일본어 이중모음의 융합 －융합에 관한 기능적 관점－ (Coalescence in Japanese Diphthongs: From a functional perspective on coalescence conditions)

초록

本研究は、現代日本語における二重母音の融合の適用条件に関して分析することが目的である。母音融合は母音連続や二重母音のような有標の構造を回避するために起こる現象であるが、これは例外なく適用される現象ではない。 先行研究では、発話状況、性別、品詞、馴染み度,二重母音の種類などによって融合が非対称に適用されると述べている。本研究ではインフォーマルな発話における融合の振る舞いを調査するため、日本国立国語研究所が公開した「日本語日常会話コーパス（モニター公開版）」（CEJC）を対象に、コーパス検索アプリケーション「中納言」を利用し、融合が起こりやすい品詞の形容詞に現れる二重母音の/ai/・/oi/・/ui/の融合を調査した。その結果、先行研究の指摘通り、男性の融合型出現比率が高く、単語親密度と融合率はある程度関連性があることが分かった。そして二重母音の種類による融合を見ると、タイプ頻度上は[ai] > [oi] > [ui]の順で、トークン頻度上には[oi] > [ai] > [ui]の順で融合形が出現した。 このような融合型の出現には語彙の意味など様々な要因が考えられるが、本研究は音声の機能的観点に注目し、融合型出現の非対称性について議論する。 分散理論の観点から日本語の二重母音を見ると、二つの母音の聴覚的距離が広く分散されている組み合わせが最適な二重母音として認められているが、このような知覚の最大化を考慮した分散は、より多くの調音労力を必要とするため、より多くのエネルギーを使うことになる。日常会話というインフォーマルな発話では調音労力の最小化が働き、二重母音でより多くエネルギーを使う[ai]が最も多く融合するようになり、次に[oi] > [ui]の順に融合型が出現したと解釈できる。

영어초록

This paper analyzes the coalescence conditions in Japanese diphthongs. Vowel coalescence is a phenomenon that occurs to avoid a marked structure such as vowel hiatus or diphthong. It, however, is not the phenomenon that applies without exception. According to previous studies, it is discussed that coalescence is applied asymmetrically according to the speech styles, gender, part of speech, and word familiarity. In order to investigate the aspect of coalescence in casual speech, we investigated 'Corpus of Everyday Japanese Conversation (monitor edition)', and investigated the aspect of coalescence of diphthongs [ai], [oi], and [ui] in adjectives with a corpus search application 'Chunagon'. As a result, as pointed out in previous studies, it was found that the coalescence ratio of male speaker was high, and word familiarity was slightly related to coalescence. In addition, when looking at the coalescence according to the type of diphthong, the coalescences appeared in the order of '[ai] > [oi] > [ui]' in terms of type frequency and '[oi] > [ai] > [ui]' in terms of token frequency.
The emergence of such a fusion type may have various factors such as the lexical meaning, but we discussed the asymmetry of coalescence appearance by paying attention to the functional perspective of sounds. From the perspective of Dispersion Theory, the combination of the auditory distance between the two vowels is distributed as optimal diphthong, and dispersion maximizing the perception requires more energy. In informal speech such as everyday Japanese conversation, articulation efforts are minimized, so [ai], which uses more energy for formatting a diphthong, coalesces the most. And [oi] coalesces second most. Finally [ui] coalesces least.
