불공정 피로사회, 비상식 투명사회의 폭력구조 - <오징어 게임>, <지옥>론- (The Structure of Violence in an Unfair Society of Fatigue and a Transparent Society without Sense - , Theory -)

초록

팬데믹을 통과하면서 OTT 시리즈물에 대한 수용문화는 질적․ 양적으로 비약적인 변화를 거듭하고 있다. <오징어 게임>과 <지옥>은 2021년 가장 높은 주목을받은 넷플릭스 오리지널 시리즈로 낙오와 배제의 메커니즘이 작동하고 있는 한국사회의 절망적 현실을 묘사한다. 본고는 그들 작품 안에 가시화된 공동체의 위기가‘공정’, ‘상식’, ‘정의’에 관한 해석적 입장을 반영하고 있다는 사실에 주목한다.
먼저 <오징어 게임>의 여섯 가지 놀이는 ‘죽음’과 ‘죽임’ 사이에 존재하는 시스템을 성찰하게 한다. 과잉활동을 낳는 경쟁 구조 안에 존재하는 시스템의 폭력, 시스템 내에 존재하는 폭력의 실체를 확인할 수 있다. 경쟁의 구조를 거시적으로 확장해서 보면 ‘지배없는 착취’를 보편화시키는 신자유주의 사회의 연결망까지 확인할수 있다. 결과적으로 <오징어 게임>은 낙오와 배제를 경험한 성과주체들이 공정하다고 믿어지는 경쟁 시스템에 스스로 갇히면서 벌어지는 비극을 다룬다. <오징어게임>은 자기 자신을 착취하면서 그와 동시에 타인을 착취하는 피로사회의 문제성을 고발한다.
<지옥>은 개인에 대한 집단의 비상식적 폭력이 정당화되는 과정을 극단적으로전시한다. 천사의 고지와 지옥의 사자들이 행하는 시연은 신에 대한 믿음에 기반한공포정치를 가능케 한다. 신의 인간을 향한 폭력의 문제가 의심되지 않음으로써, 인간의 인간에 대한 낙인 과정의 폭력성도 쟁점화되지 않는다. 해석권력으로서 새진리회와 대중여론을 호도하는 화살촉은 피로사회가 투명사회로 나아가는 과정을보여준다. 대중의 맹목적 믿음 위에서 권력을 쥔 그들의 부족 정치는, <지옥>이 고발하고 있는 사회적 비상식을 선명하게 환기시킨다.
두 작품의 서사는 각기 구별되는 방식과 경로로 다른 성격의 사회 정의를 겨냥한다. 아직 핵심적인 사안에 대한 의구심이 해소되지 않았고, 갈등 해결의 실마리도제시되지 않았다. 그래서 시즌 2는 공정, 상식, 정의에 관한 입장이 더 구체화 될 것이다.

영어초록

As the pandemic passes, the culture of accepting OTT series is rapidly expanding both qualitatively and quantitatively. <Squid Game> and <Hell> are the Netflix original series that received the most attention in 2021, depicting the desperate reality of Korean society in which the mechanism of failure and exclusion is at work. This paper pays attention to the fact that the crisis of the community visualized in their works reflects the interpretive stance on ‘fairness’, ‘common sense’ and ‘justice’.
First, the six games of <Squid Game> make you reflect on the system that exists between ‘death’ and ‘killing’. The reality of violence in the system and violence existing in the system can be identified within the structure of competition that results in excessive actions.
If we look at the macroscopic expansion of the structure of competition, we can even see the network of neoliberal society that universalizes ‘exploitation without domination’.
As a result, <Squid Game> deals with the tragedy that occurs when performance subjects who have experienced setbacks and exclusion are trapped in a competitive system that is believed to be fair. <Squid Game> charges the problem of fatigue society that exploits oneself and at the same time exploits others.
<Hell> displays the process of justifying the group’s irrational violence against the individual in an extreme way. The angel’s notice and demonstrations by the lions of hell enable fear politics based on faith in God. As the problem of God’s violence against humans is not questioned, the violence of the human stigma process against humans is not brought into issue. The arrowhead that mislead the new truth society and public opinion as the power of interpretation shows the process of fatigue society moving toward a transparent society.
Their tribal politics, which came to power based on the blind faith of the masses, vividly evoke the social absurdity that <Hell> is accusing.
The narratives of the two works aim at different types of social justice in distinct ways and paths. Doubts on key issues have not yet been resolved, and no clue has been presented to resolve the conflict. So in season 2, the issues of fairness, common sense, and justice will be further embodied.
