유아동의 사회적 의사소통장애 조기 발견을 위한 소셜 로봇 활용성 검증 (Verification of the Usability of Social Robots for Early Detection of Social Communication Disorders in Young Children)

초록

사회적 의사소통장애(Social Communication Disorder) 는 2013년 DSM-5(Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 정신질환 진단 및 통계 매뉴얼) 에 새롭게 포함되었다. 사회적 의사소통장애 유아동은화용언어 사용에 문제가 있어서 대인관계에 어려움을겪으며 이러한 현상은 성인이 되어서도 지속된다. 따라서 유아동의 경우 사회적 의사소통장애를 조기에발견하여 적정한 치료와 교육을 받는 것이 필요하다.
본 연구는 소셜 로봇을 활용하여 사회적 의사소통장애가 있는 유아동을 조기에 발견할 수 있는지를 검증하는 것을 목적으로 진행되었다.
동화 기반 대화 시나리오를 작성하여 전문가 검증을 거쳐 최종 시나리오를 완성 후, 4～7세의 일반 유아동 4명과 사회적 의사소통장애가 있는 유아동 4명을 대상으로 실험을 진행하였다. 두 집단의 유아동이소셜 로봇과 진행한 대화를 화용언어능력 평가항목인대화 중단 횟수, 장문 구사 능력, 감정 단어 사용 횟수를 기준으로 비교 분석하였다.
결과적으로 사회적 의사소통장애 유아동은 일반 유아동에 비해 대화 중단 횟수가 3배 이상 높게 나타났다. 또한 장문 구사 능력에 해당하는 낱말수의 경우 4 배 이상 낮게 나타났으며, 감정 단어 사용 횟수 역시4배 이상 낮게 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 소셜 로봇과의 대화를 통해서도 사회적 의사소통장애가 있는 유아동을 조기에 발견하는 것이 가능함을 시사한다. 소셜 로봇과의 대화 데이터는 유아동의 사회적 의사소통장애의 문제점을 객관적으로 분석하는 데 활용될수 있으며, 이를 통해 초기에 전문가의 치료와 교육을유도할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

영어초록

Social Communication Disorder was newly included in DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) in 2013. Infant children with social communication disorder have difficulties in interpersonal relationships because they have problems using pragmatic language, and this phenomenon persists into adulthood. Therefore, in the case of infant children, it is necessary to detect social communication disorder at an early stage and receive appropriate treatment and education. The purpose of this study was to verify whether infants with social communication disorder can be detected early by using social robots.
After writing a fairy tale-based conversation scenario and completing it through expert verification, the experiment was conducted with 4 normal children and 4 children with social communication disabilities aged 3～7 years. Conversations with social robots conducted by two groups of infant children were analyzed based on the number of conversation interruptions, the ability of long sentences, and the number of emotional words used, which are the evaluation items of pragmatic language ability.
As a result, the number of interruptions in conversation was more than three times higher in children with social communication disorder than the normal children. In addition, the number of words corresponding to the ability of long sentences was more than four times lower, and the frequency of using emotional words was also more than four times lower.
These results suggest that it is possible to detect children with social communication disorder at an early stage even through conversation with social robots.
Conversation data with social robots can be used to objectively analyze the social communication disorder in infant children, and it is expected that it will lead to professional treatment and education in the early stages.
