지역어의 역할과 현실대응 (The role of local language and realistic response)

초록

이 연구에서는 방언이 국어의 발전에 끼친 역할, 방언이 민족의 문화 계승 발전에 끼친 역할, 국어사전에서 방언이 갖는 역할, 문화적 방언 연구를 살펴보며, 방언이 처한 현실을 살펴본다. 그리고 방언 연구자의 현실대응의 문제를 살펴보고자 한다.
방언은 국어 발전에 큰 공헌을 하여 왔다. 조선시대 서민들의 문자 생활에 크게 기여하였으며 일제강점기 서민들의 문맹퇴치에 크게 기여하였다. 방언은 우리 민족의 문화를 계승하면서 발전시키는 데 크게 공헌하였다. 한글고전소설에서 지역의 방언이 사용되면서 수많은 서민들이 한글을 읽을 수 있게 되었다. 판소리, 민요, 설화 등에 방언이 사용되어 구비전승되면서 문화를 발전시켰다. 현대시와 현대소설에서 방언이 사용되면서 리얼리즘을 구현하였다. 또한 필사한 책에 지역 방언을 사용하여 서민들이 읽을 수 있도록 하면서 한문이 대부분인 현실에 적극적으로 대응하였다.
방언 연구자들은 여전히 방언을 국어학 연구의 보조적인 자료로 활용하고 있다. 방언을 종합적으로 다루지 않고 자기 전공에 맞는 아주 일부의 방언만을 다루면서 연구하고 있다. 표준어 중심의 언어정책으로 인하여 방언에 대한 국민들의 인식이 바뀌지 않고 있다. 다행히 지방자치제가 실시된 이후에 지역민들의 인식이 크게 바뀌었다. 방언을 지역의 대표적인 문화로 생각하게 된 것이다. 현실에 대응하고 방언 연구가 힘을 가지려면 지역의 문화와 관련을 맺어야 한다. 따라서 지방자치단체와 공동으로 연구하는 방안이 마련되어야 한다.
표준어의 개념 속에는 한국어를 대표한다는 공통어의 개념이 포함되어 있다. 그러나 현재 우리나라의 표준어는 한국어를 대표하기에는 어휘의 숫자나 의미 파악 등이 매우 부족한 실정이다. 이러한 이유는 무엇보다도 그간 방언 어휘에 대한 정밀하고 종합적 연구가 이루어지지 않았기 때문이다. 방언 어휘가 어떤 역사를 가지고 있는지, 어떤 규칙으로 생성된 것인지, 표준어의 어휘와 어떤 상관성을 가지고 있는지를 밝히지 못한 데 있다. 방언에 대한 깊은 이해와 연구를 통하여 방언들이 갖는 공통어적 특질을 찾아서 표준어에 넣는 작업을 해야 한다. 이를 위해서 단수 표준어 정책을 복수 표준어 정책을 중심으로 반드시 바꾸어야 한다. 남북한과 한민족의 언어 통일을 위하여 복수 공통어를 확대해야 한다.
한국을 대표하는 국어사전에서 방언의 처리는 아주 미약하다. 표준어에 비해 뜻풀이와 해설이 없고, 한꺼번에 지역어를 제시하고 있어서 사용자의 입장에서는 이해하기 어렵다. 해당 지역어가 갖는 정밀한 의미와 쓰임을 바탕으로 작성된 새로운 방언사전을 지자체와 협력하여 구축하여야 한다. 이러한 다양한 지역의 방언사전을 바탕으로 표준어를 선정하고 국어사전을 작성하여야만 한국어를 대표하는 공통어적인 표준어를 확립할 수 있을 것이다.

This study examines the role of dialects in the development of Korean language, the role of dialects in the cultural succession of nations, the role of dialects in Korean dictionaries, and the reality of dialects in terms of cultural dialect research. let us examine the problem of the dialect researcher's response to reality.
Dialects have made a great contribution to the development of Korean language. the dialects contributed greatly to the literary life of the common people in the Joseon Dynasty and contributed greatly to the literacy of the common people during the Japanese occupation. the dialects contributed greatly to the succession and development of the culture of our people. the use of local dialects in Korean classic novels has made it possible for a large number of ordinary people to read Korean. Pansori, folk songs, and tales, including dialects, were delivered from mouth to mouth and developed culture. the dialects were used in modern poetry and modern novels to realize realism. in addition, local dialects were used in hand-written books for the common people to read. thus, dialects responded positively to Chinese character culture.
Dialect researchers are still using dialects as a supplementary resource in linguistics research. he does not deal with dialects comprehensively, but deals with only a few of the dialects that suit his major. due to standard language-oriented language policies, people's perception of dialects has not changed. fortunately, the local people's perception has changed significantly since the municipality was implemented. the dialect was considered to be the representative culture of the region. in order to respond to reality and to study dialects, they must be connected with local culture. Therefore, a plan for joint research with local governments should be prepared.
The concept of standard language includes the concept of a common language that represents Korean. however, the current standard language of Korea is not enough to represent the vocabulary. this is because, above all, precise and comprehensive research on dialect vocabulary has not been conducted. it does not reveal what history the dialect vocabulary has, what rules are generated, and how it relates to the standard language. through a deep understanding and study of dialects, the common language characteristics of dialects should be found and put into standard language. for this purpose, the singular standard language policy must be changed around the multiple standard language policy. plural common languages should be expanded for the reunification of languages between South Korea, North Korea and Koreans.
The dialect explanations in Korean dictionaries are very weak. there are few meanings compared to standard words. it is difficult to understand from the user's point of view because it presents various dialects at once. new dialect dictionaries based on precise meaning and use should be established in cooperation with local governments. based on these dialect dictionaries, the national standard language should be selected. only in this way can we establish a common language that represents Korean.
