조선 도자의 용(龍)에 나타난 심미의식 (The Aesthetic Consciousness of Dragons Drawn on Joseon Ceramics)

초록

조선왕조 오백 년간의 정치, 사회의 변화 가운데서도자는 가장 한국적인 특징을 보인다. 중국으로부터영향을 받았지만 조선인의 취향에 맞는 멋과 실용성으로 발전하며 도자가 일상용기에서 큰 비중을 차지하게 되어 국가나 사대부들의 지대한 관심의 대상이되었다. 조선 도자에는 분청사기와 백자 두 가지로 분류할 수 있는데, 그 중에서도 백자에는 용의 그림이많이 그려진 것을 볼 수 있다.
여러 동물의 특징적인 무기와 기능을 고루 갖춘 용은 웅비와 비상, 그리고 희망의 상징동물인 동시에 지상 최대의 권위를 상징하는 동물로 숭배되어왔다. 이러한 용은 운행우시를 자유롭게 하는 수신, 불교의 호교자, 그리고 왕권을 수호하는 호국룡으서의 기능을발휘하면서 한국 문화의 중요한 모티프가 되었다.
따라서 본 연구는 한국인의 심미의식이 잘 드러난조선도자에 그려진 용의 그림을 분석하여 동양미학과연계를 시도해 봄으로서 한국 도자미학이라는 새로운범주로의 가능성과, 현재 도예가들이 작업을 하는데있어 부족한 부분인 이론적 배경을 제공하고자 연구되어졌다.
연구방법으로는 조선시대의 분청사기, 청화백자와철화백자에 그려진 용의 사진을 서적에서 수집하고,각 작품에 등장하는 용을 빈 공간과 구름과의 관계,표정에 나타난 특징, 용의 발과 여의주가 지니고 있는상징, 용의 모습 등으로 나누어 분석하였다. 그 외의자료는 인터넷 사이트, 논문과 단행본을 포함한 도서ㆍ출판물 등으로 조선시대 도자의 심미의식을 이해할수 있도록 연구를 진행하였다,본 연구의 범위와 내용은 조선시대의 도자인 분청사기와 백자-항아리, 병, 연적, 필세 등의 기형(器形)에 등장하는 용의 모습을 구름, 용의 얼굴, 발의 숫자,여의주 등으로 세분하여 분석하고, 이를 동양미학의고전과 연계하여 해석해 보았다.
조선도자에 나타난 용의 그림을 분석하고, 이것을동양미학과 연계해 본 결과 여백에서는 기(氣)의 미를, 용의 표정에서는 물화미(物化美)를, 용의 발에서는상징미(象徵美)를, 그리고 용의 모습에서는 교졸미(巧拙美)로의 심미적인 해석이 가능하다는 결론을 얻을수 있었다. 이는 앞으로 도자미학이라는 새로운 장르의 존재 가능성과, 현재 도예가들이 작업을 하는데 중요한 이론적 배경이 될 수 있음을 알 수 있다.

영어초록

Seen from the political, social changes for five hundred years of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea, the changes of ceramics show feature of Korea.
Although impacted from China, but the development of style and practicality in life have accounted for a large proportion of the gentry of the country or the subject of a great interest. Joseon ceramics can be classified into the buncheong wares and the white porcelain, and the dragon was drawn on the many white porcelains.
The dragon, which has been believed to have the characteristics of various animals with a variety of weapons and functions, has been worshiped for a symbol of animal of grandeur, innovative flying and hopes and at the same times a symbol of the authority of the ground-up animals. The dragon has become Korea’s great motif while functioning as the gardian which can control the clouds and the rain, and as the gardian for Buddism and the gardian for the country.
Therefore this study is to provide the theoretical background that current potters lacks for their work and the ceramic aesthetics as a new category of potentially by trying connecting this study and oriental aesthetics through the analysis of the picture of dragons on the Joseon ceramics.
The research methods are the collecting of the pictures of the dragons on white porcelain, painted on the cheonghwa white porcelain with cheolhwa Joseon Dynasty from books and the analysis of the dragons into the relationship between the dragon and the empty space of the cloud, and the features of the dragons’ expression, the symbols of the dragons’feet and Eui-Ju. Other information of Internet sites,books and publications, including papers and books,so that you can understand the aesthetic consciousness of the Joseon Dynasty ceramics.
The scope and content of this study are to investigate the drawing activities of dragons on buncheong wares and white porcelain-on pots, bottles,the keeper of water, in this study the dragons are analasized into the clouds, face, the number of feet,Eui-ju and interpretated connecting with the classic oriental aesthetics.
This study had the conclusion that the attempt to analyze the asesthetic interpretation could be-from the figure of dragons in the Joseon ceramics into figure margins through the beauty of aura, into the beauty of dragon expression, into the beauty of the symbol, into the beauty of ingenuity. These attempts may be able to predict that the possibility of a new genre called ceramic aesthetics and current potters’important theoretical background to their works.
