TV드라마 속 대체역사 빙의물 연구: <철인왕후>를 중심으로 (A Study on Alternative Historical Possession Work in a TV Historical Drama: Focusing on )

초록

TV사극은 2020년에 방영 편수가 잠시 움츠러들었지만, 2021년에 8편이 방영되면서 연평균 7편 내외를 방영하던 2010년대의 수준으로 다시 복귀했다. 다만 2010년대에 발견되었던 TV사극의 특징과 다소 차이를 보이는 지점이 발견된다. 픽션사극이 대폭으로 증가했고 원작을 기반으로 한 TV사극이 매우 증가했으며 최근 3년간 TV사극의 방영에 소극적이었던 지상파 방송사의 약진이 두드러졌다.
이러한 경향을 보인 2021년의 TV사극 중에서 본고가 중점적으로 논의한 작품은 바로 <철인왕후>이다. 2021년에 방영된 TV사극 중 가장 높은 평균 시청률을 자랑했는데 여기에는 ‘대체역사 빙의물’이라는 장르가 크게 이바지했다고 여기는 까닭이다. 기존의 TV드라마에서 많이 구현되었던 ‘대체역사’와 ‘빙의’라는 두 가지의 익숙한 소재가 어떻게 절묘하게 결합해 시청자들을 유인했는지 밝히는 게 본고의 주된 목적이다.
첫째, 주인공이 역사적 인물에 빙의되어 마치 아바타처럼 그를 조종하며 더욱 적극적으로 시청자들이 바라는 결말, 즉 미래지향적인 역사를 창조했다. 둘째, 영혼이 미래에서 과거로 타임슬립 했기에 발생하는 시공간의 불일치, 남성의 영혼이 여성의 육신에 빙의했기에 빚어지는 성별의 불일치를 통해 웃음을 유발했다. 셋째, 격식과 권위가 중요한 왕비라는 신분에도 불구하고 현대인의 언행과 사고를 지녔기에 이를 과감하고 태연하게 내려놓는 모습을 보여주었다. 이를 통해 TV사극이지만 장르의 전형성에서 벗어나 시청자에게 대중 친화적인 사극으로 다가가고자 노력했다.
반면 <철인왕후>는 역사 왜곡과 같은 문제점을 발생시키며 대체역사 빙의물이 양날의 검과 같은 양면성을 지녔다는 걸 드러냈다. 따라서 앞으로의 TV사극에서 이러한 장르를 적극적으로 구현하기에 조심스러울 수도 있다. 하지만 단점을 최소화하는 노력이 작용한다면 충분히 매력적인 장치로 시청자에게 다가갈 수 있다고 기대하는 바이다.

영어초록

As to TV Historical Dramas, the number of episodes going on air decreased for a while in 2020, but as eight of the historical drama shows were broadcast in 2021, the number came back on track as highly as it used to be when seven shows more or less on average were broadcast in the 2010s. However, some differences in features are observed when compared to these TV Historical Dramas appear in the 2010s. The number of fictional historical drama shows going on air rocketed up, and as original work-based TV Historical Dramas sharply rose, the leap of the terrestrial broadcasters that had been taking a passive attitude for the recent three years has become noticeable.
Of these TV historical dramas of such tendency in the year of 2021, the work which this study has concentrated on is <Mr. Queen>. The concerned show achieved the highest viewer ratings putting the other historical drama shows appear on TV in 2021 behind, and the study believes that a genre called 'an alternative historical possession work' has been making a great contribution. The purpose of this study is mainly to prove how marvelously 'alternative history' and 'possession' the two popular materials, frequently realized on TV, had been combined with each other until they eventually drew the attention of viewers.
First, the principal was possessed by a historical figure who would operate the principal as some avatar, and that was what had helped even more aggressively to create this conclusion which the viewers would wish for, which is called a future-oriented history. Second, laughter arose by space-time disagreement which would be caused by a soul going through time slip to the past from the future and gender disagreement after a female body was possessed by a male soul. Third, despite a standing as a queen which would put formality and authority before anything, the principal daringly and indifferently puts all of them aside as being accustomed to words and actions, and thoughts of the modern times. Owing to all those features mentioned so far, even though it was a TV Historical Drama, it freed itself from typicality of the genre and tried to approach the viewers as a public-friendly historical drama show.
Meanwhile, <Mr. Queen> appeared to be double-sided as being claimed that an alternative historical possession work could be a double-edged sword causing problems such as historical distortions. Hence, it could be challenging for the TV Historical Drama business to passionately realize the concerned genre. However, this study believes that as long as the relevant business works to minimize the flaw, the concerned genre might wind up approaching viewers as an adequately attractive device.
