남해 도서지역의 구비전승물과 해양정서－멸치를 중심으로－ (Oral Heritages and Marine Atmosphere of the South Sea－Focused on Anchovy－)

초록

이 논문은 멸치잡이와 관련된 남해 도서지역의 구비전승물을, 해양정서의 구현이라는 관점에서 살피되, 생태적 생명성, 자연적 적응성, 개방적 다양성, 진취적 의식성에 초점을 두는 동시에 현사회에서 그것이 지닌 해양문화사적 위상을 검토한 것이다.
첫째, 완도~고흥~남해권에 속하면서, 해양문화의 기점(起點)이 되는 거문도, 육지문화의 통로(通路)가 되는 남해도 등의 도서지역 멸치어장권에서, 개별성을 강조하고 지역성을 구현하기 위해, ‘생태적 생명문화, 자연적 적응문화, 개방적 다양문화, 진취적 의식문화’ 등에서 일반성과 개별성을 구분할 수 있다.
둘째, 생명·생태의 신앙면에서 풍어제의 신격을 상상으로 신앙하며, 행위를 통해 신앙의 결절점(結節點)을 만들었다. 풍어제의 최영 장군, ‘재수가 좋다, 재수가 나쁘다’ 등의 논거로, 신앙이 상상에 의해서 추동되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 적응·자연의 의례면에서 멸치어로의 시작에서 의례하며, 행위를 통해 생산의례의 결절점을 만들었다. 멸치잡이 어로, ‘숲 해치면 마을 망한다.’ 등을 논거로, 의례가 이행(移行)에 의해서 추동되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 다양·개방의 놀이면에서 풍어제를 시가무(詩歌舞)로 푸는 행위를 통해 놀이의 결절점을 만들었다. 초도의 산다이 방식의 화전놀이, 추자도 해녀의 산다이의 소리, 산다이의 ‘여럿이 모여서 소리하고 노’는 산다이의 <흥타령>, <엿타령> 등을 논거로, 놀이가 언어에 의해서 추동되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 의식·진취의 노동면에서 멸치어로에서, 기후, 해류 및 조류, 물때, 파도, 바람의 종류 등을 보고 소리를 하는 행위를 통해 노동의 결절점을 만들었다. 멸치잡이소리, “소리가 끼어야 재미있다", "소리하고 놀 때 흥이 난다" 등을 근거로, 노동이 소리에 의해서 추동되고 있음을 알 수 있다.
셋째, 남해 도서지역 구비전승물은 해양문화사적 가치를 지닌다고 할 수 있다. 그것에서 해양정서가 구현되기 때문이다. 특히 멸치는 그 자체가 활어, 멸치잡이는, ‘여기’의 지점에서 남해 도서지역민이 필수한 문화론적 경제활성화의 통로, 그리고 멸치잡이의 어로문화자원은, ‘지금’의 시점에서 남해 도서지역민이 창조한 멸치의 회유문화이고, 시간에 따라 흥성과 망쇠를 논의할 수 있는 어장문화라는 점에서도 가치가 있다고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

This study investigated oral heritages in isles regions of Namhae, or the South Sea regarding anchovy fishery in view point of marine atmosphere, focusing on ecological vitality, natural adoptability, open diversity and progressive consciousness, as well as speculated on the marine-cultural status that the heritage possesses in the current society.
First, the research can differentiate generality from individuality in ‘ecological vitality, natural adoptability, open diversity and progressive consciousness,’ in order to emphasize individuality and realize locality in anchovy-fishing areas of isles regions, such as Geomundo which is a part of Wando-Goheung-Namhae regions and is a starting point of marine culture and Namhaedo which is a channel of land culture.
Second, in a sense of the religion of life and ecology, the resident made a node of religion via performance with belief in the divinity of Pungeoje (a good-catch ceremony) in imagination. It is found that belief was generated by imagination based on the reasons, such as the general Choiyeong in Pungeoje and the statement of ‘lucky or unlucky.’As for the case of adoptability and nature, the ceremony emerged from the beginning of anchovy fishery, and made a node for the rite of production. It is verified that the ceremony was generated by ritual performance based on anchovy fishery and the statement of ‘Destroying forest is ruining village.’In regard to the practice of diversity and openness, the resident made a node of play through the practice that materialized Pungeoje as poem, song and dance. It is proved that the play was generated by the language on the basis of Hwajeonnori, a kind of Sandai style of Chodo, Sandai Sori by Haenyeo or a female diver, oral statements which were produced by song and dance of Sandai groups and Heungtaryong and Yeottaryong of Sandai.
In terms of the labor of consciousness and progressiveness, people made a node of labor through the performance in which they narrated atmosphere, ocean currents and tidal currents, tide time, wave and kinds of winds in anchovy fishery. It is found that the labor was generated by Sori on the evidence of the anchovy-catching song, the statement of “It must be fun when fishing goes with songs,” and “Fun comes with song and dance.”Last, oral heritages in isles regions of Namhae can be worth marine cultural value, by which marine atmosphere is realized. In particular, it is worth while to say that anchovy itself is a live fish; anchovy fishery is a channel by which the residents of Namhae isles regions search for culturological economic revitalization in ‘this area’; fishing cultural resource of anchovy fishery is a circular culture of anchovy which the residents of Namhae isles regions created in ‘this present time,; and is a fishery culture in which ups and downs can be discussed depending on time.
