松溪 權應仁의 生涯와 詩世界 및 그 特徵 (Songgae Kwon, Eung-In: His life, poetry and their characteristics)

초록

조선 중기 宣祖年間에 주로 활동한 松溪 權應仁은 본래 타고난 신분적인 한계로 인하여 자신의 포부와 역량을 마음껏 펼칠 수 있는 기회를 갖지 못하고 漢吏學官이라는 微官末職으로 공직생활을 끝마쳤다. 조선 초기에 제정된 庶孽差待法禁과 庶孼錮法이란 惡法이 결국 이런 능력자들의 사회진출과 국가공동체를 위한 역량의 발휘를 원천적으로 봉쇄해버려서 조선은 더욱 크게 번창할 수 있는 여러 가지 여건을 갖추었음에도 불구하고 크게 발전하지 못하는 한계를 노출하였다.그렇지만 송계는 자신에게 주어진 신분적 한계에 좌절하지 않고 나름대로 심적 갈등을 겪으면서도 그러한 한계를 일정하게 극복, 승화시켜서 문학이라는 결과물로 만들어내었다. 송계 詩世界의 내용적 측면에서 볼 수 있는 몇몇 樣相으로 먼저 身分의 限界가 招來한 葛藤과 奇行을 들 수 있겠다. 신분적인 한계는 송계 자신의 선택이 아니라 주어진 것이므로 개인의 노력으로는 도저히 벗어날 수 없는 현실이기에 심각한 내적 갈등을 겪을 수밖에 없다. 심지어는 꿈속에서조차 이를 벗어난 세계를 구현해보려는 일종의 기행적인 모습까지 보여준다. 두 번째로 當面現實과 世態에 대한 批判의 態度를 볼 수 있다. 송계는 당대의 友道의 墮落相, 民意의 收斂機能이 마비된 정치적 장치, 牧民官의 不在와 破廉恥한 衙前들의 跋扈, 가짜가 판을 치는 사회, 무기력한 정치 현실과 안이한 현실 인식을 소유한 위정자들의 태도 등을 강하게 지적하고 비판하고 있다. 마지막으로 安分知足과 閒情達觀의 姿勢을 엿볼 수 있다. 송계는 이러한 삶을 통하여 내면적으로 일정 부분 갈등을 겪는 자기 삶을 超克 내지는 昇華시켰다 그리고 송계 詩世界의 형식적인 特徵으로 거론할 수 있는 것은 連作詩의 세계라고 하겠다. 송계는 平水韻 106개의 운자 가운데 上平聲과 下平聲을 합친 平聲韻 30개의 글자를 韻字로 사용하여 30首에 이르는 특이한 형태의 연작시를 지었다. 이런 형식의 시는 다른 사람에게서 찾아보기 어려운 특징이라고 하겠다.그 가운데 특히 평성 운자를 작품의 맨 마지막 운자로 押韻한 것이 하나의 큰 특징이라고 할 수 있겠다. 두 번째로 雜體詩의 세계를 언급할 수 있겠다. 송계는 玉蝴蝶體, 回文體, 玉連環體 혹은 藏頭體, 巫山一段雲體 등 비교적 다양한 잡체시의 시체를 사용하여 作詩한 특징을 보여주고 있다. 마지막으로 언급할 수 있는 것으로는 酬唱詩이다. 수창시는 여러 사람들이 景觀이 몹시 빼어난 장소나 宴會 등을 포함한 모임과 會合에서 年長者나 어떤 특정한 사람이 먼저 韻字를 내고 이어서 모든 사람이 그 운자를 가지고 즉석에서 시를 짓는 방식이다. 송계는 그의 문집에서 상당한 분량의 수창시를 남기고 있는데 이것은 그의 시세계의 형식적인 한 특징이라고 하겠다.

영어초록

Mainly active during the reign of Seonjo, in the middle of the Joseon Dynasty, Songgae Kwon, Eung-In, could not seize the opportunity to fully achieve his aspirations and capabilities due to his inherent limitations in social standing, with his career finally ending in one of the lowest governmental positions as a Hanlihakkwan (Chinese Language Institute Official). The law of discrimination for the concubine’s children and the law of keeping the concubine’s children from entering government service, established in the early years of the Joseon Dynasty, resulted in blocking any attempt by many capable individuals to advance in society and exercise their abilities for the nation. This limited the Joseon Dynasty’s development significantly, despite the fact that it had many positive conditions to make it flourish. However, Songgae did not succumb to the frustration with the limits imposed upon him by his inherent status. Overcoming it to some extent while experiencing emotional turmoil at the height of the absurdity, he sublimated and transformed it into literature. Some of the aspects that can be glimpsed from the content of Songgae’s poetry include, primarily, conflict and eccentricity caused by his positional limits. As his limitation in status was not his own choice but a given reality, he could not escape-no matter how hard he tried. He could not help experiencing serious internal turmoil. Even in his dreams, he shows a sort of eccentric behavior, trying to realize a world without such discrimination. Secondly, we can observe his critical attitude toward the reality and social conditions he faced. Songgae strongly pointed out and criticized the fall of the friendship of his time, the politics for the sake of politics that lacked the ability to consider public opinions, the absence of the governors and rampancy of petty officials, a society riddled with fakes, the pathetic political reality and the behavior of the politicians with a complacent awareness of reality, and so on. Lastly, we can get a glimpse of his attitudes of peaceful contentment with his place in society and philosophically view the life of idleness. Through such behavior toward life, Songgae overcame or transcendentalized his own life, which suffered from some internal conflicts. Meanwhile, we might be able to contend that serial poetry is the formal characteristic of Songgae’s world of poetry. Songgae used 30 letters of an even tone rhyme, a combination of Sangpyeongseong (high even tone) and Hapyeongseong (low even tone), among 106 Pyeongsoowoon, as rhyming words, to write a serial poetry of unique form, which includes as many as 30 poems. This type of poetry suggests a characteristic rarely used by other poets. Especially regarded as a significant characteristic of his poetry is the fact that he rhymed with an even-tone rhyming word in his final work. Moreover, the various types of his poems-free from traditional rhymes-are worth mentioning. Songgae shows a poem-composing characteristic of using relatively diverse miscellaneous poetry styles such as the Jade Butterfly style, Round Direction style, Ring-like Round Direction style, Jangdu-che and Moosanildanwoon-che. Finally, the Soochang poem is a style of composing poetry in which a senior or a certain person first suggests a rhyming word during a get-together or meeting held in places of outstanding natural beauty or banquets, followed by everyone else immediately composing poetry on the spot using rhymes. Songgae wrote a great amount of Soochang poems, which suggests that it is indeed a formal characteristic of his poetic world.
