1960년대 김이석 역사소설 연구 -「흑하」와 「난세비화」의 초점화 전략과 서사적 특성을 중심으로 (A Study on the 1960’s novels of KimYiSeok -Focused on the characters & narrative characteristics of Heukka and NanSebihwa)

초록

본 연구는 한국 근현대 역사소설 연구에서 소외되었던 60년대 김이석 역사소설들의 전략 및 서사적 특성을 밝히고자 하였다. 서론에서는 그간 연구가 없었던 저간의 사정, 김이석 장편 역사 소설 연구의 필요성과 목적에 대해 논하였다. 2장에서는 김이석 역사소설 「난세비화」와 「흑하」에서 인물들 간의 초점화 과정을 통해 주제적 의미를 밝혀보고자 하였다. 3장에서는 2장의 초점화 전략 분석을 토대로 1960년대 역사소설로서의 서사적 특성을 폭넓게 도출하고자 하였다. 특히 민중적 이데올로기와 주체적 여성성의 실현과 서북지역 공간과 장소의 수용 및 문체적 특징을 중심으로 살펴보고 동시대 박종화 역사소설들과 비교함으로써 김이석 소설의 주제성과 현대적 문체의 특성을 증명하고자 하였다. 김이석 역사소설은 1960년대 민중 이데올로기 및 주체적 여성성, 서북지역 인물 설화 및 공간 장소 활용, 영화적 기법 시도 등 특징을 보인 역사소설로서 새로운 영역을 개척하였을 뿐 아니라, 그 영향력도 컸었다. 김이석 역사소설들은 난세의 하층민과 여성들을 주체로 내세움으로써 인간 평등과 사파현정의 정신을 보여주는데, 이는 김이석의 인간 사랑이 당시 4.19 혁명과 만남으로써 본격화된 측면이 있었음을 의미한다. 김이석은 수십 여 편의 단편소설들에서 피난 시절 소외 하층민과 여성들을 통해 연민과 포용의 글쓰기를 실천해 왔듯, 그의 장편 역사소설에서도 쫓겨 다니는 주인공들의 이야기를 통해 민중 평등의 이데올로기를 추구하고자 하였다. 특히 김이석 역사소설들 중 여성들은 동시대 인기였던 박종화의 역사소설들에 나오는 ‘요희’같은 여인들과 달리 주체적인 민중지도자로서의 면모를 보여준다.
본 연구를 통해 1950년대 그의 단편들이 추구해오고 있었던 김이석만의 인간 평등의 도덕적 휴머니즘적 경향이 1960년 4.19혁명과 조우하면서 역사소설에서 상상의 민족 공동체로 꽃피우고 있었던 것임을 추론해 볼 수 있다.

영어초록

This study aims to investigate the narrative characteristics and characters of Heukka (1960~1961) and NanSebihwa(1962) of Kimyiseok. The themes of Kimyiseok’s novels had represented in storytelling by their strategical internal focalizers(focused characters) and external focalizers, unfocused characters. And the truth of Kim’s novels hidden like a secret of ‘magical ring’, have come out so late through the several external focused characters. Therefore, the readers could have realized the truth of the event in detective thrill while reading.
A few characteristics of KimYiSeok’s novels could be explained as follows: 1) Characterictic of detective story with internal focalizer and external focalizer(word by Mieke Bal) 2) Using the traditional motifs and fable of PyeongAn region, 3) Not ending closing story against the political violence. 4) Factional story of the rebellion against feudalism and social statue discrimination with Muo-Massacre(1498) and SinYu-Repression(1801) events 5) Newspaper serial novel for mass media entertainment with popular and interesting devices. 6) The image of women fighting against political and private violence.
KimYiSeok tried to represent heroin’s role in his historical stories. The image of women in his novels comparatively is different from the 1960’s other historical novels : for example, KimYiSeok’s image of the women contrasted with the 1960’s famous historical writer PakJongWha’ Imperial 3th(JewangSamDe), A life of the girl lke witch(YohieuIlSeng), Oh, Flowing Clouds(JagoGaNeunJeoGuremA) specially different in that the wicked acts of some queen and court ladies had been distorted or exaggerated by the appropriation of women. But Kim’s heroins sometimes had been described as a leader of people. Kim’s historical novels also comprise detective device that character’s sudden changing and disguising actions happening. These characteristics of KimYiSeok’s novels succeeded to next novel: New honggildong(SinHongGilDongJeon) that means that Kim’s novels continued to tell to the readers about the importance of peoples fighting for freedom and life.
In a result, we could been arrived to acknowledge that the sprit of Kim’s novels touched from the sprit of the same age; 1960’ 4.19 revolution. KimYiSeok would have also written novels as like so early he had written humanistic short stories.
