초록

이제까지 신제품개발과 하이테크 마케팅연구에서 대부분의 연구들은 대기업을 중심으로 한 주류시장 확장에 대한 연구였다. 본 연구는 첨단기술을 개발하는 중소 벤처기업에 초점을 두어 기술상용화 과정에서 초기시장을 개척하는 데 어떠한 요인들을 고려해야하는가를 밝히는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 기업가정신과 기술상용화과정을 이론적으로 파악하고, 자원이 적은 중소벤처기업이 기술과 시장 양 측에서 어떠한 불확실성에 직면할 수 있으며, 이를 극복하기 위해서는 어떠한 요인들을 고려해야하는 가를 이론적으로 탐색하여 초기시장 개척에 관심을 두고 있는 기업가와 경영자들에게 이론적으로 도움을 주고자 하였다.
본 연구는 초기시장개척에 고려해야하는 요인들에 관한 이론적 탐색을 기반으로 대전의 강소기업으로 평가받는 창신정보통신(주)에서 개발한 신제품의 초기시장 개척 사례에 적용함으로써 실무적인 응용에 주력하였다. 초점집단인터뷰를 통한 정성적연구를 통해 기업과 관련된 주요 인사들이 이러한 요인들에 대해서 어떻게 생각하고 있는지를 파악하였다.
이러한 초기시장에 대한 고려는 제품수명주기에서 초기 성공에 대한 고려를 통해 지속적인 성장을 유도하기 위한 미래연구를 남겨두고 있다.

영어초록

This paper investigates which factors influence the success of new products in thedevelopment of initial market. We sought for related theories from the research traditions ofmanagement and marketing for high technology and innovation, and applied them to thedevelopment of initial market in a small and medium sized venture corporation.
Theoretical issues are follows: entrepreneurship, commercialization of technology, uncertaintyin technology and market, and diffusion of innovations. The initial stage in the product lifecycle must be managed well for the continuous success of growth, mature, and decline phases.
The success in the initial market will promote the extensive diffusion toward mainstreammarket and change consumers' consumption pattern. Entrepreneurs in initial market faceuncertainty in technology and market. To cope with uncertainty in initial market, It is essentialfor them to understand the difference in consumer response in the initial market, to emphasizeperceived entrepreneurship in the B2G and B2B relationships by using social capital throughsocial networks. To overcome technology uncertainty, entrepreneurs must create whole productsin the continuum of innovation, determine the proper launching time, and reduce risks ofcompetition with new-fashioned products.
To overcome market uncertainty, entrepreneurs must define consumer needs in the initialmarket, create networks with potential customers, and predict the speed of diffusion.
Through a qualitative study, the importance of following issues was confirmed: the connectionbetween perceived entrepreneurship and innovation, the penetration stage from B2G and B2Bto B2C, the advantage of publicity, the advantage of extensive use of social networks.
It will complement research on the high technology marketing to understand which factorsinfluence the development of initial market for new products which small and medium sizedventure corporations have developed. Because it is difficult to generalize theories with a casestudy, it is necessary to develop a universal understanding for this area by measuring andinvestigating factors to overcome uncertainty with empirical data.
