원불교 학술활동의 현황과 과제-원불교사상연구원의 학술·연구활동을 중심으로- (Status and Tasks of Academic Activities in Won-Buddhist Studies- Focused on Academic and Research Activities of the Institute of Won-Buddhist Thought -)

초록

이 논문은 원불교의 학술활동상을 살펴 그 전망과 과제를 제기하는것이 목적이다. 이를 원불교사상연구원의 학술·연구활동을 중심으로살펴보기로 한다. 원광대학교 교책연구기관으로 1974년 설립된 원불교사상연구원은 원불교학의 센터역할을 해왔으며, 그 학술·연구활동을살펴보면 원불교학계의 현황과 과제가 드러나기 때문이다.
학술활동은, 첫째 <원불교사상연구 학술대회>가 1982년부터 2010년까지 29회 열려 572편의 논문이 발표되었다. 둘째 <국제불교문화학술회의>가 원광대학교와 일본의 불교대학 간의 학술자매결연에 의해1973년부터 2009년까지 21회 열려 193편의 논문이 발표되었다. 셋째 <월례연구발표회>가 1974년부터 2010년까지 176회 열렸고, 넷째 그 밖에 특별 주제를 내건 학술회의가 1977년부터 2010년까지 14회 열려 80편의 논문이 발표되었다. 연구활동은, 첫째 학술연구지『원불교사상과 종교문화』를 1975년부터 2010년까지 45회 발간하여 587편의 논문을 수록하였다. 둘째『원불교사상연구원 원보』를 1979년부터 2010년까지 62회 발간하였고, 셋째 <원불교사상연구 총서> 10권과 <기념논문집> 12권을 발간하였다.
이와 같은 원불교사상연구원의 학술·연구활동은 성과에 있어서도원불교학을 주도하는 역할을 해왔다. 특히 2010년에는 한국연구재단의인문한국(HK) 지원사업에 <마음인문학 : 인류정신문명의 새로운 희망>이 아젠다로 선정되어, 10년간 새로운 차원의 연구를 진행하게 된다.
그런데 원불교학계가 안고 있는 현안의 여건과 관련해 보면 다음과 같은 과제를 지적할 수 있을 것이다. 그것은 첫째 연구인력의 육성, 둘째연구방법론의 개발, 셋째 특수과제의 진행에 따른 원불교학 연구의 위축 등의 문제이다. 원불교 개교100년을 내다보는 시점에서 원불교사상연구원은 원불교학계의 미래를 전망하면서 중장기 발전계획을 수립할필요가 있다. 이에 바탕하여 학술·연구활동을 조직적으로 추진할 때교단적인 협력도 얻을 수 있을 것으로 본다.

영어초록

This article is to suggest the prospect and task of academic activities in Won-Buddhism by investigating it. It is mainly focused on academic and research activities of the Institute of Won-Buddhist Thought. It is the research institute established for policy of Wonkwang University at 1974, and has been played a role of center of Won-Buddhist studies. Therefore, investigating its academic and research activities would manifest current status and tasks.
Activities of the Institute of Won-Buddhist Thought can be divided into academic and research.
For academic activities, firstly, <Academic Conference of Research on Won-Buddhist Thoughts> has been held 29 times with 572 presented articles between 1982 and 2010; secondly, <International Academic Conference for Buddhist Culture> has been held 21 times and presented 193 articles between 1973 and 2009 by academic alliance with Bukkyo Univesity in Japan; thirdly,<Monthly Research Seminar> has been held 176 times between 1974 and 2010; fourthly, other academic conferences for specific themes have been held 14 times and presented 80 articles.
In research activities, firstly, a research journal, Won-Buddhist Thought and Religious Culture has been published 587 articles in 45 volumes between 1975and 2010; secondly, Bulletin of the Institute of Won-Buddhist Thought has been published 62 volumes between 1979 and 2010; thirdly, 10 volumes of the Collections of Won-Buddhist Thoughts Research and 12 volumes of Commemoration Journal have been published.
Those academic and research activities of the Institute of Won-Buddhist Thought lead Won-Buddhist studies and brought an outstanding result.
Especially, on 2010, its new agenda“ Mind Humanities: New Hope of Human Spiritual Civilization”has selected for Humanities Korea Supporting Projects of National Research Foundation, and will carry on new dimension of research for next ten years.
However, considering current condition of Won-Buddhist studies, following tasks can be pointed out. Those are 1) upbringing of human resources for research, 2) development of research methodology, and 3) shrinking research on Won-Buddhist studies for development of special theme. On the point of coming the Centennial Anniversary of Foundation of Won-Buddhism, the Institute of Won-Buddhist Thoughts has to establish middle and long term development plan, considering the future of Won-Buddhist Studies. On the such ground carrying on systematic academic and research activities, the Institute can attain help from order of Won-Buddhism.
