초록

인공지능 기술이 발전하면서 이제는 그 영역이 글쓰기까지 확대되었다. 인공지능 글쓰기는 기존의 작가-독자라는 고정된 관계를 넘어 누구든 제약 없이 자유롭게 글을 쓸 수 있는 미래를 꿈꾸게 만들었다. 하지만 이에 대한 반론도 만만치 않다. 미국 할리우드 작가들의 대규모 파업에서 볼 수 있듯이 인공지능을 통한 글쓰기는 기존의 작가들에게 생계를 위협하는 것으로도 인식된다.
그럼에도 빅테크 기업들의 주도하에 인공지능 기술이 날로 발전함에 따라 언젠가는 인간의 사고와 감정 표현 방식 또한 이전의 글쓰기와는 달라질 수도 있을 것이다. 따라서 인공지능 글쓰기 방식과 그로 인해 생산되는 텍스트들이 앞으로 인간의 감정과 사고를 어떻게 이끌어낼 것인지 논의해야 할 시점이다.
박금산의 장편소설 『AI가 쓴 소설』은 인공지능 글쓰기를 둘러싼 다양한 질문들을 제시한다. 작중에서 인공지능 글쓰기 기술은 주인공인 소설가가 창작 행위 자체에 대한 본질적인 질문을 떠올리게 하면서, 동시에 앞으로 인간의 삶을 어떻게 서사로 써나갈 것인가에 대해 생각하게 만든다. 그동안 당연한 것으로 여겼을 글쓰기라는 행위가 인공지능이라는 새로운 기술의 등장에 의해 다시 재고되는 것이다.
인공지능 글쓰기 기술은 필연적으로 그것을 생산하고 관리하는 기업이 주체일 수밖에 없다. 빅테크 기업이 기술 개발과 관리를 독점하는 구조에서 인공지능 글쓰기는 자칫 플랫폼 노동으로 전락할 우려도 있다. 기술의 발전의 이면에는 당시 그것을 개발했던 인간의 불완전한 면모가 숨겨져 있다. 선의든 악의든 어떤 의도로 기술이 만들어지든 간에 그 기술은 시행착오를 거치며 지금까지 온 것이고, 앞으로도 변모해 나갈 것이다.
기술의 발전이 어떤 결과로 이어질지는 당장 예측하기 어렵다. 그럼에도 인공지능 글쓰기의 기술적 발전은 결국 작가의 정체성을 되물어야 하는 지점과 맞닿아 있다. 더 정교한 서비스를 개발하기 위한 기업에 의해 동원되는 것이 아니라, 오히려 스스로 효율보다는 비효율로, 예측 가능한 것보다는 그렇지 않은 쪽을 선택하고자 하는 작가들의 움직임을 자주 보게 되는 요즘이다. 인공지능 글쓰기의 문제는 앞으로 우리에게 다양한 선택지를 제시할 것이다.

With the progression of artificial intelligence technology, its application has expanded into the realm of writing. AI-generated writing envisions a future where unrestricted and free writing becomes accessible to everyone, transcending the conventional writer-reader relationship. Nevertheless, compelling counterarguments exist. The significant strike led by Hollywood writers in the United States illustrates that AI writing is perceived as a potential threat to the livelihoods of current writers.
However, with artificial intelligence technology advancing daily under the guidance of major tech companies, the manner in which humans think and express their emotions may eventually diverge from traditional writing practices. Consequently, it is timely to explore how artificial intelligence writing methods and the resulting texts will evoke human emotions and thoughts in the future.
Park Geum-san's full-length novel, 'Novel Written by AI,' raises numerous questions about artificial intelligence writing. In this work, the protagonist, a novelist, is prompted by AI writing technology to contemplate fundamental questions about the nature of creation. Simultaneously, it compels him to reflect on how to depict human lives in narrative form in the future. The fundamental act of human writing, long taken for granted, is lately under reconsideration due to the advent of a new technology known as artificial intelligence.
Any artificial intelligence writing technology is inevitably steered by the company responsible for its production and management. Concerns arise regarding the potential reduction of artificial intelligence writing to a form of platform work within a structure where major tech companies monopolize technology development and management. The advancement of a technology conceals imperfect aspects of the human developers at the time of its creation. Regardless of the initial intentions—whether made in good or bad faith—technology has progressed through trial and error and will undoubtedly continue to evolve in the future.
Predicting the precise outcomes of technological advancements is challenging. However, the continual development of artificial intelligence writing inevitably raises questions about the author's identity. These days, we observe a trend among artists who, rather than being driven by corporate demands for more efficient services, intentionally opt for inefficiency and the unpredictable. The challenges posed by artificial intelligence writing will offer us a range of possibilities for the future.
