광개토왕비, 집안고구려비를 통해 본 고구려의 수묘제 정비 (The Examination on the Stone Stele Associated with Tomb Guardian System of Koguryo)

초록

廣開土王碑, 集安高句麗碑, 墓上立碑는 서로 관련이 있지만 성격과 건립목적이 다른 석비들이다. 광개토왕비는 다양한 성격을 가졌지만, 수묘제에 한정해서 본다면 5세기 고구려 왕릉 守墓烟戶와 守墓制 관련 내용을 종합적으로 담고 있다. 이것은 고구려왕족의 신성성과 광개토왕의 위대한 업적을 결합, 극대화된 성스러움을 표출하면서, 長壽王의 통치를 뒷받침하기 위해 세운 미래지향적 성격의 비석이다. 그와 달리 집안비는 수묘인매매금지법 위반시 엄중 처벌할 것임을 경고하기 위해 세운 현실적 목적이 강한 행정적, 실용적 성격의 비석이다. 그리고 묘상입비는 수묘인의 차착을 막기 위해 광개토왕이 祖先王陵에 세운 비석이었다.
광개토왕은 수묘연호들이 섞갈려 왕릉관리에 문제가 발생했음을 알고, 이를 해결하기 위해 祖先王들의 왕릉에 묘상입비를 했다. 이후 수묘연호가 賣買나 轉賣되는 것을 보고 관련법을 제정했다. 그 뒤 기존 수묘인인 구민들이여러 가지 이유로 점차 약해지는 것이 또 걱정거리로 대두했다. 하지만 이문제를 해결하지 못한 상태에서 태자에게 자신의 사후 수묘인을 모두 新來韓濊로 교체할 것을 敎言으로 남기고 서거했다. 이에 따라 장수왕은 新來韓濊 220가를 차출했지만, 그들이 법칙을 모르는 것이 염려스러워 舊民 110가도 차출했다. 그리고 그 내용과 부왕의 선대왕릉 묘상입비 사실, 수묘인매매금지법 제정사실 등을 광개토왕비에 상세히 기록했다. 장수왕은 이후 오래되어 손질이 필요하게 된 묘상입비들을 수복했고, 당시 가장 큰 문제였던 수묘연호의 매매를 근절하기 위해 위반시 엄중 처벌할 것임을 경고하는 내용을담은 집안비를 세웠다.

영어초록

A stele erected on a Koguryo royal tomb 墓上立碑, the Stele of KingKwanggaeto 廣開土王碑, and the Koguryo Stele from Ji’an 集安高句麗碑are related to one another with different characteristics andestablishment purposes. A stele standing on a koguryo royal tomb wasbuilt by King Kwanggaeto at the royal tombs of the ancestor kings inorder to prevent an error in the tomb guardian households sumyoinyonho 守墓人烟戶. The Stele of King Kwanggaeto recorded diversecontents, but if one narrows down to the part concerning the rule ofguardian households, it synthetically contains the rules about tombguardian households 守墓烟戶 and the tomb guard system 守墓制 ofKoguryo royal tomb in the 5th century. It expresses the maximizedsanctity combining the divine nature of Koguryo royal family and thegreat accomplishment of King Kwanggaeto. In addition, it is a kind offuture-oriented stele as it was built to support the rule of KingChangsu.
On the other hand, the Stele of Koguryo in Ji’an mainly deals withthe buying and selling of royal tomb guardian households. It has astrongly practical purpose foran administrative feature in that it emphasized the punishment of the violation against a law.
King Kwanggaeto built a stele on the royal tombs of the previouskings upon that he found out the problem regarding the managementof a royal tomb due to the confusion of guardian households. Then,he enacted related laws when he observed the trade and monopoly ofthe guardian households. Afterwards, because of several reasons, theexisting guardian households(gumin) became weakened, whichbrought up another problems. However, he died before he resolvedthis problem and asked the Crown Prince to change tomb guardiansto newly coming ones (hanye). Accordingly, King Changsu recruited220 households of newly coming hanye, and again recruited 110households of old guardian households as he worried about that thenew guardians were not aware of the system. He recorded the abovementioned process, the erection of a stele on the tombs of the previouskings by his predecessor, and the enactment of the prohibition law ofthe trade of guardian households in details on the Stele of KingKwanggaeto. Later, King Changsu repaired the stele on the royaltombs which were worn out, and by this time, he constructed the Steleof Ji’an to warn of the severe punishment in case of the violation soas to exterminate the buying and selling of the tomb guardianhouseholds.
