초록

‘코로나19’ 의 재난 상황은 교회의 취약점들을 명확히 드러냈다. 첫째, 1차 대유행의 발단이 된 신천지 이단의 규모와 급속한 성장은, 정통교회가 그동안 ‘새 하늘과 새 땅’ 의 종말론적 복음을 외면한 채 축소되고 왜곡된 세속적 복음을 전해왔다는 사실을 반증했다. 둘째, 방역조치가 시행되면서 발발한 ‘대면 예배, 비대면 예배’에 대한 논쟁은, 그간 교회가 ‘예배당’에 치중하면서 교회의 본질을 잃었다는 지적을 불러일으켰다. 셋째, 2차, 3차 대유행의 진원지로 논란이 된 일부 교회나 관련 단체들은 교회에 대한 사회적 비난과 적대감을 증대시켰다.
‘코로나19’ 와 관련된 이 세 가지 상징적 사건들은, 이제 한국교회가 ‘코스모스’ 세상 을 맞닥뜨리고 있고 이런 도전을 단순히 기독교세계관이나 공공신학이라는 이론적 차원에서뿐만 아니라, 성경 해석과 신학, 목회와 설교, 신앙과 삶의 차원에서 구체적으로 다루어야 할 필요성을 제기한다. 신약성경에서 공동서신은 ‘코스모스를 맞닥뜨린 교회’라는 주제로 묶일 수 있는 정경모음집이고, 교회는 공동서신을 통해 ‘세상을 맞닥뜨린 교회’를 위한 복음의 재해석, 교회론, 윤리, 그리고 기독교교육적 함의를 찾을 수 있다.
하지만 세상을 맞닥뜨린 교회의 해법을 공동서신에서 찾으려면, 신약 성경 내에서라도 의도적인 ‘정경적 전환과 확장’ 이 필요하다. 한국교회는 종교개혁의 전통을 이어받아 주로 바울서신에 의존해서 그 신학적, 교회론적, 윤리적 지침을 얻어왔다. 바울서신과 공동서신은 신약의 정경으로서 각기 고유한 가치와 역할을 갖고 있으며, 서로 충돌하지 않고 보완하며 조화를 이루어 교회의 온전한 신앙(regula fidei)을 형성한다. 초기교회에서 바울서신은 ‘주로’ 유대교(Judaism)를 상대해서 복음과 교회론을 해석한 서신들이고, 공동서신은 대체로 로마(Rome)로 대변되는 ‘코스모스’를 상대로 복음과 교회론을 해석한 서신들로 볼 수 있다.
이 논문은, 코로나19 상황을 지나면서 ‘코스모스’를 상대하게된 교회는, 결국 요한일서의 ‘코이노니아’의 생명신학(生命神學)에서 절정을 이루는 공동서신의 신학을 기반으로 그 적실한 해법을 찾을 수 있다고 주장한다. ‘삼위 하나님과의 영원한 생명의 코이노니아’(요한서신)로부터 세상을 이기는 신적성품(베드로후서), 선한 행실(베드로전서), 위로부터 오는 종말의 지혜(야고보서)를 얻을 수 있기 때문이다. 또한 ‘코이노니아’를 구성하는 만남, 사귐, 나눔의 요소들은, 기독교교육에 있어서 지식, 성품, 역량 형성에 있어서 새로운 단서들을 제공할 수 있다.

영어초록

The corona-19 pandemic, did not created but exposed the weakest areas of the Korean churches. First, the shocking growth of the heresy Sincheonji(新天地) proves that the Korean church has neglected the eschatological nature of the Kingdom Gospel while pursuing some distorted secular version of it. Second, the issue of the ‘face-to-face’ or ‘non face-to-face’ worship raised a serious question as to what the church really is the building or the saints? Third, the misbehaviour of few churches and some institutions related to the church augmented the hostility toward the church by the majority of the citizens in our society.
The three incidents illustrated above demonstrate the unavoidable fact that the Korean churches are severly facing the cosmos(‘world’). To overcome this kind of challenge, some theoretic approaches such as the Christian world-view movement or public theology, though helpful, would fail to reach out to the average members of the church. It is the living word of God, the Scripture, that creates the church. The vision and strategies must be preached from the pulpit to the saints in their daily life situations. The Catholic Epistles is the cannonical collection that suits this critical and urgent need for the church facing the world. The Catholic Epistles can provide the reinterpretation of the Gospel, the nature and shape of the church and the integral strategies and guidelines for Christian education as well, especially for the ‘church facing the cosmos.’ However, at this stage of the matter, we need to switch the gear for the cannonical expansion within the Scripture, from Pauline corpus to Catholic Epistles. As the neglected part of the New Testament canon, the Catholic Epistles can contribute to the Korean church in her overcoming the Cosmos. While the Pauline presentation of the Gospel can be seen as the outcome from the Apostle Paul’s struggling and debating with the ‘Judaism’, the Catholic Epistles as the outcome from the Apostles of Jerusalem struggling and overcoming the cosmos, ‘Rome’ at that time.
Therefore, the Korean church, severely facing the world after corona19 outbreak, can find the suitable strategies from the Catholic Epistles in which the ‘koinonia with the Triune God’ marks the climax of its theology. From this ‘koinonia’, overflows altogether the divine character-building (2 Peter), doing good works from renewed conscience (1 Peter) and the wisdom from above (James). Furthermore, the critical elements of the ‘koinonia’ provide some refreshing clues to the Christian education in the areas of knowledge, character, and competency.
