초록

이 논문은 조선후기 향촌사회사 겸 순천지방사 연구의 일환으로 쓰여진 것이다. 기존의 연구를 통해서도 임란 전후의 순천역 재지사족의 성분과 그 대체적인 존재양태를 밝힌 연구결과는 있었다. 그러나 그들의 경제적 기반이나 토지소유의 실상에 관련된 연구는 전무하였다. 그런데 최근에 1680年記 경주정씨가의 분재기와 財主 정빈의 告身敎旨類 문서들이 발굴됨에 따라 부분적이나마 그 가문의 사회경제적 배경에 대하여 살펴볼 수 있게 되었다. 따라서 본고는 1680년기 분재기를 분석하여, 유관 고문서 및 관련자료들을 아울러 검토함으로써 17세기 순천지역의 사족사회에서 차지하는 경주정씨가의 사회 경제적 기반에 대하여 살펴보았다.
16세기초 남원으로부터 순천에 來入한 경주정씨가는 임진왜란을 거친 뒤 재지사족으로서 확고한 기반을 구축한 대표적인 예였다. 임진왜란이 일어나자 일가의 형제·子姪들이 관내의 전라좌수영에 자진종군하여 집단적인 의병운동을 전개함으로써 모두 뚜렷한 군공을 세웠다. 그들에게는 공훈에 따른 관직이 제수되었고, 그 중에서도 몇 차례의 지방관을 역임한 정빈의 경우에 임란 이후 정씨가문의 중추적인 인물이었다. 그는 600두락(약 30결)이 넘는 전답과 50여구에 달하는 노비를 상속재산으로 남겨 손자 3형제에게 均分하였다. 전답과 노비의 대부분은 조상전래의 재산으로 보이지만, 남원지역에 소재한 전답 133두락의 토지는 정빈의 母邊傳來 재산이었다. 외조부모 봉사조의 전답을 제외한 토지, 즉 순천관내 10개 지역과 남원부 2개지역에 흩어진 전답들을 작게는 1束 단위까지 나누어 평분하였다.
정빈의 가계를 중심으로 한 17세기 순천지역의 경주정씨가문은 임진왜란 7년전쟁에서 세운 화려한 전공과 안정된 경제력을 바탕으로 확고한 사회적 기반을 갖출 수 있었다. 따라서 난후에 작성된 향안에는 문중의 유력한 인사들이 대를 이어 입록되었을 뿐만 아니라 향중 유력가문들과의 통혼권을 형성, 순천지역 명문사족으로서의 위치를 견지하였다고 생각된다.

영어초록

This study was to investigate social history of local areas as well as Suncheon in the late Choson Dynasty. The previous studies were primarily focused on the research of local aristocratic family in Suncheon and an aspect of their existence before and after Imjin-War(壬亂). But studies on economic foundation or real situation of landholding has not be done.
Recently, documents of Gyungju Jung family`s sharing properties written in 1680s and appointment letters of Jung-Bin were found out, which made it possible for us to look into his family`s social and economic background.
That is to say, this study investigated the documents of sharing properties(和會文記) of the 1680s and the related ancient documents in order to examine social and economic foundation of Gyungju Jung family(慶州鄭氏家) in Suncheon local aristocratic family society in the 17th century.
In the early 16th century, Gyungju Jung family who moved from NamWon to Suncheon, established the firm foundation as a local aristocratic family after the Japanese invasion of Korea, in which many members of his family volunteered for military service at Jeolla Jwasoo-Young(全羅左水營). They deployed loyal troops movement as a group and they performed brilliant exploits at the battle. Their achievement enabled them to attain a local government position
Among them, Jung-Bin who has consecutively filled local officials played a important role in his family after the war. He bequeathed about 600 parches of fields including about 50 servants to his three grandsons. His all inheritance was equally distributed to his three grandsons.
We found that 333 parches of fields in NamWon area originally belonged to Jung-Bin`s ones inherited from his mother sides, while the rest of assets were inherited from their ancestors. Except fields to perform the religious service for his mother's parents, his fields located in 10 countrysides, Suncheon and 2 countrysides, NamWon were evenly shared by calculating till the unit of a sok(束) in a small way.
In the 17th century, Gyungju Jung family in Suncheon could build a solid social foundation on the basis of the exploit of the war and stable economic strength. These local documents written after Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592 revealed that talented figures from the Jung family had been registered in Hyang-An(鄕案), and as they had a close relationship with local aristocratic families through a way of marriage, they strengthen their foundation as a local noble family.
