현대 이야기꾼의 유형과 특성 －어린이도서연구회 ‘옛날이야기 들려주기 활동가’를 중심으로－ (The Types and Characteristics of Modern Folktale Storytellers －Focusing on ‘Activists Telling Folktales’ of Korean Children’s Book Association－)

초록

이글에서는 현대 이야기꾼 가운데 어린이도서연구회 ‘옛날이야기 들려주기 활동가’에 주목하였다. 이 단체의 옛이야기꾼 설화 향유 방식은 전통사회에서 누구나 어느 곳이든 일상속에서 설화를 즐겨왔던 일상성을 지향한다.
어린이도서연구회 ‘옛날이야기 들려주기 활동가’(이하 옛이야기꾼)는 설화 체득 과정과구연 종목 선정 과정에서 전통성, 연행의 자율성과 개성을 중시하는 현대의 설화 구술 전승주체이자 생활현장형 이야기꾼으로서의 성격을 지닌다.
현대 옛이야기꾼의 유형은 구연 공간, 청중 연령, 구연 종목, 구연 방식에 따라 분류할수 있다.
① 구연 공간에 따라 실내형과 실외형 이야기꾼으로 유형화할 수 있다. 실내형 이야기꾼은 집안형과 공공형으로 세분화할 수 있다. 어린이도서연구회 옛이야기꾼은 대다수 실내형이야기꾼에 속한다.
② 청중의 연령에 따라 아동형, 성인형과 청중 연령을 아우르는 복합형 이야기꾼으로 유형화할 수 있다. 어린이도서연구회 옛이야기꾼은 아동형 이야기꾼이 가장 많다. 오늘날, 고령화 사회에 걸맞게 노인 대상의 노인형 이야기꾼 생성도 고려해야 할 때이다.
③ 현대 옛이야기꾼은 대부분 구연 종목으로 신화, 전설, 민담을 두루 아울러 채택하기때문에 정통설화를 구연하는 옛이야기꾼은 ‘옛날얘기형’으로 통칭할 수 있다. 어린이도서연구회 옛이야기꾼은 과거 이야기판에서 크게 주목하지 않았던 말놀이나 형식담을 주요 구연종목으로 선호하는 경향이 있다.
④ 구연 방식에 따라 정통형, 교시형, 연기형, 청중소통형 이야기꾼으로 유형화할 수 있다. 정통형은 구비공식적 표현을 잘 따르고 현란한 기교 없이 서사의 기본에 충실한 구연을선호한다. 교시형은 구연 과정에서 교시적 표현을 자주 사용하며, 연기형은 대화체, 음성상징어, 다양한 비언어적 표현을 사용하여 장면에 극적 효과와 재미를 부여한다. 청중소통형은청중과 쌍방향 소통을 중시하면서 이야기판을 역동적으로 이끈다.
어린이도서연구회 옛이야기꾼은 설화 구술 전승의 주체로서 오늘날 사라져가는 이야기구술문화의 회복과 확장에 크게 기여하고 있다.

영어초록

This study pays attention to the activists who narrate folktales orally belonging to Korean children’s book association among modern storytellers who narrate folktales. The storytellers’ way of enjoying folktales of this association aim for the dailiness that enjoyed folktales anywhere and anybody in everyday life in the traditional society.
‘The activists who narrate folktales’ in Korean children’s book association (hereafter, folktale storytellers) are the life site style storytellers who value tradition, autonomy of performance and individuality in the process of learning folktales and selecting a folktale to narrate and modern transmission subjects who orally narrate folktales.
Modern folktale storyteller’s types are grouped by the storytelling space, age of the audience, storytelling items, and storytelling styles.
Depending on the space of narrating folktales, it is divided into indoor and outdoor type of storytellers. Indoor storytellers can be subdivided into domestic storytellers who narrate folktales in the house and public storytellers who narrate folktales in public indoor places. The folktale storytellers of Korean children’s book association belong to the indoor type.
Depending on the age of the audience, storytellers can be categorized as a child type, an adult type, and complex type that encompasses all age. The folktale storytellers of Korean children’s book association belong most to the child type. As befits an aging society, the storytellers targeting the elderly should gradually increase as well.
Depending on the storytelling style, storytellers can be classified as an orthodox type, a teaching type, an acting type, and an audience-interaction type.
The storyteller of orthodox type follows the formal expression of storytelling and orally narrates the basics of the narrative faithfully without florid skills. The storyteller of teaching type frequently uses doctrinal expressions in the storytelling process, and the storyteller of acting type adds dramatic effect and fun to the scene using dialogic style, sound symbolism, and nonverbal expression. The storyteller of audience-interaction type values interactive communication with the audience and leads storytelling sites dynamically.
In conclusion, the folktale storytellers of Korean children’s book association as the subject of oral transmission of folktales is contributing greatly to the recovery and expansion of the oral storytelling culture of folktales that is disappearing.
Most of the modern storytellers widely adopt myths, legends, and folktales as storytelling items, so folktale storytellers who orally narrate traditional folktales can be collectively referred to as an old story type. The folktale storytellers of Korean children’s book association tend to prefer word games or formal stories that have not received much attention in the past as main storytelling items.
