    The aim of this study is to empirically investigate the effects of adolescents’ social religiosity on life satisfaction. The Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2012, from which 2,081 middle school students, aged 16, were chosen for this analysis. A path model, where self-esteem as adolescents’ individual characteristics mediates between environmental variables and life satisfaction, was constructed to see if those who have social religiosity like having religion or engaging in religious activities, compared to those who do not have religiosity, have any differences in the paths in which environmental variables, such as, parent intimacy, friend attachment, teacher intimacy and study adaptation, influence on life satisfaction. Non-religion group (n=1,242) showed positive effects on life satisfaction in all environmental variables, teacher intimacy was not a significant path to self-esteem. The other environmental variables, with the mediate effect of self-esteem, had significantly positive effects on life satisfaction. Religion group (n=839) showed similar results to non-religion group and parent intimacy, teacher intimacy, also, had no effect on life satisfaction. In non-engagement group (n=247), parent and teacher intimacy had no effect not only on life satisfaction but on self-esteem. Friend attachment and study adaptation had mediate effects via self-esteem. In religious activity engagement group (n=592), only parent intimacy showed no effect on life satisfaction and teacher intimacy had no effect on self-esteem. Multiple group path analysis showed that parent intimacy-to-life satisfaction path showed no significant difference between non-religion and religion group, study adaptation-to-life satisfaction path was significantly higher in religion group. Comparing religious activity engagement group and non-engagement group, parent intimacy-to-self-esteem and parent intimacy-to-life satisfaction paths were significantly higher in engagement group. It was shown that the primary variables, which have effects on adolescents’ life satisfaction and self-esteem, were friend attachment and study adaptation and it is indicated that those factors are important for their mental health. It is especially suggested that religion and religious activities have positive influences on life satisfaction, a factor of subjective well being, and self-esteem, a factor of psychological well being, which leads to the conclusion that self-esteem, mediating environmental factors, is a variable that positively influences on life satisfaction.
