百濟 橫穴式石室의 登場과 擴散 (A Study on the Emergence and Establishment of Baekje's corridor stone chamber tombs)

초록

백제 횡혈식석실의 기원은 단일 기원으로 그 다양성을 충분히 설명하기 어렵다는 문제의식 아래, 본고에서는 다중 기원의 관점으로 백제 횡혈식석실의 등장과 정착 그리고 확산 양상을 살펴보았다.
먼저 백제 횡혈식석실은 석촌동 4호 적석총의 매장주체부 축조를 기점으로 처음 등장한 것으로 판단된다. 또 석촌동 4호 적석총은 시기적으로 석촌동 3호 적석총과 큰 차이 없는 4세기 3/4분기 무렵 왕릉으로 축조된 것으로 추정된다. 그리고 이와 유사한 사례가 고구려 통구지역의 적석총에 서 확인되는 만큼, 백제 횡혈식석실의 기원은 고구려 적석총에서 찾을 수 있을 것이다. 다만 석촌 동 4호 적석총을 제외하고 석축 봉분과 매장주체부로 횡혈계 묘제가 결합된 사례가 백제 강역에서 확인되지 않는다는 점은 백제 최초의 횡혈식석실이 특정 계층에 한정되었고 정착까지 이르지 못하였음을 시사한다.
다음으로 서북한 지역의 초기 횡혈식석실인 남정리 119호분과 서울 가락동 및 방이동고분군의 횡혈식석실은 축조 재료 및 구조적 측면에서 상당히 유사하여 양자 간의 연관성을 상정할 수 있다. 이와 달리 가락동 및 방이동고분군과 석촌동 4호 적석총 간 축조 시점 및 구조적 차이점은 양자 간 직접적인 친연성이 미미하였음을 알 수 있다. 또 가락동 및 방이동고분군에서는 석촌동 4호 적 석총과 달리 다수의 석실이 축조되었고, 가락동 및 방이동고분군의 석실처럼 토축 봉분과 매장주 체부로 횡혈식석실을 지닌 분묘가 일반적인 백제 횡혈식석실로 자리한 점은 상기 고분군이 백제 횡혈식석실의 본격적인 정착에 중요한 역할을 한 것으로 해석할 수 있다. 이 밖에 석실의 본격적인 정착은 4세기 후엽 近肖古王 시기의 대방 고지 경영과 낙랑 및 대방 출신 이주민의 유입이 결정적인 요인이었던 것으로 판단된다.
마지막으로 하남 감일동 및 성남 판교동유적은 장제 및 구조적 측면에서 중국 동진 전실의 영향을 받은 사례로 볼 수 있다. 하지만 서울 석촌동 또는 가락동 및 방이동고분군에 비해 축조시점이 늦고 동일한 장제와 묘제를 가진 사례가 희소한 점은 하남 감일동 및 성남 판교동유적의 석실이 백제 횡혈식석실의 기원 또는 정착과 거리가 멀었던 것으로 추정된다. 한편 이들 유적은 지리 적으로 백제 중앙지역과 인접하고 선행 묘제 또는 경제적 기반이 되는 생활유적이 없다는 점에서 토착계 집단이 아닌 당시 백제 중앙에 편입되어 대중국 교섭에 활용된 낙랑 또는 대방 고지 출신 집단을 위한 묘역였던 것으로 추정된다.

영어초록

Recognizing the limitations of explaining the diversity of Baekje’s corridor stone chamber tombs through a single-origin theory, this study examines the emergence, establishment, and diffusion of these tombs from a multi-origin perspective.
First, Baekje’s corridor stone chamber tombs are believed to have first appeared with the construction of the burial chamber in Seokchon-dong Tomb No. 4. This tomb is estimated to have been constructed as a royal tomb around the third quarter of the 4th century, contemporaneously with Seokchon-dong Tomb No. 3. Similar examples found in the stone- piled tombs of the Goguryeo Tonggu region suggest that the origin of Baekje’s corridor stone chamber tombs can be traced to Goguryeo stone-piled tombs. However, the absence of other examples combining stone-piled mounds and corridor stone chambers within Baekje territory implies that the first corridor stone chamber tombs were limited to specific elite groups and did not achieve widespread adoption.
Next, the early corridor stone chamber tombs of northwestern Korea, such as Namjeong-ri Tomb No. 119, exhibit significant structural and material similarities to the corridor stone chamber tombs in the Garak-dong and Bangi-dong burial clusters in Seoul. These similarities suggest a potential connection between the two. However, differences in construction timing and structural characteristics between Garak-dong, Bangi-dong burial clusters, and Seokchon- dong Tomb No. 4 imply a minimal direct relationship between them. Nevertheless, unlike Seokchon-dong Tomb No. 4, the Garak-dong and Bangi-dong burial clusters contain multiple stone chambers. The structural elements of these clusters, such as earth-covered mounds and corridor stone chamber tombs, became standard features of Baekje’s corridor stone chamber tombs, indicating that these burial clusters played a significant role in the broader dissemination of this tomb type. This diffusion process is thought to have been significantly influenced by the governance of The former territory of Daebang during the late 4th century under King Geunchogo and the migration of people from Nakrang and Daebang.
Finally, the burial sites of Gamildong in Hanam and Pangyo in Seongnam exhibit elements of Dong-Jin Dynasty(東晉) burial chambers in terms of both mortuary practices and structural features. However, these sites were constructed later than those in Seokchon-dong, Garak- dong, and Bangi-dong, and similar examples within the same mortuary and structural framework are scarce. This suggests that corridor stone chambers at Gamildong and Pangyo are not directly connected to the origin or diffusion of Baekje’s corridor stone chamber tombs. Instead, their proximity to Baekje’s central region and the absence of preceding burial traditions or economic base-related residential sites indicate that these tombs were burial grounds for groups from Nakrang or Daebang incorporated into Baekje's central administration and used for diplomatic relations with Dong-Jin Dynasty(東晉).
