다산 정약용의 제화시 연구 (Study on Tasan Chŏng Yak-yong’s Painting Poetry)

초록

본고는 茶山 丁若鏞의 題畵詩의 현황을 확인하고 그 형식 및 내용상의 특징을 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 與猶堂全書 및 기타 자료에서 확인되는 다산의 제화시는 모두 53題 62首이며, 그중 7편은 실물 제화이다. 작품 유형은 단형의 고시와 절구·율시, 그리고 장편고시의 두 가지로 나눌 수 있다. 단형의 작품들은 대개 화폭 속의 경물을 간결하게 묘사하고 여기에 등장인물의 심중에 대한 추측이나 감상자의 의론을 덧붙이는방식으로 창작되었다. 한편 畫題의 부연이 위주가 되는 시, 개별 대상에 대한 주목을 요하는 시, 인물의 행적이나 서사를 담기 위한 시의 경우 장편고시 형식을 택하고 있다. 그 외 의론이 중심이 된 시들의 경우 이 두유형에서 벗어나는 전개방식을 보이기도 한다. 내용적 측면에서 나타나는 특징적 면모는 세 가지를 들 수 있다. 첫째는 畫論의 표출인데, 사실적 묘사에 대한 다산의 관심을 확인할 수 있다. 둘째는 畫意에 대한 주관적해석이 빈번히 나타난다는 점이다. 「題乘龜仙人行雨圖」, 「題顔師古王會圖」, 「題西湖浮田圖」 등의 작품에서는독창적 해석을 통한 화의의 확장이 이루어지고 있다. 한편 「題蛺蝶圖」, 「題柳相國漏屋持傘圖」 등은 시인의 관점에서 그림의 寓意를 읽어내고 이를 통해 세태 비판을 시도한 작품들이다. 셋째는 제화시 속에서 대상 그림의 효용을 강조하는 경향이다. 당대 고관들의 사치 풍조를 비판한 「제유상국누옥지산도」를 비롯하여 「題鄕飮 酒禮圖後」, 「金陵全圖」, 「戲作苕溪圖」 등에서 해당 그림의 사회적/개인적 효용을 드러내고 있다. 본고의 논의는 다산 시문학의 다채로운 양상을 구명하기 위해 시도된 것이다. 향후 다산 시문학의 종합적·총체적 이해에작은 부분이나마 기여할 수 있기를 바란다.

영어초록

The purpose of this paper is to check the current status of Painting Poetry 題畫詩 by Tasan 茶山 Chŏng Yak-yong 丁若鏞 and to consider its format and content characteristics. Collective Works of Yŏyudang 與猶堂全書 and other sources confirm Chŏng Yak-yong’s Painting Poetry is composed of 62 poems with 53 titles, seven of which are Painting Poetry on real objects. The types of works can be divided into two types: short-form in ancient poems or Jueju (quatrain) and Lüshi (poetry composed of eight lines of five or seven syllables) and long-form ancient poems. Short-form works were usually created in a way that concisely depicted the artifacts on the canvas and added speculation about the character’s mind or viewer’s opinion. On the other hand, poems with a focus on the elaboration of the painting’s theme, poems that require attention to individual objects, and poems intended to contain a person’s deeds or narrative took the long-form ancient poems. In the case of other poems focused on a painting’s intention, they show a way of developing that deviates from these two types. There are three distinct aspects that appear in terms of content. The first is the expression of painting’s discourse, which shows Tasan’s interest in realistic portrayals. The second is that there are frequent subjective interpretations of painting’s intension. In works such as “題乘龜仙人行雨圖 (a poem on a painting of a Taoist ascetic with miraculous powers who pours rain, riding a turtle)”, “題顔師古王會圖 (A poem on a painting of Wanghui of An Sigu)”, and “題西湖浮田圖 (A poem on a painting of futian in Sihu)”, there is an expansion of painting’s discourse through creative interpretation. “題蛺蝶圖 (A poem on a painting of Butterflies)” and “題柳相國漏屋持傘圖 (A poem on a painting of prime minister Yu holding an umbrella in a leaking house)” are works that attempted to criticize the world from the poet’s point of view through the allegorical intention of the painting. The third is the tendency to emphasize the utility of the subject of the painting in Painting Poetry. Including A, which criticized the sumptuous trends of high-ranking government officials of the time, “題柳相國漏屋持傘圖”, “題鄕飮酒 禮圖後 (A poem after a painting of a ritual of drinking)”, “金陵全圖 (A landscape painting of Kŭmnŭng)”, “戲作苕溪圖 (Draw a picture of Ch’ogye for pleasure)” reveal the social/personal utility of the paintings. The discussion in this paper was attempted to investigate the various aspects of Tasan’s poetry literature. I hope that it will be able to contribute to the comprehensive and holistic understanding of Tasan’s poetry literature in the future.
