5･18역사왜곡의 극단주의적 특성: 유튜브 5･18왜곡 동영상을 중심으로 (Extremist traits of 5･18 history Distortion: Focusing on YouTube 5･18 distortion contents)

초록

이 논문은 사회적･사법적 평가가 일정 정도 이루어졌다고 생각하였던 5･18담론이 북한군 개입이라는 주장을 통해 1980년 폭동담론으로 회귀하는 현상에 주목하였다. 2013년 박근혜 정부 출범 이후 5･18왜곡의 결정판인 북한군 개입설이 등장하였다. 종편은 5･18을 재해석한다는 명목으로 북한군 개입을 공론화시켰다. 보수논객들 역시 북한군 개입을 증명하기 위해 증언자 확보를 공언하였다. 2019년 5･18 국회 공청회는 북한군 개입설이 국회 안에서 주장된 사건으로 5･18담론 지형의 변화를 단적으로 보여준다.
이 논문은 5･18왜곡담론이 유튜브를 통해 급격하게 확산되는 현실에 주목하여 200건의 5･18왜곡 유튜브를 분석하였다. 언어의 구성물인 담론이 현실을 규정하는 사회적 힘으로 작용하는 실천적 행위라는 측면에서 5･18왜곡 서사와 그 특성을 파악하고자 한 것이다. 분석 내용은 5･18왜곡 유튜브의 실태, 각 유튜브의 특징과 차이점, 왜곡 내용의 서사적 특징 등이다. 5･18왜곡 유튜브는 지만원TV와 조갑제TV 등 주요 채널 4곳으로 압축되었다.
5･18왜곡담론은 북한군 개입설과 가짜 유공자담론으로 모아졌다. 북한군 개입설은 신군부의 헌정질서 파괴범죄와 부당한 공권력 행사를 정당화하는 논리로 5･18담론을 1980년 폭동담론으로 전환시키려한다. 한편 가짜 유공자담론은 북한군 개입설의 연장으로 5･18 참여군인의 피해의식과 청년세대의 불안한 현실에 대한 분노를 부추긴다. 5･18왜곡 서사는 5･18 때 북한군이 개입하였다는 전제 하에 당시의 상황을 임의적으로 재구성하였다. 이러한 주장은 주로 객관적으로 확인되지 않은 증언자의 말에 근거하였다. 이들은 국가기관의 발표에 대해서도 선별적으로 수용하는 등 정보 습득의 확증편향성을 보였다, 반공 이데올로기에 기초한 5·18왜곡 서사는 이념적 성향이 다른 집단에 대한 테러 수준의 폭력적 공격성을 드러내 위험스러운 한국 사회의 극단주의적 단면을 보여주었다.

영어초록

This article is to examine the traits of distorted discourse about May 18. The claim that the North Koreans intervened in May 18 returns its discourse to the 1980’s riot discourse. Since the Park Geun-hye administration was launched in 2013, the May 18 distortions have intensified. The claim of North Korean military intervention appeared at this time. This argument publicized the North Korean military intervention. In 2019, a public hearing about allegations of North Korean intervention were a shocking event in the National Assembly. That event shows that the terrain of the May 18 discourse has been completely changed.
This article attempted to grasp the May 18 distortion narrative and its characteristics. So this article analyzed the contents of two hundred the May 18 distortion YouTubes spreading on the Internet. This is because discourse acts as a social force that defines reality as a component of language. The May 18 Distortion YouTube was compressed into 4 channels, including jiManwon and JoGapje. The content of the analysis is the reality of the May 18 distortion YouTube, the characteristics and differences of each YouTube, and the narrative characteristics of the distorted content.
This argument is intended to return the 5･18 discourse to the new military riot discourse. If the presumed North Koreans were protesters, it would not be a problem for South Korean troops to suppress them. In addition, the May 18 Distortion Discourse insists on the release of the list of men of merit with an excuse to find false men of merit, spreading the distorted information. The May 18 Merit discourse express about victimhood of the May 18 soldiers and anger over the unstable reality of the youth generation.
The May 18 Distortion Narrative presupposes that the North Koreans were involved in May 18. Their argument arbitrarily reconstructs facts of the time. The basis for this claim is largely based on testimony that has not been objectively confirmed. They selectively took the announcements of state agencies. In other words, it showed the bias of information acquisition. Gwangju citizens are not erased from their narratives, which are not predicated on the historical, social and political understanding of May 18. Distortion narrative based on anti-communist ideology attempts to isolate May 18 from the people by dichotomous scheme. In particular, these ideological tendencies showed the terrorist level of violence and aggression against other groups, demonstrating the dangerous extreme tendencies of Korean society.
