초록

새로 6종의 한국사 교과서가 검인정을 통과되었다. 주지하듯이 2009년의 근현대사 교과서 파동과 여러 차례에 걸쳐 7차 교육과정을 수정하는 과정을 거친 끝에 2011년부터 고등학교에서 사용될 한국사 교과서가 출간된 것이다. 저술과 검정의 과정에서 정책이 자주 바뀌었기 때문에 많은 문제가 있을 것이라는 점은 당연한 것이지만, 그럼에도 불구하고 2011년부터 사용될 교과서이기 때문에 전체적인 내용을 검토하는 것은 매우 중요하다.

영어초록

This paper tries to examine the part of modern Korean history in 6 Korean history textbooks approved by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, which will be used in South Korean high schools next year. The share of the part dealing with modern Korean history in history books, almost 20%, is increased among the whole compared to former “Guksa(National History)” textbook (less than 5%). And another characteristic is two chapters covering the modern history are started from the international system since the end of the World War II.
However, there are a lot of problems in description as well as historiography. First of all, several crucial issues are not precisely explained and omitted; for example, the trusteeship issue in 1945~1948, Tokyo trial and so called ‘reverse course’ policy, nuclear tests by the Soviet and China, and so on. Further more, description of the Vietnam War is totally distorted from the viewpoint of traditional anti-communism.
Another problem appears from the non-connection between the international system and internal affairs in South Korea. Even though share of the part on international condition is increased, it is not easy to any relations between two. Without that, I believe that there is no reason to write international situation in Korean history textbooks.
This problems seem to be derived from the self-oriented perspective. It is difficult to find self-introspection in the textbook, rather self-admiring could be easily found. This is the main problem that causes the problems of the new Korean history textbooks with the problematic process in official approvement system of textbooks.
