고대 흑해 북부지역 출토 파란색 점문 유리잔과 로만 글라스 문화의 이동 (Roman Glass Culture and Blue Dots Glass Cup excavated in the Ancient Nothern Black Sea Region)

초록

기원전 1세기부터 기원후 4세기까지 로마제국의 지배를 받았던 고대 흑해 북부지역에서는 로만 글라스 문화의 영향을 받은 유리기, 유리구슬 등 여러 종류의 유리가 다수 발견되었다. 특히 로마군대의 주둔지이자 중요한 요새였던 카락스(Charax)에서 출토된 2점의 파란색 점문 유리잔과 케르소네소스(Chersonesos)에서 출토된 다량의 파란색 점문 유리잔은 신라고분인 금령총과 가야 다라국(多羅國)의 지배층 무덤인 합천 옥전 M1호분에서도 출토되어 로만 글라스 문화의 이동과 교류에 대한 실마리를 제공하였다. 그 외에도 독일 쾰른, 이탈리아 키에티에서 출토된 여러 점문 유리잔을 직접 관찰하고 함께 비교분석하였다. 독일 쾰른지역에서는 U자형과 V자형의 유리잔에 다양한 색상의 점문을 부착해 장식성을 더욱 높였다. 상하 2열로 나누어 같은 문양을 반복적으로 표현한 장식패턴은 카락스와 독일 쾰른, 삼국시대 고분에서 모두 확인된 특징이다. 형태적 특징과 문양 장식기법이 유사하다는 점에서 이들이 모두 연관성이 있음을 알 수 있다. 특히 아직 학계에서는 보고된 바가 없는 이탈리아 바사렐라-카지노 베자니(Vassarella-Casino Vezzani) 빌라 유적 출토 파란색 점문 유리잔은 외반한 구연부에 U자형 기형, 평저형 저부를 가져 형태적인 특징이 삼국시대 고분 출토품들과 굉장히 유사하였다. 앞서 살펴본 유물들을 직접 관찰하여 비교분석해본 결과, 파란색 점문 유리잔이 로만 글라스에 속함을 명확히 확인할 수 있었다. 파란색점문 유리잔의 생산지에 대한 논란이 많으나, 이는 다양한 관점에서의 해석이 가능한 상황이라 차후 심도 있는 연구를 진행해보고자 한다. 완제품 혹은 원료의 수입, 제작기술의 유입 등 여러 관점이 있지만, 생산지의 문제를 넘어 이들 모두 문화 교류의 상징임으로 파란색 점문 유리잔은 로만 글라스 문화와 실크로드사의 복원을 위해 중요한 역할을 하는 연구대상이다.

영어초록

In the northern part of the ancient Black Sea Region, which was ruled by the Roman Empire from the 1st century BC to the 4th century AD, a number of types of glass artefacts were found, including glassware and glass beads, these artefacts are influenced by Roman glass culture.In particular, two blue dot glass vessels discovered in Charax, a Roman army garrison and important fortress, and a large amount of blue dot glass vessels unearthed from Chersonesos were also excavated from Geumryeongchong, an ancient tomb of the Silla Dynasty, and Hapcheon Okjeon M1, a tomb of the ruling class of Gaya Dara-guk, thus providing clues for the routes and exchanges of the Roman glass culture. In addition, several dotted glasses excavated from Cologne, Germany, and Chieti, Italy were directly observed, compared, and analyzed together. In Cologne, Germany, U-shaped and V-shaped glasses were embellished with various colored dots by using high manufacturing technology to further enhance their decorative properties. The characteristics of decorative patterns, which are divided into two upper and lower rows decorated with the same pattern, were identified in both Carax, Cologne, and the Three Kingdoms. The similarity in morphological characteristics and decorative pattern techniques suggests that they are all related. The blue dot glass vessel of Chieti excavated from the ruins of the Vasarella-Casino Vezzani villa in Italy, which has not yet been reported in academia, is U-shaped and has a flat bottom on the outer rim, its morphological characteristics are very similar to those of the tombs of the Three Kingdoms period. As a result of direct observation and comparative analysis of the artefacts discussed earlier, I clearly confirmed that the blue dot glass vessels belong to Roman Glass. There is a lot of controversy over the production site of the blue dot glass cups, which can be interpreted from various perspectives, so I intend to conduct an in-depth research in the future. There are many theories, such as the import of finished products or raw materials and the introduction of manufacturing technology, but beyond the problem of the production site, all of them are symbols of cultural exchange, therefore the blue dot glass cups are a subject of research that plays an important role in revealing Roman glass culture and silk road history.
