한국 현대 노년시 연구 시론－ 노년시의 범주 및 개념을 중심으로 (A preliminary research on the old age poem of Korean modern time － Focusing on category and concept of the old age poem)

초록

이 글은 고령화 사회로 진입한 우리 사회에서 문학이 어떤 대응을 할 수 있는가라는 문제 제기로 출발하였다. 우리 사회가 고령화 사회에서 초고령화 사회로 넘어가고 있는 만큼, 100년을 넘어선 한국 시단에도 노년기를 보내면서꾸준히 좋은 작품을 발표하고 있는 원로시인들이 적지 않고, 작가의 연령층을떠나서도 텍스트 자체에 노년의 삶과 정신 또는 노인문제가 이미지나 비유, 상징, 어조 등으로 적잖이 나타나고 있기 때문에, 시가 노년에 대해 어떤 표현 으로 어떤 사유를 낳고 있는지 노년시에 대한 연구가 보다 본격적으로 진행될 필요가 있다고 생각했다. 이미 노년소설 연구는 활발하게 진행되어 다양한연구 성과를 내고 있는데, 노년시 연구는 노년시에 대한 범주 및 개념조차 제대로 규정되지 못한 채 노년기 시인의 노년의식을 밝히는 연구에 머물고 있다. 이 글은 이러한 문제점을 인식하고, 한국 현대 노년시 연구를 본격적으로진행해보고자 하는 의도에서 시론적으로 이루어졌다. 우선 노년시 텍스트 분석을 통해 노년시 연구의 필요성 및 가능성을 살펴보면서 무엇보다 노년시의범주 및 개념을 규정하는 데 이 글의 목적을 두었다.
노년시 연구에 대한 가능성을 시사했던 선행연구들은 노년기 시인이 노년기에 쓴 모든 시를 연구대상으로 노년기 시인의 노년의식을 밝혀내고 있는데, 본고는 노년기에 쓴 모든 시가 노년시가 될 수는 없다고 보며, 노년만이 노년시를 쓸 수 있는 것도 아니라고 생각한다. 노년이 아닌 시인도 얼마든지 노년에 대한 시를 쓸 수 있다. 요컨대, 노년시는 노년의 시인도, 노년이 아닌 시인도 쓸 수 있는 텍스트 중심의 개념이다. 즉, 텍스트 자체에 노년에 대한 발화가 주체와 대상의 관계 양상을 통해 구체적으로 나타나 있어야 한다. 따라서노년시는 작가층이 아닌 텍스트 층에서 개념화되어야 한다. 이에 본고는 노년시를 텍스트 층에서 ‘발화 주체가 노년인 시’와 ‘발화 대상이 노년과 관계된시’로 나누어, 각 시에서 노인 또는 노년이 어떻게 표현되고 있는지 주체의어조를 중심으로 각 범주의 특성을 살펴보았다.
그 결과 ‘발화 주체가 노년인 시’의 경우, 생산 주체와 발화 주체의 거리가가깝고, 대부분 노년기를 보내는 주체의 정서 표출을 목적으로 하고 있어 서정성이 짙었으며, 보다 다양한 측면에서 노년의 심리 및 그들의 문제 등이 직접적이며 사실적으로 발화되고 있었다. 이 경우 주체의 어조는 우울하고 자조적인 비관적 어조를 띄거나 철학적이며 긍정적인 낙관적 어조를 띄는 특징을보여주었다.
한편, ‘발화 대상이 노년과 관계된 시’의 경우, 노년이 아닌 주체는 대상으로서의 노년과 어떤 관계를 맺고, 노년의 늙음에 대한 개인적 감정이나 사유의 결과를 관조적 또는 철학적 어조로 발화하거나 노년의 삶의 지혜들을 경탄의 어조로 발화하고 있었다. 또한 노년을 둘러싼 주변인의 처우 및 노인들이 겪고 있는 현실적인 문제들을 목격하고 연민의 어조나 비판적 어조로 고령화 사회의 문제점들을 발화하기도 했다.
결국, 노년시는 시대적으로 우리 사회가 고령화되면서 본격적으로 생겨난새로운 현대시 유형으로, 텍스트 측면에서 노인이 발화 주체이거나 노인을 발화 대상으로 설정하여 주체와 노인의 관계 양상이 중점적으로 발화되면서, 우리 사회가 안고 있는 노인문제 및 노년의 의식 등이 이미지나 비유, 상징, 또는 어조 등으로 표현되고 있는 시를 말한다.
앞으로 본 연구자는 이러한 노년시의 범주 및 개념을 바탕으로, 노년시의미적 변별성을 보다 구체적으로 밝혀내고, 노년시가 늙음에 대해 또는 노년에대해 어떤 인문학적 사고를 배양하는지, 노년시가 고령화 사회의 여러 사회적문제를 어떻게 반영하는지 등을 보다 다양한 방법으로 연구해가고자 한다. 한편, 노년시 연구의 일환으로 노년시 텍스트가 목록화되면, 노년시가 고령화사회에서 노인을 위해 또는 노년을 준비하는 세대를 위해 여러 분야에서 융· 복합적으로도 활용될 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.

