탈북자의 고통과 그 치유적 가능성- 탈북 작가가 쓴 소설을 중심으로 (The Suffering and its Therapeutic Potential of North Korean Defectors - Mainly the Novel Written by North Korean Defectors)

초록

본고는 탈북작가가 쓴 김유경의 『청춘연가』를 대상으로 탈북여성이 탈북과정이나 정착과정에서 경험한 상실감을 어떠한 방식으로 치유해 나가는지를 살펴보고자 한다. 우선, 탈북여성이 중국을 경유하는 과정에서 겪은 신체적·정신적 트라우마를 언어상실과 부정, 대체자극에의 몰두로 나누어 보았다. 선화는 윤간이라는 신체적 학대를 경험한 후 가족과 다름없는 동료 탈북자들에게도 그 사실을 함구하게 되고, 복녀는 중국 남편의 자식인 딸 청이에게서 아버지의 국적을 부정한다. 또한 중국에서 노래방으로 팔려 다닌 경옥은 신체적 상실감을 돈으로 보상받으려 한다. 그럼에도 불구하고 선화는 치욕스러운 과거를 토해내면서 잃어버린 언어를 재생하고, 복녀는 딸에게 아버지의 존재를 비밀로 만드는 것은 자신의 삶에 대한 부끄러움보다 종속당하지 않은 삶을 원했던 북한 여성 특유의 주체성을 획득한다. 경옥은 다소 비약적인 발전이기는 하지만 선화의 죽음이 계기가 되면서 영원한 것이 없다는 각성을 하게 된다. 두 번째, 남한 정착과정에서 경제적 차이로 말미암은 사회적 낙인을 치유해가는 가능성을 살펴보았다. 기존의 탈북서사와는 달리 『청춘연가』의 특색은 탈북자 대 남한의 차이뿐만 아니라 탈북자 내 존재하는 차이를 다루고 있다는 점이다. 미선과 경옥이 북한에서부터 다른 사회적 기반을 보여주는데 이는 이후 경옥이 경제력에 집착하는 동력으로 작동한다. 또한 탈북자가 남한사회에서 겪는 결혼이라는 제도적 결합과 근로의 방식에서 확연히 드러나는데 이는 육체노동의 참 가치를 몸소 실천하고, 체험에서 오는 생동감으로 경제적 차이를 극복하려는 복녀와 선화를 통해 마이너리티로 적극 호명되면서 한국사회의 타자로 자리 매김하던 기존 탈북소설들과 차별화한다. 『청춘연가』는 탈북 작가의 소설에서 중국을 비롯한 해외 체류 시기를 심도있게 다루는 유일한 작품이면서, 나의 고통과 타인의 고통이 연결되는 지점에서 고통을 치유하는 자아 또한 회복하고, 긍정적이고 건강한 탈북여성의 남한 정착 기록으로 평가받을 수 있다.

영어초록

This paper has a dash at searching how did North Korean female defectors treat their sense of loss which had experienced at escaping from North Korea and settling down in South Korea through the medium of 『Love Song of the young』 written by Kim, Yu-gyong, who is a North Korean defector.
First of all, I divided the physical and mental trauma which had been gained by North Korean female defectors at the process that goes through the China into loss of language, denial and immersing to alternative stimulus.
After having been gang raped, Sunhwa didn’t want to confess that to her fellow defectors even though they were definitely like her family and Bok-nyeo got married to a chinese but she stick ed Chung, her daugnter, to deny the nationality of her father. And Gyoug-ok, who having been human trafficed to karaoke in china, wanted to be compensated her sense of loss with money. Sunhwa recovered her own language through showing the disgrace of the past.
Bok-nyeo didn’t tell the presence of husband to her daughter, because she was a North Korean woman who had a independent will and didn’t want to be subordinate to others rather than ashamed of her life. And Gyoug-ok rapidly realized nothing was eternal through the death of Sunhwa.
The next thing, this paper had inquired into the posssibilities that healing the social stigma result from economic differences while North Korean female defectors settled down in South Korea. It is the emphasis of 『Love Song of the young』 that had dealed with different form of life amang North Korean female defectors and that is why this book differs from other novels which had be the same subject matter.
Gyoug-ok obsessed with economic power because there were different social bases between Misun and Gyoug-ok. In addition, the economic distress and culture shock which had been experienced by North Korean defectors, differ sharply from marriage and working condition. it had been called minority by Bok-nyeo and Sunhwa, who practiced labor value personally and tried to overcome economic differences with first-hand experience. it differed from previous novels, that described North Korean defectors as strangers in South Korea.
『Love Song of the young』 is the only work dealed with living abroad time including China among novels written by North Korean defectors, in this novel, an ego, which was recovered from the point of connection between my pain and others, and it also can be evaluated as an record of settlement by North Korean female defectors who had positive and healthy mind.
