    초록

    This study was conducted to verify the impact of beauty service education program provided to female students studying beauty services and preparing for employment on their self-esteem, self-efficacy, and interpersonal skills. The subjects of this research were randomly recruited from female students enrolled in a training center, G University, D city and these students were categorized under the experiment and the control groups consisting 32 participants, respectively. The experiment group was subject to the bi-weekly twelve sessions of beauty service education for six weeks from August 1 to September 9, 2010. Education covered service mind, human resource clinic, image VTR feedback, favorable image making, situational manners for contacts, customer approach method, handling complaining customers at beauty salons, communication skills, and telephone response skills. One session was 60 minutes long with a lecture. This was managed consistently in division of introduction, exploration, and summing up. While running the program, four participants were excluded due to missing values for the questionnaire survey and lack of hours. Finally, 30 participants in the experiment and the control groups, respectively, were subject to this analysis. The data were statistically analyzed with the application of SPSS ver 12.0 Windows. Summing up, the results of this research are as follows. First, the level of self-esteem significantly improved in the experiment group (p<0.001) after education. Second, the level of self-efficacy improved more significantly in the experiment group (p<0.001) than in the control group after education. Third, the level of interpersonal skills decreased in the control group while these significantly improved in the experiment group after education (p<0.001). In conclusion, the six-week beauty service education program for female students studying beauty services prior to employment will be able to help them to lead beauty services and adapt to jobs as independent entities as this will improve their self-esteem, self-efficacy and interpersonal skills. From the perspective of health science,too, this program will be significant in terms that it can contribute to improving mental health of female students studying beauty services. In the future, continuous research, development, and application of the methods of highly reliable service education corresponding to students' aptitudes and needs will be necessary. Additionally, scientific verification of continued efficacy will be the future task.
