외상적 만남으로서의 반복의 역사성: 2016년 촛불집회와 태극기 집회 (Repetitive Historicity as a Traumatic Encounter: Candlelight Vigil and Taegeukgi Rally in 2016)

초록

본 연구는 2016년도 촛불집회와 태극기 집회를 우리 사회의 증상으로 파악하고, 증상 너머에 있는 원인으로 거슬러 올라가 사회적 억압과 외상을 규명하려고 했다. 그리고 사회적 공연으로서 집회의 정신분석학적 기제와 집회주체들의 정치적 태도와 욕망을 분석했다. 2016년 박근혜 대통령 탄핵과 관련된 촛불집회와 태극기 집회의 뿌리는 정치적 정당성을 추구한 ‘87체제’와 경제적 수행성을 추구한‘97체제’로 거슬러 올라간다. 정치적 정당성은 경제적 수행성에 억압된 것이자 한편으로 87, 97 두 체제와 그 안에 내재된 문제점들은 2016년 박근혜 정권 탄핵시위인‘촛불집회’와 이에 대한 대응적인 ‘태극기 집회’로 회귀한 것이라 볼 수 있다. 일차적으로 볼 때 촛불집회가 박근혜 대통령 탄핵 시위를 통해 정치적 정당성을 다시 표면으로 끌어냈다면, 태극기 집회는 다분히 보수적인 경제적 수행성 측면에 있는 것처럼 보였다.‘태극기 집회’는 타자의 결여를 물신, 즉‘애국’을 표명하는 태극기로 메우려는 도착증적 태도를 드러냈다. 그리고 태극기 집회에서 박근혜 대통령은 집단의 사회적 연결, 통일체를 창조하는‘소파등받이 점’에 해당한다. 박근혜 대통령이 탄핵된 이후 우파 진영을 이끌 마땅한 지도자가 부재했던 이유는 소파등받이점의 해체로 인해 효과적인 우파 결집이 어렵기 때문인 것으로 볼 수 있다. 이에 비해 촛불집회 참가자들은 광장에서 각종 시위를 통해 주인을 몰아붙이고 논박하려한다는 점에서 히스테리적 태도를 보인다. 이 두 시위집단은 사회적 공연을 통해 타자의 응시를 위한 스펙터클을 조직한 셈이다. 두 시위는 ‘87체제’와 ‘97체제’의 반복적인 사회적 공연으로 독해할 수 있는데 이는 직선적인 역사적 흐름의 현상이 아니라 일종의 외상적 만남으로서의 반복에 의한 것이라 볼 수 있다.

영어초록

Understanding the Candlelight Vigil and Taegeukgi Rally in 2016 as a symptom of our society, this study aims to examine the social repression and trauma in the process of seeking for the causes beyond the symptom. And this study analyzes the psychoanalytical mechanism of rally as a social performance, and the political attitude and desire of subjects of rally. The roots of Candlelight Vigil and Taegeukgi Rally related to the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye in 2016 could be found in the ‘87 system’ that pursued the political correctness and the ‘97 system’ that pursued the economic performance. The political correctness is something repressed by economic performance. Meanwhile, those two 87 system and 97 system, and problems inherent in them probably returned to the ‘Candlelight Vigil’ which was a protest for the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye, and its reactive ‘Taegeukgi Rally’ in 2016. In the primary aspect, the Candlelight Vigil raised up the political correctness to the surface again through the protest for the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye while the Taegeukgi Rally quite looked like showing the conservative economic performance. The ‘Taegeukgi Rally’ revealed the perverted attitude to fill the lack of others with fetish, that was Taegeukgi expressing ‘patriotism’. And in the Taegeukgi Rally, the President Park Geun-hye is the ‘quilting point’ that creates a unified body and social connection within the group. After the President Park Geun-hye was impeached, there were no proper leaders to lead the right-wing camp because it was difficult to effectively gather the right wing due to the dissolution of the quilting point. In contrast, the participants in the Candlelight Vigil show the hysterical attitude in the aspect of refuting and driving out the master through all sorts of protests. Those two groups organized a spectacle for other’s gaze through social performance. Those two protests could be understood as repetitive social performance of the ‘87 system’ and ‘97 system’, which might be caused by repetition as a kind of traumatic encounter, rather than a linear phenomenon of historical flow.
