Literature texts are advanced and dynamic materials of foreign language education because literature is considered as a language art. In this vein, Korean literature texts can be a very powerful tool to teach foreign students Korean culture as well as to improve foreign learners' reading and writing skills. This paper explores some effective teaching strategies in the Korean culture class for foreign learners by employing the Korean literature text "A Guest in the Outer Room and Mother." First, since the text is a narrative story, we can designate a student as a narrator to tell the story. This narrative strategy can be also used for students to tell their own experiences in other areas such as music, art, movie, etc. Second, the theme or plot of the text can be used to improve students' writing skills. The main theme of the text is 'mother's love for the guest'. By using the theme 'love' or 'parting', we can let students write a letter or read a poem in the classroom. Third, the text can help students understand traditional Korean culture since the setting of the text is the earlier 20th century of Korea. Finally, after the text reading is completed, we can ask students to write a composition describing their impressions of the text.
