앙생활의 한 부분인 ‘교회 공동체 생활’을 할 수 있도록 도왔다. 두 번째로, 부모와 유아가 함께하는 주일 유아부 예배에서 유아는 어머니 또는 보호자로부터 정서적 지지를 얻고 있었으며, 이는 유아의 적극적인 예배 참여에 긍정적인 역할을 하고 있었다. 또한 유아들은 부모와 함께 예배를 드리는 과정에서 예배의식에 요구되는 태도와 행동을 지도 받았다. 유아와 부모가 함께하는 예배는 어머니가 교회의 신앙 교육을 가정에서도 적극적으로 연계하도록 돕고, 유아의 신앙 표현을 잘 이해하여 활발한 신앙의 상호작용을 하도록 돕는 중요한 기능을 하였다.
현대 기독교 유아들에게 있어 어머니는 과거의 직접적인 신앙 교육자의 역할에서 벗어나 신앙의 모델 그리고 지원자로서의 역할을 하고 있었으며, 어머니의 신앙생활과 교회 중심적 생활 패턴은 또래관계의 기회가 적고, 사회적 유대감이 긴밀하지 않은 현대 유아들에게 교제와 사회적 지지망을 제공하고 있었다.

영어초록

This study is to reveal the experience and the meaning of christian young children's faith life in Korea. We have focused on three young children who are being raised in a christian background, and have studied their attendance using participant observation method. We also have observed their attendance in the church nursery while their parents attended service on weekdays. In addition, we have carried out in-dept interview with the children's mothers to get an insight into the children's faith life placed at home.
The first conclusion of the study is that the mother's faith life style was functioning as a ‘bridge’ for their child. The mother's religious expressions and actions were serving as a role-model for young children. And the mother's religious values were being passed on through their child-rearing attitude on everyday events. The most interesting thing was that the mother's faith life style became a field for their children's friendship and relationship at church. The church nursery based relationship between children and mothers were being extended outside church, which provided many opportunities for young children to meet friends and their mothers often. This enabled the children to form a sense of community and benefit from a church based social supports network. The Second conclusion is that the sunday school, which is attended with their parents, were affecting the mothers to be a more supportive parent regarding their child's religious education. The mothers who have attended the sunday school with their child, have shown more interest in their children's religious activities that are given from church. And also were a more active communicator in case of religious conversations.
This study has shown that for christian young children today, the mother has stepped down from being a teacher of christianity but is serving a role as an supporter. Which makes the connection of church's religious education and the christian family a critical factor in young children's religious development. And that for young children, the mother's church centered life style has functioned to meet their social needs. This can be considered as a very important support for children living today.
