한국 지식지형의 비판적 인식과 민속지식의 새 지평 (A Critical Review of Korean Knowledge Structure and a New Perspective of Folk Knowledge)

초록

외국지식에 의존하고 있는 한국 지식지형을 비판적으로 인식하는 데서 출발하여, 지식지형의지층분석 준거를 마련하고 그 준거에 따라 민속지식의 정체성과 효용 가치를 밝히는 가운데 민속지식 중심의 새 지식체계 수립을 제기하였다. 지식지형을 고급지식과 대중지식, 민속지식으로 유형화하고, 지식지형을 이루는 지층의 준거를 지식의 1) 성격, 2) 주체, 3) 국적, 4) 시대, 5) 매체,6) 공인으로 설정하여 그 위상을 분석한 뒤에, 다시 지식의 1) 생산 주체를 중심으로 2) 활동공간,3) 가치인식, 4) 존재기반, 5) 수용방식에 따라 대비함으로써, 민속지식의 존재양상과 그 가치를 상대적으로 논증했다.
그 결과 민속지식은 민중에 의한 전승지식으로서 민족지식이자 경험지식이며 일상생활의 쓰임새에 따라 전승력과 효용성을 발휘하게 되는 전통지식이자 공유지식이라는 사실을 밝혔다. 통시적으로 부침하는 지식지형의 위상을 다룸으로써 한국 지식체계의 지속과 변화를 주목했다. 시대의 변화에 따라 중국지식, 일본지식, 서구지식 등이 주류를 이루었던 것이 지식지형의 변화 양상이며, 한결같이 외래문화와 외국지식이 민족지식 우위에서 주류 구실을 한 사실이 지식지형의 지속 현상이다. 이러한 지속 현상을 극복하고 민족지식 중심의 지식지형을 이루는 것이 한국학계의과제이다.
문화되돌이 현상을 보기로 전승지식의 가치를 재해석하는 한편, 세계 수준의 민족지식을 제시하고 외국지식 적용의 오류를 비판함으로써, 지식지형을 주체적으로 설계할 수 있는 가능성과 설계해야 하는 필요성을 제기했다. 서구지식이 아니라 한국지식의 관점에서 학문주권을 자각하고민족지식을 근거로 새로운 사관과 이론을 개척해야 지식의 오리엔탈리즘을 극복하고 학문 종속주의에서 해방될 수 있다. 브리테니커와 위키피디아의 지식체계를 대조함으로써 문헌전승의 전문지식과 독점지식 못지않게 공동체 지식, 구전지식, 공유지식이 중요하다는 사실을 근거로, 민속지식중심의 새 지식체계를 구상하는 것이 한국 지식지형을 바람직하게 수립하는 길임을 해명했다.

영어초록

With a critical review of Korean knowledge structure which relies on foreign knowledge, this study prepared criteria for strata analysis of knowledge structure and according to the criteria, it discovered identity of folk knowledge and its useful values and established a new knowledge system based on folk knowledge.
Knowledge structure has been categorized in advanced knowledge, public knowledge, and folk knowledge. The criteria of strata which makes up knowledge structure has been set as 1) characteristics, 2) main agent, 3) nationality, 4) era, 5)media, 6) public recognition of knowledge. The status of knowledge has been analyzed with the criteria. Based on 1) producing agent of knowledge, the status has been compared with 2) active space, 3) value cognition, 4) presence foundation,and 5) acceptance mode to prove presence aspect and values of folk knowledge relatively.
As a result, this study finds that folk knowledge is transmitted by the public and it is ethnic knowledge and experience knowledge. Also, it is traditional knowledge and shared knowledge as it exhibits transmission and usefulness depending on its use in daily lives. This study also pays attention to continuance and changes of Korean knowledge system by exploring the status of knowledge structure diachronically. As for the changes of knowledge structure, knowledge isprimarily Chinese knowledge, Japanese knowledge and western knowledge as the times change. As for the continuance of knowledge structure, foreign culture and knowledge has always played a main role over folk knowledge. A task for Korean academia is to overcome this continuance and to establish knowledge structure based on folk knowledge.
While reinterpreting values of transmitted knowledge with culture loop phenomenon, this study raised possibilities of designing knowledge structure independently and the necessities by presenting world-class folk knowledge and criticizing errors of foreign knowledge application. It is required to understand academic rights not in a perspective of western knowledge but in a perspective of Korean knowledge and to explore a new view of history and theories based on folk knowledge in order to overcome orientalism of knowledge and to be liberated from academic dependency. By contrasting knowledge systems of Britannica and Wikipedia, this study discovered that community knowledge, orally transmitted knowledge, and shared knowledge are as important as specialized knowledge and exclusive knowledge of transmitted literature. Thus, this study argues that it is necessary to plan a new knowledge system based on folk knowledge in order to establish desirable Korean knowledge structure.
