초록

The study aims to analyze psycholinguistic word properties in Korean EFL learners’ spoken language. It focuses on exploring deeper levels of EFL learners’ lexical usage by examining five psycholinguistic features: familiarity, concreteness, imageability, meaningfulness from the Medical Research Council (MRC), and Kuperman’s Age of Acquisition (AoA). For this, the study utilizes the Korean spoken monologue sub-corpus from the International Corpus Network of Asian Learners of English (ICNALE). The extraction of the five indices is conducted through TAALES 2.0, a Natural Language Processing (NLP) tool, and is subsequently compared with the indices of native speakers. The findings reveal distinctions within the advanced learner group compared to other groups, illustrating the use of lower-scored words in the four MRC indices and higher-scored words in the AoA index. These results can be instrumental in automatically assessing vast amounts of learner language and increasing awareness of the psycholinguistic properties of words.
