웹소설 플랫폼에서 나타나는 공간 생산의 주체 - 앙리 르페브르의 『공간의 생산』을 중심으로 - (The Subject of Space Production in the Web Fiction Platform - Based on Henri Lefebvre’s The Production of Space -)

초록

본고는 웹소설 플랫폼에서 나타나는 공간 생산의 주체들의 사회적 실천과 공간의 전유에 대한 사례를 중심으로 한다. 이를 통해 플랫폼에서 나타나는 공간 생산의 3 주체가 구체적으로 누구이고, 이들의 사회적 공간에 어떻게 개입하는지 논의한다. 본고는 가상 공간에서 르페브르의 공간 양식과 공간 생산의 주체들이 어떻게 나타나는지 밝힌다. 또한 본고는 웹소설 플랫폼의 사례를 바탕으로 현재 글로벌 네트워크에서 이루어지는 가상 공간의 주체들과 이들이 만들어내는 ‘공간의 생산’ 의미에 대해 논의한다.
르페브르에 따르면, 공간은 공간적 실천, 공간 재현, 재현 공간이라는 3 계기를 통해 변증법적으로 생산된다. 그리고 이러한 공간 생산에는 지배계급, 공간 기획자, 개인이라는 공간 생산의 주체들이 개입한다. 이러한 점에서 본고는 르페브르가 제시한 공간 생산의 주체가 플랫폼에서 어떻게 나타나고, 이들의 개입을 통해 공간이 어떻게‘생산’되는지에 대해 논의한다. 공간 생산에서 공간 기획자에게 공간 구축을 강요하고 토대를 마련하는 지배계급은 가상 공간에서 글로벌 네트워크에 다양한 접속망을 소유하고 있고, 접속한 이들에게 제반 서비스를 제공하는 플랫폼을 소유한 글로벌 기업을 의미한다고 볼 수 있다. 그리고 이러한 글로벌 기업은 그들의 이데올로기를 담고 있는 토대를 공간 기획자(IT 전문가)를 통해 구축한다. 그리고 이렇게 구축된 토대(플랫폼)에 접속한 개인들은 그 토대 위에서 다각화된 공간을 만들어내며 공간을 전유한다. 다시 말해 공간을 생산하는 3 주체는 가상 공간 속에서 사라지지 않는다. 이는 가상 공간이 르페브르가 비판한 국가자본주의와 기술관료정치적 지식구조를 벗어난 새로운 독립된 공간이 아니라, 글로벌 시장 자본주의와 기술 중심의 지식구조로 대체되었을 뿐인 공간 생산임을 드러낸다. 이런 점에서 웹소설 플랫폼의 공간을 생산하는 3 주체는 플랫폼 사업자(지배계급), 작가(도시기획자), 이용자(개인)이다.
본고는 사례를 통해 웹소설 플랫폼의 수많은 독자들이 빠르게 플랫폼을 이동하고, 넘나들면서 사태가 변화한 것을 알 수 있었다. 플랫폼이라는 가상 공간은 ‘공간이 단수가 아니라 복수 형태로 존재’하고, 병존이라는 공간적 원리를 포함한다. 다시말해 가상 공간에서 개인들이 물리적 공간에서의 개인들과 달리 공간을 넘나들고 중첩할 수 있다는 점에서 가상 공간은 ‘개인’에 의해 끊임 없이 ‘전유’되는 게릴라적 공간 생산이 이루어짐을 알 수 있었다. 그런데 이는 게릴라적인 다각화된 공간이 개인의 실천 공간에 의해 공간이 생산되는 것이라기보다 기존의 공간 생산과 같은 층위로서 ‘전유’되는 것에 지나지 않다. 이런 점에서 플랫폼은 결국 르페브르의 논의에서 벗어나지 않는다. 그러나 우리는 게릴라적 공간 생산이라는 ‘긍정’ 속에서 자치와 전유의 이념을 표방하는 공간정치가 실현될 수 있다는 ‘가능성’을 찾을 수 있다.

영어초록

This paper focuses on examples of the social practices and appropriation of space by the subjects of space production that appear in the web fiction platform. Through this, we discuss who the three subjects of space production that appear on the platform are specifically and how they intervene in social space. This paper reveals how the spatial patterns and subjects of space production that appear in Lefebvre’s production of space appear in virtual space. Based on the example of a web novel platform, we discuss the subjects of virtual space in the current global network and the meaning of ‘production of space’ they create.
According to Lefebvre, space is produced dialectically through three moments: spatial practice, spatial representation, and represented space. And the subjects of space production, such as the ruling class, space planners, and individuals, are involved in this space production. In this respect, this paper discusses how the subjects of space production presented by Lefebvre appear on the platform and how space is ‘produced’ through their intervention. In space production, the ruling class that forces space planners to build space and lays the foundation can be seen as a global company that owns various access networks to the global network in virtual space and a platform that provides various services to those connected. You can. And these global companies build the foundation that contains their ideology through space planners (IT experts). And individuals who access the foundation (platform) constructed in this way create a multifaceted space on that foundation and appropriate the space. In other words, the three entities that produce space do not disappear in virtual space. This reveals that virtual space does not present a new spatial production model that escapes the state capitalism and technocratic political knowledge structure criticized by Lefebvre, but rather is a spatial production that has only been replaced by global market capitalism and technology-centered knowledge structure. In this respect, the three entities that produce the space of the web novel platform are platform operators (ruling class), writers (urban planners), and users (individuals).
Through a case study, this paper was able to see that the situation changed as numerous readers of the web novel platform quickly moved and crossed platforms. The virtual space called the platform ‘space exists in plural form, not singular’ and includes the spatial principle of coexistence.
In other words, in that individuals in virtual space can cross and overlap spaces, unlike individuals in physical space, it can be seen that virtual space is a guerrilla space production that is constantly ‘appropriated’ by ‘individuals’. However, this is nothing more than a guerilla-like diversified space being ‘appropriated’ at the same level as existing space production, rather than a space being produced through an individual’s practice space. In this respect, the platform does not ultimately escape Lefebvre’s discussion. However, we originate from the ‘possibility’ that spatial politics advocating the ideology of autonomy and appropriation can be realized within the ‘affirmation’ of guerrilla space production.
