    초록

    In the article I would like to analyze and evaluate Jae Sik Koh’s ethics of mission for liberation of the poor. Koh as Christian ethicist believed that it is church’s mission to make a preferable option for the poor in the polarized society and to participate in their liberation process. He has regarded it as the task of theology to make reflections on such practices of mission of the church.
    Shortly after his study at the Hankuk Theological Seminary he was engaged in the industrial mission in the Inchon area. With such field experiences in mind he asked what are the criteria of judgment on proper and correct actions of Christians. Such a question led him to a doctoral work to articulate his own strict methods of doing ethics in the reality. He compared Muelder’s ethics of the responsible society with Bonino’s ethics of liberation theology. In his methodological approach to ethical norms he wouldn’t recognize their transcendental integrity but their tentative universality which is mediated by historical particularities.
    After my analysis of ethical perspective and methods of Jae Sik Koh I have investigated some aspects of his ethics of mission: Christian participation in liberation of the poor, geopolitics of the church in the relation between church and state, use of violence in liberation movement of the poor against suppression and exploitation, ideological option of the church for socialism etc.
    As a resume I evaluate Jae Sik Koh as Christian activist and regard his Christian ethics as activist ethics. In order to regulate and shape orders and institutions, the church needs social ethics in their proper sense that would be more than an activist approach to the reality.
