초록

우주의 미세한 입자, 눈으로 관찰되는 생명체, 나아가 커다란 우주계는 일정한 기하학의 코드에 따라 생겨나는 것을 관찰할 수 있다. 고대인들은 기하학의 패턴이 우리의 내면세계를 상징한다고 생각했다. 또한 이러한 신성 기하학의 경험을 영혼의 고양이라고 여겼다. 이러한 형태를 보고 명상하는 것은 우주정신의 지혜의 작용을 깊게 관조할 수 있게 한다. 얀뜨라는 이러한 신성 기하학의 일종으로 인도의 영적인 전통에서 사용되는 명상의 도구이다. 얀뜨라의 효과는 다이어그램의 정확성과 추상성에 비례하여 그 효과가 강력해진다. 얀뜨라는 초점이 있어 이것이 절대자로 이르는 창문이 된다. 얀뜨라는 특정한 에너지를 조준하는 메카니즘 또는 노정이 되고 공명의 과정을 유지하면서 확대된다. 이 내면 에너지는 얀뜨라 그 자체에서 오는 것이 아니라 대우주에서 온다. 원칙적으로 얀뜨라는 대우주의 유효한 에너지에 공명을 할 수 있게 하는 비밀의 열쇠이다. 흔히 얀뜨라는 우리를 고차원적인 에너지와 교감하게 하여 영적인 길에 무한한 도움을 준다. 얀뜨라 안에 있는 공간은 아무리 미세하다고 하더라도 상징적으로 표현되어 현존하는 것으로 태양계 안에 있는 공간만큼 무한한 존재로 표현된다. 이론적으로 공간은 불변하는 원리로서 얀뜨라의 공간 개념이 작용하지만 인간의 경험적 차원에서는 공간을 구분하여 초속계의 위치를 정한다. 도형의 경계를 그리는 것, 네 구획을 울타리 치는 것, 공간의 방향으로 얀뜨라의 성지 한계를 두는 것은 모두 신성의 공간을 드러내도록 하는 행위이다.
스리 얀뜨라는 랄리따여신의 정원으로 불린다. 랄리따는 뜨리뿌라 순다리, 락쉬미와 같이 모두 성모여신(Divine Mother)의 또 다른 표현이다. 아홉 개의 삼각형 중에서 위로 향하는 네 개의 삼각형은 시바 남성적 원리, 아래로 향하는 나머지 다섯 개의 삼각형은 샥띠 여성적 원리이다. 그리하여 스리 얀뜨라는 남성적인 신성과 여성적인 신성의 합일을 나타낸다. 아홉 개의 삼각형으로 이루어졌기 때문에 나와요니 짜끄라(Navayoni Cakra)라고도 불린다.
삼각형과 삼각형의 피라미드는 우리를 압도하지 못하도록 부정적인 에너지를 감소시키거나 막아내는 막대한 긍정적인 에너지를 가지고 있다. 우리는 모든 경배의 장소가 본질적으로 삼각형의 피라미드 구조라는 것을 안다. 스리 얀뜨라는 삼각형을 사용하여 가장 강력하고 가장 높은 수준까지 정신을 고양시킨다. 평면구조에서는 9개의 삼각형이 서로 맞물린 형태이다. 스리 얀뜨라에서 (Meru)라고 부르는 입체구조는 다수의 피라미드 삼각형의 격자 구조인데 무한한 풍요와 긍정적인 힘을 말한다. 스리 얀뜨라는 모든 얀뜨라 중에서 가장 강력한 것으로 시바-샥띠(Śiva-Śakti)의 장엄을 나타낸다. 시바-샥띠의 난해한 우주론적 형이상학적 이론을 도형으로 종합한 스리 얀뜨라는 우주창조의 진화 도표로 읽을 수 있어서 단계별로 창조의 카테고리를 드러낸다. 어떻게 무형에서 유형으로 창조과정이 일어나는지를 보여준다. 삶의 대립적인 원리들이 시바-샥띠의 통일적인 근원에서 생겨나 분화된다. 스리 얀뜨라는 우주진화의 모든 단계를 나타내고 창조과정과 모든 환원의 노정도 명확하게 표현하고 있다.