영어초록

This research was initiated by raising a question about how culture can react to our aging society. As our society is transforming from aging society into super－aging society, there are many senior poets who are constantly creating works in 100 year old Korean world of poetry. Apart from the age of poets, life or spirit of the old as well as problem of the old is often shown in the text in the form of image, metaphor, symbol or tone of voice so active researches on the old age poet seem to be needed. Given with the fact that various outcomes have been achieved through researches on the old age novels, the research on the old age poet is still remained in the circle of studying the consciousness of old age of senior poets rather than studying category or concept of the old age poems. This preliminary research is to study the old age poems by acknowledging the problem and main purpose of this study is to define concept and category of the old age poems while addressing necessity and possibility of research on the old age poem.
Preceding researches suggesting the possibility of research on the old age poem addressed consciousness of old age of senior poets by targeting all poems written by senior poets but this research claims that not all poems written in the old age can be old age poems and old age poems can be written by poets who are not senior. Poets who are not old can write poems about the old age. In brief, the old age poem is a text－oriented concept that can be created by poets whether they are old or not. In other words, speech about the old age needs to be shown in the relationship between the subject and the object of speech and this means the concept of old age poem needs to be established in the level text not the age. So this paper studied how the old or the old age is expressed in each poem focusing on the tone of voice of subject after categorizing poems into ‘poem of which subject of speech is the old age’ and ‘poem of which object of speech is related to the old age’ focusing on the tone of voice of subject.
As a result, regarding ‘poem of which subject of speech is the old age’, distance between the subject of production and the subject of speech is close and the poem is very emotional as its purpose is to express the emotion of subject. In addition, emotions or problems of the old are directly expressed from various viewpoints. Therefore, the tone of voice is either negative which is depressing and self－mockingly or it is positive which is philosophical and optimistic.
In the contrary, ‘poem of which object of speech is related to the old age’ shows personal emotion or result of thoughts about getting old and how the subject who is not old builds up relationship with the old ones from contemplative or philosophical view and the poem admires the wisdom of life of the old. Regarding the surrounding people, they observe realistic problems that the old ones are experiencing and show social problems of aging society from pitying or critical point of view.
As a result, old age poem refers to the poem that expresses the consciousness or problem of the old age by using image, metaphor, symbol or tone of voice as the old age which is the subject of speech turns into the main content in the relationshipwithsubject.
Researcher will study what type of liberal thinking is fostered about aging or the old age and how the old age poem reflects aging society by using various analysis methods. Furthermore, it is expected that it will be utilized in a convergent way in many different areas for the old as well as the generation preparing for the old age once texts of the old age poem are itemized.
