이주공간의 변화에 따른 탈북여성의 모성갈등 양상과 극복과정 (A Study on Conflict and Reconstruction of Motherhood as Women defectors from North Korea)

초록

이 연구는 탈북여성의 이주 및 정착과정에서의 모성경험의 변화를 구체적으로 드러내기 위하여 진행되었다. 탈북여성은 이주과정에서 여러 나라를 거쳐 많은 어려운경험을 하게 되고 그녀들의 모성경험의 변화를 분석하는 것은 여성으로서의 삶을깊이 이해할 수 있는 중요한 계기가 될 수 있다. 이에 연구자는 탈북여성들의 북한-중국 및 제3국- 한국으로 이어지는 이주과정에서의 출산과 양육경험인 모성경험을중심으로 그녀들의 갈등과 심리적인 변화를 분석하였다. 북한과 중국, 한국에서의어머니로서의 삶을 생애사적으로 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다.
북한에서는 경제난과 식량난으로 아이를 낳고 기르는 어머니 역할에 많은 어려움이 있다. 어머니로서 아이를 돌보는 일 뿐 아니라 대부분의 시간을 생계를 위한 일을하다 보니 아이를 잘 키우는 일에 관심을 두기 보다는 그저 굶기지 않고 먹이는 것이 어머니의 역할일 뿐이었다. 중국 및 제3국에서는 신변이 안전하지 못한 상황에서아이와 자신의 생존을 보장할 수 없다. 이에 면접자들은 아이와 헤어져 있어 어머니역할을 하지 못하기도 하고 한국으로 오는 과정에서 아이와 자신의 생존을 사이에두고 갈등을 하기도 한다. 누가 먼저 살아남는가를 결정함에 있어 스스로 비정한 어머니라고 자책하는 등 아이에 대한 모성을 위협받기도 한다. 한국입국 이후 그녀들은 북한과는 너무도 다른 자녀의 양육방식에 혼란스러워 하며 스스로를 쓸모없는엄마라고 여기며 절망감에 빠지기도 하고 남북한의 자녀양육 방식에 각각 장단점을비교하며 자녀양육과 어머니 역할을 수행한다. 그러나 대체로 면접자들은 남한사정에 맞게 자녀를 키우려고 많은 노력을 한다. 그 노력들은 전문적인 공부, 북한 엄마라는 티가 나지 않게 사투리 고치기, 자녀의 학교에서 자원봉사를 하는 일 등이다.
북한과 중국 및 제3국을 거쳐 한국이라는 너무나 다른 환경에서 아이를 낳고 기르는 어머니로서의 경험은 그녀들로 하여금 스스로 자신과 아이와의 관계를 돌이켜보고 어머니로서 자신의 인생을 성찰하게 한다. 이러한 성찰과정은 자녀와의 관계를통하여 면접자들 자신이 한 인간으로서 더욱 강해지고 성장했음을 자각하게 하는 것이다.

영어초록

This study focus on expose that women defectors of North Korea changeof experiences about motherhood in the process of migration and settlement inSouth Korea. Women defectors of North Korea has been difficult experience inmany countries that in the migration process. And, to analyzing the changes inthe experience of motherhood is a deep understanding of life as a woman. Forsuch purpose, this study has consider her conflict and change in psychologicalprocess analysis on experience of the birth and rearing in the North Korean,China and South Korea. In the three countries, the life of the mother in privatelife as a result of analysis is as follows:In North Korea, the poverty situation mother of the child is to be moredifficult role. As a mother, as well as the care of the child most of the time towork for a living. And not to starved, just feeding is only the role of motherchild to rather than care and nature of child well.
China and third countries in the personal situation is unsafe for kids andcan not guarantee their own survival. The interviewer does not have a motherrole because of run away and hide with her baby. And they has conflictsbetween safe of child and their own survival in the process of coming to SouthKorea. Therefore they called themselves blame the heartless mother andthreatened the mother's rightThey are confused because that it's different the way of parentingcompared to the North Korea. And they regard themselves a useless mother and fall into despair. On the other hand, they serve as the mother and child rearing,in North and South Korea of the child-rearing methods, comparing the pros andcons of each. However, the interviewer usually raise their children according toSouth Korea due to a lot of effort into trying. The efforts include specialstudies for education of children, do not use North Korean dialect, volunteer attheir child's school day and so on.
Interviewees are reflect their life that their experience as a mother,relationship of mother and a child, through very different environment in NorthKorea and China, and Korea. This reflection process is to let the interviewerwho has matured as a human being to realize the stronger.