영어초록

Yantras are, first of all, believed to reveal the inner basis of the forms and shapes abounding in the universe. Just as, whatever the outer structure, all matter is made of an intrinsic basic unity, the atom, so each aspect of the world can be seen in its structural form as a yantra. As th scientist sees in the final picture of the world in the orderly, simple, atomic structures in which certain primal shapes appear as a harmonized ‘whole’, so the Indian shilpi-yogins(makers of ritual art) seek to identify the innermost structure of the universe by concentrating the variegated picture of world-appearances through intense yogic vision into simple form-equations. A yantra, then, can be considered an ultimate form-equation of a specific energy manifesting in the world. These simple form-equations are held to epitomize the real nature of the cosmos as abstracted from the concrete.
Yantra is cosmic conductor of infinite energy. Through Yantra invisible sources of energy are made to work for to remove malefic effects of planets and to enhance their positive effects. In other words, Yantra aim at concentration of power of Deity at single place through which peace can be achieved on one-hand and evil effects can be destroyed on other. A yantra must have to be energized with a mantra so that it starts working. The yantra itself is like the body, while the mantra used is the soul. So until and unless the yantra is energized or activated with the particular mantra, it will do nothing, The mantra to energize a yantra is called, ‘Siddhi mantra’. The Siddhi mantra is what makes the yantra alive, so it starts working. By resonance, a certain energy from the practitioner’s Microcosm vibrates on same wavelength with the corresponding infinite energy present in the Macrocosm, energy which is represented in the physical plane by the Yantra. The yantra is an archetypal unity, and in the making of every new yantra the archetypal activity and the divine revelations repeat themselves. Each yantra’s consecrated place acts as a dwelling for the gods, a space where movement from the level of profane existence to the level of profound realities is made possible. Symbol and meaning blend so closely that they are one reality, indistinguishable from one another. Every yantra creates a power-field, a cosmicized circuit(kshetra) in which the powers of the sacred are invoked. The lines and planes localized within the yantra, through distinct from all the spaces the surround its outer circuit, are an expression of a transcendental reality. Stretching from star to star the ultimate substratum of all forms is spaces. Empty space is in itself a primordial substance and shares in the nature of divinity.
The Śri Yantra, or Yantra of Creation, originated in our pre-history. It has been known in the Hindu and buddhist traditions and since the Vedic times as the powerful and mystically beautiful of all yantras(geometric mandalas known as power diagrams). It represents the timeless creative principle of the universe, the continuous unfoldment of all realms creation from the central source, and with that mindfulness, it is used as an object of meditation. The Śri Yantra is a magnificent representation in a complex and intricate geometric pattern of the cosmic magnetic fields. The word yantra in the Tantric tradition refers to the Goddess or Devi in her linear of geometrical form. A five thousand year old Tantric symbol of India, it is the most auspicious of all yantras, the most perfect and the most complete. It is the abode and form pattern of the Goddess Lalitā and represents the union of Śiva-Śake(male and female elements) in macrocosmic and microcosmic aspects, in the cosmos and in the individual. “Lalitā” is the shortened form of Lalitai-ambrika, meaning the Playful One. Her play consists of creation, sustentation and dissolution of the universe and also the lifting of devotees from Samsara(cycles of birth and death). She is the Universal Spiritual Energy and at one with the Supreme Being. The word Śri(Shree or Shri) si another aspect or representation of the Divine Mother also known as lalita, Tripursundaī or Lakshmi. This bearutiful geometrical form is used and worshipped to attract prosperity, happiness, success in worldly affairs and general food fortune and abundance.
In “Lalitā’s Garden”, the divine is represented by the most powerful of all Tantric yantras believed to be over five thousand years old. The five triangles pointing down are the feminine; the four triangles pointing up are the masculine. They intersect in the center at “bindu”(the seed of the entire universe). In bindu, Śiva and Śakti remain diagrammatically in eternal sacred union. The opposing sets of triangles represent the male and female principles which form creation, themselves being recognized as expressions of the polarity inherent in the creative force of the bindu. The surrounding geometries represent the realms of creation, entirely supported by the creative process, and which would have no reality whatsoever without the omnipresence of the transcendental source.
It is the most powerful geometrical design based on nine triangles. Four triangles point upward(Śiva triangle or male energy) and five downward(Śakti or female energy). combination nine triangles make Śri yantra the most dynamic of all Yantras. Triangles and triangular pyramids have tremendous positive powers in mitigating and preventing the negative from overwhelming us. We will always find that all our places of worship essentially have triangular pyramid structure. We can see any Church, Mosque, Synagogue or Temple which all have triangular pyramid structure. We will find that the moment we enter these places of worship we feel a sense of tranquility, peace and worship even today.
Man’s spiritual journey from the stage of material existence to ultimate enlightenment is mapped on the Śri Yantra. The spiritual journey is taken as a pilgrimage in which every step is an ascent to the center, a movement beyond one’s limited existence, and every level is nearer to the goal. Each of the circuits of the Śri Yantra, from the outer plane to the bindu(the center), corresponds with one of the stages of the spiritual journey. The goal of contemplating the Śri Yantra is that the adept can rediscover his primordial sources. The circuits symbolically indicate the successive phases in the process of becoming. Śri yantra is one of the most auspicious, important and powerful Yantras. Its archetypal form is a ladder of spiritual ascent for the seeker. Viewed from the center outwards, the Śri Yantra is a diagram of the Hindu vision of the evolution of the cosmos.
