『韓國海洋詩集』의 의의와 시적 특징 연구 (A Study on the Significance and Poetic Characteristics of Korean Maritime Poems)

초록

본고는 해군(海軍) 본부정훈감실(本部政訓監室)에서 간행한 시집, 『韓國海洋詩集』(1953. 8)을 연구 텍스트로 한 논문이다. 해군이 이 시집을 발간한 배경을 살펴보고, 시적 특징과 시사(詩史)적 의의를 찾는 것이 그 목적이다.
본 논문에서 다룬, 『한국해양시집』은 한국 최초의 해양시집이라는 점과 제재 중심으로 출판된 당시 몇 번째 안 되는 시집이라는 점에서 시사(詩史)적인 의의를 지닌다. 또한 해군에서 출간한 시집으로, 전쟁시는 아니지만 해군이 바다에 대한 정서적인 측면을 느끼게 하고, 해양정신을 일깨우는데 목적이 있었다.
전체 시를 유형화한 결과, 그 시적 특징으로 첫째 해군을 연상하게 하는 바다이다. 대부분 전쟁 이전의 시 작품이기는 하지만, 해군에서 출간하는 책이라는 점을 인식하고 시를 수록했음을 일부 작품과 서문에서 확인할 수 있다. 둘째 영해(嶺海)로서 바다이다. 동해나 삼면의 바다에 대한 이미지는 민족과 국가의 영원성과 바다를 영토의 연장으로서도, 역사적으로도 중요하다는 인식이 드러난다. 셋째 개인적 추억의 바다로 특히 그리움이나 외로움이 주로 형상화되었다. 이는 시집에서 가장 많은 편수를 차지하며, 바다에 대한 개인적인 추억과 함께 정서적인 측면과 감수성이 드러난다. 해군들에게는 정서적인 공감을 준다고 할 수 있다. 넷째 역동성과 생명력을 지닌 바다의 특징이 드러난다. 바다가 지닌 가장 원초적인 힘이다.
한편 『한국해양사』에 수록된, 최남선의 「序에 代하야」의 글은 바다의 중요성을 강조한 글이다. 당시 『한국해양시집』과 『해양소설집』 출간에 이은 이 책은 해양국가로서 해군의 위치를 좀 더 대내외적으로 확고하게 자리매김하기 위한 해군의 기획적 전략이라고도 읽을 수 있다. 본고는 『한국해양시집』을 최초로 연구한 논문이라는 점에 의미가 있다.

영어초록

This is a paper based on the Korean Maritime Poems(1953.8) published by the Naval Headquarters Office. Its purpose is to examine the background of the Navy’s publication of this collection of poems and to find the poetic characteristics and the historical significance of the poems.
The Korean Maritime Poems, dealt with in this thesis, has historical significance in that it is the first collection of maritime poetry in Korea and is one of the few collections of poetry published at the time focusing on the subject matter. It is also a collection of poems published by the Navy, not a war poem, but was intended to make the Navy feel the emotional aspect of the sea and to awaken the spirit of the sea.
As a result of typifying the whole poem, its poetic characteristic, the first is the sea reminiscent of the navy. Although most of them are pre-war poetry works, it can be seen in some works and the introduction that they included poetry in recognition that it was a collection of poems published by the Navy. Second, it is the sea as a territorial sea. The image of the East Sea or the sea on three sides reveals the permanence of the nation and the state and the recognition that the sea is important both as an extension of territory and historically. Third, as a sea of personal memories, longing and loneliness were mainly embodied. It occupies the largest number of poems in the collection of poems, revealing emotional aspects and sensibility along with personal memories of the sea. It can be said that it gives emotional empathy to the navy. Fourth, the characteristics of the sea with dynamism and vitality are revealed. It is the most primitive power of the sea.
Meanwhile, Choi Nam-seon’s essay included in Korea Maritime History, emphasizes the importance of the sea. At that time, following the publication of Korean Maritime Poems and Marine Novels, this book can also be read as a naval planning strategy to firmly establish the position of the navy as a maritime nation both internally and externally.
This paper is meaningful in that it is the first study of Korean Maritime Poems.
